CHARMING. 08.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT & WIZARDRY

1942⌛️

I GAZED at the charming young man who had managed to fool almost all of Hogwarts. Hesitantly I placed my dainty hand in his larger one. I almost expected for his hand to be cold because of all the nasty things that I've heard about him.

However, his hand was surprisingly much warmer than normal. His hand wrapped around my own in a gentle hand shake.

I couldn't help the sparks that shot through my body once we touched, as well as the feeling of being complete. It was euphoria at its finest and it left me with an odd feeling.

Tom did well at hiding his emotions, so well that I wouldn't have been able to catch it; had I not been able to feel emotions.

I've never really been one for using the angelic empathy abilities, but with Tom's talent of lying I'll definitely need to be using that to my advantage.

Confusion. Alot of it.

Tom Riddle was confused giving myself the suspicions that he was feeling the same as I. Though despite all that confusion he kept that damn charming facade on his face.

I was so busy gazing into those blue eyes, and drinking in all his emotions that I didn't realize how long we had been holding each other's hand. Someone cleared their throat gaining both myself and Tom's attention.

It seemed as though Tom too didn't realize that we had been standing their just holding each other's hand. As if he was electrocuted Tom quickly snatched his hand away from me.

I swallowed looking anywhere, but Tom's eyes. I noticed that everyone; excluding Penelope who was wearing a knowing smirk on her face, was gaping at Tom. Tom noticed this too and immediately sent a death glare in all their directions.

Everyone quickly looked away - fearful expressions plastered on their faces. Slowly Tom turned his head back to me. I looked into his ice eyes, my own eyes the size of saucers.

"Miss Pembroke I am one of the prefects and I welcome you in the name of all Slytherin students. If you are in need of assistance, or have any questions please feel free to come and talk to me." Tom finished off; that charming aura still surrounding him.

"Of course thank you so much for your hospitality." I gave a bright smile to him.

Tom gulped closing his eyes letting out a small breathe of air. As he opened his eyes I noticed his pupils dialating.

He quickly turned; about to move away, but Lavender walked over ceasing his movements.

"You know Riddle I'm taking Adriel on a tour of the school tomorrow. And with you being the male prefect perhaps it'd be appropriate for you to accompany us?" Lavender spoke a mischievous glint in her eye.

I already knew that she was not inviting Tom because he was the male prefect. She was inviting him for a completely different reason. Tom spun around to face us once more his charming demeanor still intact.

God this guy is very handsome.

Shut up Adriel! Dad said he didn't have a nose or something.

Just as Tom opened his mouth to reply a shout by Abraxas was heard. "If Tom is too busy to accompany the both of you, I'll happily take his place!"

Everyone in the large group turned to Abraxas who was looking at both Lavender and I with a slightly dazed smile.

Tom gave Abraxas a sickly sweet smile. "As generous as the offer stands Abraxas, it is my duty as a prefect to be as accommodating to new students as possible. Therefore no matter how busy I may be, I will be accompanying Miss Rowle and Miss Pembroke tomorrow."

I noticed Abraxas flinch at Tom's overly-kind tone. He bowed his head in a sort of submission causing an awkward silence to roll across the group.

Tom didn't seem affected by the silence at all. He simply sat in an arm chair that was next to the fire and pulled out a book. Penelope started to chat with Gideon while the other young men made conversation quietly among themselves.

Even Lavender had sat back down on the couch and appeared to be studying a textbook of some sort.

Potions 101?

I stood there uncomfortably watching the group do their own things. Then a sudden thought occurred to me. I was attending a magic school, in the middle of the semester, and I don't even know how to use my wand correctly.

Great.

I was going to need to read heavily on some textbooks in an attempt to catch up. Possibly even ask Dumbledore for some help.

Tell me levitate something with my mind? Yep I can do that no problem. Tell me to levitate something with a wand? Nope, I'm completely clueless. Ask me resurrect a dead person? Hey, I got you covered no strings attached! Ask me to make a potion? Well, you're probably the one I'm resurrecting.

With a sigh of defeat I couldn't help but lets my eyes wander to Tom. He sat in his chair looking almost perfect while reading. His eyebrows were scrunched as if he was trying to focus, but it didn't take a genius to figure that his thoughts were drifting.

However, as I stared at Tom I failed to notice his head pop up and his gaze clash with mine. It took a second to register that I had been caught practically eye-raping him.

"Something the matter Adriel?" Tom raised a brow clearly amused.

"No nothing at all just, um, daydreaming! Yes, I was daydreaming!" I spoke a blush appearing on my cheeks.

Could I make a bigger fool out of myself?

Tom simply hummed in reply a smirk dancing across his lips. I watched a dark emotion appear behind his eyes, but it was gone within seconds.

Desire. Tom Riddle felt desire at this very second.

At first I thought he'd go back to his book, but instead he remained staring at me with a smirk.

"Ilvermorny. What house were you in?" Tom questioned breaking the silence between us.

This caught the attention of Lavender as well as Abraxas, and I believe Victor Rosier.

"Thunderbird." I replied my American accent sticking out like a sore thumb.

It was moments like these that I was happy I didn't speak with my native southern tongue. My speech already sticks out enough, I could only imagine my embarrassment if I were to speak in a southern slang.

