The next day at school, the first thing I noticed on entering the school grounds was Brandon and Daisy playing tongue hockey.
"That is why I don't come to school on time. It is like Pornville up here." I told Grace.
She had stayed over last night so this morning she had dragged me out of bed at like 2 in the morning. Okay, maybe not two but that is what my poor eyes were feeling right now.
"Ignore them. They are not worth our time." She said, pulling me towards the school.
Entering Literature class, I noticed Michael in his usual spot but this time instead of glaring like the previous day, he just raised his brows. As we passed his table, he said, "So early? Be still my punctual heart."
I just blew him a raspberry. He shook his head exasperatedly but I noticed a hint of a smile too. He was wearing a red checkered shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a faded jeans. He also had one of those big dial watches which on closer inspection is determined as an expensive one.
Mr. Daves entered the class and opened his book to continue his rendition of the Love Sonnets by Shakespeare. But before he could do so, Kavita, one of the Juniors entered the classroom and whispered something to him. He looked at the class and said, "Members Mr. Victor and Miss Gupta have been informed to attend a session of the Einstein Club at two this afternoon."
Since Michael was sitting on the first row, he was in my peripheral vision as Mr. Daves was talking. The moment he heard I was a member of the Einstein Club, he sat straighter and turned around to look at me with shocked eyes. I just grinned smugly at him.
Einstein Club was a club that had been introduced in our school a few decades ago. The members of the club would keep an eye on all the students since their freshman year to see if they held any promise. Once a certain student caught their eye, they followed his/her actions for the next two years. Every year, one student was selected from the Junior and Senior class each to be added as members. Being a member of this club was like being in Mensa. This club helped you prep for your college applications and interview. Sometimes professors from Ivy League colleges came to give them tips. The club had held a ninety-five percent rate of being selected to the Ivy Leagues since 2004. I had been selected in my Junior year. The selection date for this year was close.
In short, it was everything a guy like Michael could ever dream of. As if the guy hadn't disliked me enough already.

"There is a whole range of colors in the prom section at Haley's but the one color I want.Every time I ask them if they have a dress of the color of celeste they give me a turquoise dress. I am telling you, the whole thing is a nightmare."
This had been my whole morning. But wait, the worst is yet to come.
I was sitting in the cafeteria, munching on a sandwich and listening to Grace rant when I felt a shadow fall on me. Damn Déjà Vu.
I looked up to see Daisy smirking at me, "Well, co-ordinateRebel doesn't need to worry about dress colors anymore, does she? She can wear anything she wants. It is not as if there will be anyone to see her."
Before I could come up with a calm retort, I felt somebody sit beside me. I was surprised to see Michael placing a plate of salad and sitting with me.
"We need to talk." Michael began.
"Oh you two, we are eating. You can coordinate your colors later."
Michael and I snapped our neck to stare at Grace as if she had just said Mr Daves had come out as transgender.
Grace stared at me,pointedly. "You know, for the Prom Dance?" she said.
I sneaked a look at Daisy. She was staring at Michael with a shocked look as she realised what was going on.
"Wait, you found a date to the Prom Dance already? You are going with Him?" she said, staring at Micheal.
"What? Lady are you---Ow!" Michael jumped as I kicked him in his shins.
"Yes, I found a date already. You didn't think that chunk of mountain you are going out with is that hard to replace did you?"
Daisy looked at me furiously and without a word walked angrily towards her table.
"What the hell was that?" Michael snapped.
"Nothing. Just saving face." Grace smiled graciously at him.
"Really? I came her for suggestion and somehow ended up with a date. Please explain to me how that happened."
"It was spur of the moment okay? Now stop shrieking like a girl and tell me what it is about."
He just stared at me for a moment and then deciding to let go of that subject for the time-being said,
"You are a member of the Einsten Club?"
"Yeah, since I was a Junior."
"Well, I was thinking of submitting an application to be considered myself and just wondered how it works."
"Well, you have to work hard and win a lot of competitions to bring yourself to their attention. Only then can you be considered by them. Being selected is a whole other thing entirely."
Michael drooped beside me. "It sounds hard. And I am new here. I am sure there are other students they have noticed over the years who have more chances of being selected."
"Not if Rebel helps you." Grace chimed in.
"What?" Both Michael and I said.
"Its the perfect plan. You help Michael with his Club and Michael will be your date to the Prom Dance."
"Nope." came Michael's response. He must have noticed Grace looking offended because he explained.
"I don't have a problem going with Rebel. Its just that I am not thinking of going at all. I am not a big fan of these occasions. So, my answer has to be no."
"Really? You are telling me that you are unwilling to sacrifice one night of your life in exchange for getting into the most prestigious club of our school? Is that what you are saying?" Grace asked him with her brows raised, giving him the Headmistress Experience
That brought him up short.
"I guess, that makes sense?" Michael said, looking at me.
I sighed as I realised that apparently now I had a date AND a student.
"Fine. Its a deal."
"Yes!!!!!!! Now I think its time you guys do have a discussion to co-ordinate your dress colors."
My eyes fell on Daisy and I noticed that she was looking at us with a contemplative stare. Her look promised retribution. Well, bring it on, bitch.

