Chapter 3
Brooke and Chris made their way back to the apartment building with Brooke stumbling quite a bit along the way. She had managed to get herself completely wasted while Chris was subject to watch.
"You know what, Chris?" Brooke started as they got out of the stairwell.
"What?" He asked, guiding her down the hall and trying to keep her from falling.
"You're hilarious." She giggled.
He chuckled. "That's very flattering, but you're shitfaced right now. Let's get you into bed with some water and ibuprofen before you blow chunks all over this hallway."
"That's what I'm talking about." She hiccuped. "So fucking funny."
"All right drunkie, keys please." He said and held out his hand. She groaned and handed him the keys to her apartment. "Thank you." He unlocked the door and let Brooke in first before following her inside.
"Whoa there buddy. What are you doing in my home?" She asked and crossed her arms.
He raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "I'm helping you out, okay. I'll leave as soon as I know you're all right." She sighed and sat down on the couch.
"Okay, I guess you can help me out."
"All right. Where is your medicine cabinet? You're gonna want some ibuprofen tomorrow and water." He said and looked around the small apartment.
"Glasses are in the cabinet next to the fridge and medicine is in the bathroom."
"Great." Chris responded first making his may to the bathroom then back into the kitchen for a glass of water. "Alright, let's get you into bed." He said gesturing for Brooke to stand up. She let out a heavy sigh before getting up and leading him to her bedroom. Chris set down the medicine and water on her bedside table as Brooke plopped down on her bed. "You're not gonna change into pajamas or anything?" He questioned.
"Well not while you're staring at me, no." She crossed her arms and stared him down like an upset five-year-old.
Chris put up his arms in defeat. "I'll leave you be, but I'm gonna stay in this hallway 'till you're done, okay?"
"Alright." She groaned before standing up. "Now shoo." She ushered him out of the room and closed the door behind him. Chris waited in the hall for a while and looked around her apartment. She still had a few boxes tucked in her back hall making it obvious that she had recently moved. Other than that the apartment looked very put together and she had an abundance of books everywhere. Before he could further explore the apartment Brooke walked out and leaned against the door frame.
"You all set?" He asked.
"Yep. You can head out now."
"Alright." He said. "I'll get out of your hair. Knock on my door when you wake up in the morning so I know you're okay."
"Fine, I'll do it. Now good night, Chris."
"Night Brooke." He closed the door after himself and made his way to his own apartment.

Brooke woke up the next morning with possibly the worst hangover she'd ever had. As she shielded herself from the sunlight shining through the curtains she remembered the night before. She peeked out from under the covers and saw the ibuprofen and water sitting on her bedside table. She sighed in relief and reached for them.
When she finally started to feel a little better, she got out of bed, changed her clothes, and made her way over to Chris' apartment. It took him a while to answer the door and when he did he was shirtless with only a pair of pajama bottoms.
"Hey Brooke." He answered still rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "You look like you slept great." He added sarcastically.
"Thank you, thanks." She chuckled. "But I really owe you one. You saved me from feeling like complete death this morning."
"Well, I'm glad I could help."
"You really did. And, to pay you back, I want to make you breakfast today."
"I'll have to take you up on that. I'll be over in a few, gotta change first." He chuckled and tugged and the side of his pants.
"Alright, I'll leave the door unlocked for you. And shirts are mandatory." She joked before going back to her apartment to get things ready.
Chris arrived a few minutes later knocking on the door before walking inside. He was fully clothed and looked quite nice. "It smells amazing in here." He added as he closed the door behind him.
"Why thank you." She said and did a little curtsy earning a laugh from Chris.
"Is there anything I can do to help you out?" He asked as he looked into the kitchen.
"You've already done enough, trust me. It's almost done so you can take a seat at the table." Chris took a seat at her table and shortly after Brooke came over with two plates full of french toast and bacon. "You want anything to drink? Coffee, tea, juice?"
"I'll take some tea please."
"Milk and sugar?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Am man after my own heart." She chuckled as she made her way back to the kitchen. "You can start eating if you'd like."
"Awesome. My mouth has been watering since I walked in here."
Brooke smiled as she walked back to the table with the two mugs in hand. "I see you're enjoying my cooking." She remarked as Chris devoured his breakfast.
He swallowed quickly before responding. "This is amazing. It might be the best french toast I've ever had."
"Well thank you. I'm pretty proud of my cooking skills."
"You should be! This stuff is incredible."
The conversation while they ate was rather limited and the few things that were said were mainly praise for the delicious food.
"Wow. That was an incredible meal." Chris said and leaned back in his chair.
"I'm glad you liked it. It's probably one of my favorite things to make."
"That's pretty neat." He sipped on his tea before continuing. "Where are you from? You have a bit of an accent."
"I'm from Texas. Just outside Austin, actually. You?"
"Right outside the great city of Boston."
"That's great. So you're pretty close to home."
"Yeah. My mom has always been pretty happy with the decision to stay close."
"Yeah, the old Robinson clan hasn't been super happy about the move but y'know." She shrugged. "The city summoned me."
"Well I know that I'm glad you're here. It was about time for a new neighbor around here."
"That's great to hear. It's always nerve racking to move to a new city but so far it's been smooth sailing."
Chris started to speak but his phone ringing interrupted him. "Hey, listen. I've gotta go, but this was really nice. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright. See you later." She added walking Chris to the door.
"Sorry about having to leave so soon. I'll try and find you later, okay?"
"I'll be right here."
"Cool, see you later." He gave her a quick salute before heading down the hall.
What a dork.