"My father has told me before that Thunderbird would be the closest house in equivalence to Slytherin." A new voice spoke.

Abraxas, Lavender, Tom, and I all turned out attention to Victor. A small blush appeared on his cheeks at the new found attention.

"I mean I know that the houses are not the same don't get me wrong. I was just saying that if we were to put all the house's side by side, Thunderbird and Slytherin would be closest to each other-" Victor started rambling nervously.

I let out a small laugh. "Don't worry I understand what you mean't." I spoke a smile on my lips.

Victor gave a huge smile back in response. I didn't know a lot about the Hogwarts houses, but I did know that Slytherin wasn't known to have the nicest people in it. So I was slightly perplexed as to the warmth I was receiving from all these people.

"What's you blood-status?" Abraxas quickly questioned earning a small glare Lavender and Victor. Tom looked curious as well. "Don't give me those looks I know you were all wondering it too." Abraxas defended holding his arms up.

They turned the attention away from Abraxas and looked at me, curious to my answer. I could see Tom glaring out of the corner of my eye probably not wanting to be disappointed.

I'm pretty sure Slytherin was the house that only liked witches and wizards who came from all magic families. I was smart enough to know that me saying 'half-breed' probably wouldn't go well. I mean maybe if I added in the fact that I half-breed to a wizard and archangel making me a Nephilim that would completely wipe their views on me being half-breed.

I mean technically my blood was purest of the lot here. They're all hair-less apes, and I'm only half hair-less ape. It works like that. Right? But, I can't say I'm half angel. How would that conversation even go 'Oh yeah I'm a Nephilim and could kill you all with a snap of my fingers. Don't forget the fact that I'm illegal by the laws of Heaven.'

No! I'm not some idiot. Screw that I'm going with pure-blood.

"Pure-blood, Pembroke is an old American pure-blood family that's been going for generations." I answered technically I wasn't lying. Pembroke was an American pure-blooded family. I mean until me, but still.

I noticed all of them shake their heads in approval.

Yeah sorry, I just screwed all you guys over.

"Do you still live in the states, Adriel?" I heard Tom's smooth voice ask.

"Yeah my family actually lives in New York City right now." I answered.

I'm pretty sure my father's grandparents lived in New York City during 1942. Tom didn't react just stared at me thoughtfully.

"Wait, I thought you said you were born in Louisiana?" Lavender asked in confusion.

"I was, but when I was ten my mother ended up getting a job at The Magical Congress of the United States. She moved us out to New York so she could be closer to her job." I explained remembering that my dad worked there before I was born.

I'm pretty sure he told me at some point that our family went back generations in working for The Magical Congress of the United States. My whole plan was to play it off as if my dad's grandparents - my great grandparents - were simply just my parents.

If need be I would simply take a small trip to New York myself and track them down. It wouldn't be very hard to mess with their minds and make them believe I was truly their daughter.

Lavender shook her head slowly bringing her eyes back down to her book. Victor and Abraxas were absorbed back into conversation by the others once more, while Tom just sat book in lap staring at fire.

I walked over so I was standing in front of the flames. I couldn't help but let my eyes travel to the left of my body seeing Tom sitting in his chair. The two of us stayed in silence as we gazed upon the dancing flames.

After a few moments Tom looked over to me with narrowed eyes.

"You know it's quite curious that you would just switch to a school halfway across the world in the middle of a semester?" He broke the silence his voice lacing suspicion.

I internally panicked but quickly calmed down. This was good if I kept his attention and curiosity aimed toward me it'd be easier to get closer to him. At that moment I had decided that I was going to be Tom Riddle's personal mystery.

I was going to keep him on his toes, constantly surprise him. I knew that would be hard as I could already tell that Tom was very observant and an extremely good lie-detector.

"Yes that is curious." I cut my thoughts off and answered, making sure to keep my answer was short.

Tom looked at me in wonder trying to read my face for any sort of emotion. I simply plastered a cocky smirk on my face turning away.

"I'm quite exhausted Lavender, I'm going to turn in for bed now." I told her.

Lavender's head popped from her book and she gave me an eager nod before going back to reading. With a shrug of my shoulders I turned around and began my journey into the dormitories.

I could feel Tom's gaze on my body until I turned into the hallways and was no longer in his line of view. Quickly I reached the dorm room and walked inside. I slammed the door shut behind me and let out long exaggerated breathe.

As much as I wanted to shower I was both too hungry and tired for that. With no time to waste I clicked my fingers and everything came undone.

My face was now clear of any makeup. The previously perfect ringlets were destroyed and in it's place pin straight hair. That god-forsaken tight dress was finally off and a tank top and underwear now covered my body.

There is one thing that I absolutely cannot handle in life, and that would be going to bed uncomfortable. Pants make sleeping uncomfortable. Therefore I don't where pants in bed.

I heard my stomach growl and considered conjuring up some food. Ultimately I decided I was more tired than hungry and ended crawling in my bed. As I got comfortably situated under the covers I waved my wrist turning out the lights, drowning the room in darkness.

I wasn't worried about anyone walking in anytime soon as I heard everyone from Tom Riddle's group still in the common room. My thoughts were quickly lulled into a peaceful dreamless sleep.
