Some New Friends

Scar's Perspective-

Scar walked into his math class.

He saw other people talking to their friends and one girl putting away her headphones.

Guess Jim's not here yet.

"Hello!"

Scar turned and saw the teacher at her desk.

"What's your name?" She asked as Scar walked up to her.

"Scar."

"I'm Mrs. Treavor." She smiled before looking at her computer.

"Looks like you're sitting next to..."

Please be Jimmy, please be Jimmy-

"Juliet!"

"Who?"

Mrs. Treavor pointed to the girl who was putting away her headphones earlier.

Scar walked over to her.

"Er- hi." Scar said awkwardly as he sat down at the desk next to Juliet.

She had brown hair that stopped at her shoulders and had purple streaks in it.

She wore a light purple hoodie that had a black cat and the words 'Chococat' on it. There were also flowers around the cat.

She had glasses on, and she was biting the eraser on her pencil as she looked down at a drawing in her notebook.

Scar saw a they/them pronoun pin on their lanyard.

"Juliet, right? I'm Scar."

"Oh, I actually prefer to go by Tinsley."

"Cool! I'll call you that then!"

Tinsley smiled, "You a part of the community yourself?"

Scar shook his head, "No. But I'm pretty sure my friend is."

"Who's your friend?"

"Grian."

"What does he have first period?"

"Biology."

Tinsley nodded, "My friend Carter had Biology first. She's super sweet. Been through a lot with being trans."

Scar nodded, "Aren't you trans? I'm judging by your pronoun pin, sorry if it's offensive."

"No, it's fine! You seem really nice and chill, especially since your friend might be a part of the community. But to be honest, I'm not sure if I'm trans. I'm lesbian though."

Scar was about to say something when Mrs. Treavor interrupted by clapping her hands.

"Welcome class!" She exclaimed, "This is algebra 2; much harder than algebra 1."

She started with introductions and handed out a worksheet that was like a puzzle they had to unscramble.

-

Scar walked to his fourth period, the class he had before lunch.

Spanish 2.

Scar walked in and saw Grian, who was writing things down in his binder.

"Hey G!" Scar smiled as he sat down next to his friend.

"Hey Scar!" Grian returned the smile, "How've you been?"

"Good! I made a new friend."

"Knew you would."

"Now what is that supposed to mean?"

"You're very extroverted. I knew you would make a new friend."

Scar shook his head as he took out his binder.

"Yeah, well they're very nice."

"They?"

"Boys! Enough chit chat!"

Scar and Grian shut up as they did their bell work which was translating sentences.

Should be easy, right?

Especially since they learned this all in Spanish 1.

Well, you'd be wrong.

"Canta..." Grian mumbled to himself, stuck on the 2nd sentence, "Cod, what does canta mean?"

"Sing." Scar whispered.

Grian looked up and saw that Scar was done.

"You understand this?"

Scar shrugged and then smiled, "I had a friend who spoke Spanish. He really helped me out."

"Now!" Their teacher, Senor H. called, "Who can help me translate this first sentence?"

Only a couple of kids raised their hands.

Senor H. called on a girl.

Soon, they got to the third sentence.

Good. Grian thought, picking up his pencil. Then I can translate these. (Sorry it switch's to Grian's pov, the rest will be Scar's)

"Senor Gotts! Would you care to help me translate the third sentence?"

"Er..." Grian glanced over at Scar's translation, feeling incredibly embarrassed.

Senor H. saw where Grian's eyes darted and called on Scar instead.

Scar answered and Grian felt his face heat up.

Scar elbowed his friend softly and smiled at him.

Grian gave Scar a weak smile.

Guess his day hasn't been the best.

-

"You okay?" Scar asked Grian as they walked to lunch together.

"Course! Why would anything be wrong?"
Grian asked, well kind of snapped.

"You just seem upset. Are you sure something didn't happen?"

"I'm fine. Just embarrassed about Spanish."

"Well, I can always help you out."

"You sure?"

"Course. I'll always put you first. No matter what."

At least, that's what he said.

Just because he said he'd do it, doesn't mean he actually will.

I wish he stayed true to his words.

Maybe then, everything would work out.