The rest of the day went as per usual except that I noticed that Daisy was suddenly paying extra attention to Michael. She smiled at him and waved hi at him ever chance she got. Grace dragged both of us to Haley's, a shop that catered to all kinds of customers, high school children being one of them. According to Grace, she wanted to seal this deal as quickly as possible since she was sure that Michael or I would come up with ways to get out of it. She wasn't wrong there.
As fate would have it, we ran into Daisy. She was wearing a blood red gown with a cleavage so deep that it practically reached her navel. And it was backless. Sheesh.Brandon was standing there, looking sheepish as he noticed us.
The moment she saw us, she approached Michael flirtatiously and said, "Here's a guy i can take suggestions from. Michael, what do you think? Will this dress look too clingy on me. Brandon tells me its too inappropriate. What do you think? Is it sexy?"
Brandon looked angry . I just rolled my eyes. He knew what he was getting into when he decided to take her to prom.
Michael just looked at her with expressionless eyes and said, "I think you should listen to your boyfriend. He is right. That dress is on the verge of bursting and trust me, nobody wants to see that happen."
From behind me I heard Grace snort as she tried to contain her laughter.
Daisy looked shocked at his insult but recovered pretty quickly. She simpered prettily and said,
"Brandon is not my boyfriend. We are just going to the Prom Dance together. He just asked me out since he couldn't stand his previous date. Anything to get away from her." she sneered looking at me.
"Well thats true, he did decide to go out with you. That alone proves how desperate he was. And as for him leaving his previous date, I want to thank him for that since otherwise I wouldn't ever have gotten the chance to ask her to the Prom myself."
I looked at Michael with wide eyes as I realized that he had simultaneously insulted her and complimented me. I heard Grace sigh from behind me.
Daisy flushed at his words. She huffed and turning around, marched furiously towards the dressing room.
"Wow, Michael that was awesome. I didn't know that calm exterior hid such a smart mouth. I love it." Grace said, excitedly. She headed towards the dresses to find one for me.
"Thanks for the support." I said, quietly to him.
"Yeah well, nobody should be insulted like that. I hate bullies."
"You do know I am a bully too right?" I said, grinning.
"No you are not. You bully the bully themselves. That is good actually. I respect that."
"Huh. Two compliments in five minutes? Quick, get me an ambulance, my heart is giving out."
Michael just rolled his eyes and muttered something like 'Drama Queen'. I didn't care. My heart was racing and my hands were sweaty. I was sure that was just from the excitement of seeing Daisy insulted. Not because for the first time in my life a guy had called me 'great'. Nope. It was just the excitement.
"Hey guys, the staff lady just told me that new arrivals are coming tomorrow. Do you wanna come back then and check it out? There might be better clothes then."
"YES!!!!" Both Michael and I screamed. We looked at each and started laughing and if I am not wrong, I even noticed a hint of a blush.
After Michael had gone his separate way, Grace and I headed to my house.
"Hey Rebel, was it just me or was Daisy being extra flirty towards Michael? It looks suspiciously like she changed her view of him after you told her you both were going to the prom together."
"Its not you. Everyone present there noticed it. Brandon especially"
"My question is why? What is her motive?" Grace asked.
It wasn't that hard to figure out really. The bitch was trying to steal Michael. I had suspected that Brandon asking her to the Prom wasn't exactly a coincidence. Now I realised, I was right .It had never been about him. It had been about me. She had wanted to make a fool of me by stealing my date. But she had never suspected that I would get another date so fast myself.
And now, she had decided to play her wiles on Michael too? Well she had another thing coming if she thought she would succeed.

The idea to embarrass Daisy came when I found Michael's history book in my bag that afternoon after I came home. But the only problem in my plan was Michael. Getting that goody-two-shoes to agree to it would be hard.
I took his book and hightailed to Michael's house on my skateboard. Michael's house was the ultimate house made all of glass just like Edward's house in Twilight. Was it just me or was this situation getting more like Twilight by the minute?
I knocked at the door and imagined Michael's face when he opened it. The poor guy might think that I DID come to trash his house. I grinned at the thought.
My trail of thought came to a halt when the door opened and the most ridiculously gorgeous guy came out.
Oh crap.
