4| The chakra of the ancient world
At first the only thing Naruto saw was darkness, he tried to concentrate. But no matter how often he tried, he couldn't just drown out the sounds coming from his surroundings. It was like everything was louder on purpose, the birds chirped rather noisily, the wind howled and let the trees rustle. He huffed in slight annoyance and squinted his eyes close again.
Madara had his sharingan activated and watched closely over his new student. The Uchiha could see the big pond of chakra right inside the boy's stomach, but strangely it lacked it's usual blue color. It was almost transparent. He narrowed his eyes, if something happened he could intervene quickly.
Hashirama leaned a bit back and stared at Naruto. The boy's eyebrows were scrunched in confusion and concentration. And somehow Hashirama could feel his struggle, so he leaned a bit closer and held both his hands on Naruto's ears. Slowly he closed his eyes and murmured a seal under his breath. When he retreated his hands, all the sound was blocked from his ears.
Naruto was quite surprised. Suddenly, as if someone flipped a switch, all the noices around him fell silent. He couldn't even hear his own heartbeat anymore. With new found determination, he started feeling around for his chakra.
Minutes passed. And just then something started glowing in front of his inner eye. Naruto's mouth fell wide open: right in front of him was a huge lake, it was hard for him to see it's other shore. But the size of his chakra reserves wasn't what got him surprised, it was the color of his life source. It wasn't blue, nor white. It shone in almost every colour he knew. It was as if he was looking at a rainbow. Fascinated he reached out and got closer to his chakra. He had never seen something as colourful.
After he finally got enough of the vibrant colours, he remembered Hashirama's words. He needed to fill his chakra into something that looked like trenches. Frantically he started searching, but his worry was for nothing. He just needed to look a bit, it was almost in front of his nose. Naruto couldn't help but grin, finally he achieved something, finally he could show his parents that he wasn't just a nuisance. Concentrating again, Naruto willed the chakra to flow into the trenches and spread. It didn't take long to fill every trench with a bit of his chakra and when he looked at his final work, he was more than satisfied. His whole inner eyes just saw colourful streaks.
"Good job !", Hashirama started praising as soon as he noticed the chakra radiating around Naruto. He patted him on the shoulder and looked over to Madara, who seemed to ponder about something. "Is everything alright ?" The Uchiha looked up and nodded still a bit dazed. "Did you see the colour of his chakra ?" Madara's question caught both, Hashirama and Tobirama, off guard. All eyes turned to Naruto, who got slightly uncomfortable as he noticed the stares. Nervous he started to fiddle with his fingers while looking at the ground. As he heard a loud gasp he looked up again. Hashirama gaped at him. "Naruto-kun, your chakra is looking like a rainbow..." Tobirama nodded in agreement, looking as surprised as Hashirama felt.
"Idiots.", Madara hissed, after he thought for a bit he came to a satisfying conclusion. Tobirama threw a heated glare at him, he still couldn't stand the Uchiha. "He inherited all of the powers of the great Rikudou Sennin. In his veins flows the chakra of a thousand year old being. All the chakra natures are combined inside his body." Naruto just stared, unable to form words. This was unexpected. Suddenly Hashirama started grinning quite crazily. "That just means we have to intensify your upcoming training." Somehow this let shivers run down Naruto's spine. The way the Senju had said it felt malicious. Madara, noticing his foreshadowing, just shook his head and stood up, signalling Naruto to follow him.
Hurried he scurried to his feet and followed the legend, always hanging his head low in a sign of respect. Seeing this Tobirama snarled, he still didn't understand why someone would show respect to any Uchiha. Ignoring the Senju, Madara just smirked and walked a bit faster. When they went far enough he stopped and if Naruto didn't have his fast reflexes he'd have probably walked right into him.
"The reason why we're here is actually quite simple. I need to check something, just in case.", Madara said, while turning around. Naruto looked up to him and then nodded in understanding. The Uchiha didn't say anything, he just sank down to the grass and patted on the spot next to him, indicating Naruto to sit next to him. His eyes noticeably widened, his heart started to beat twice as fast as before. He was nervous. But he had every right to, hadn't he ? Not everyone had the chance to sit next to THE Madara Uchiha. Gulping down his anxiety, he settled down next to him.
Madara just smirked and pulled out something that looked like a plain sheet of paper. No, it was really just a plain sheet of paper. Naruto couldn't help, but feel a bit disappointed. What was he going to do with a piece of paper ? Surely not learning anything cool. "Channel your chakra into it.", the adult gave him instructions. "You can do it, right ?" It was almost not perceptible, but Naruto could hear the mocking tone in his seemingly innocent question. Determined to prove him wrong, he held his hand above the paper and closed his eyes. Almost as soon as he did, he could see the blinding colours of his chakra. Concentrating he willed it to flow in strong waves to his hand and from his hand into the paper.
And when he thought he did it, Naruto carefully opened his eyes to look at the paper. First nothing happened and the boy was about to try again, but then it slowly started to rip into four even pieces. Fascinated Naruto watched as the first scrap started to turn damp, so much, that after a few seconds the water started dripping down onto the grass. The next piece, opposite to the one before it, started to disappear in a column of fire, the flames danced widely and Naruto could practically feel the great heat radiating from it. But as fast as it ignited, it turned to ash. Slightly sad, he watched as the ashes fell to the ground. But soon his attention was on the next scrap of paper: as if it was hit by lightning, the paper started to wrinkle and when Naruto closed his eyes, he could swear he heard the electricity cracking. Finally it came to the last paperpiece, this time the paper changed agonizing slow. It started with the right edge. A layer of dirt started spreading on the paper, consuming it like it was some kind of delicious food. And as soon as the whole paper was covered, the dirt crumbled and fell, like the ashes, to the ground.
"Just like I expected.", Madara mumbled. He was quite pleased with the results, but it seemed as if Naruto's kekkei genkais would only unlock, after he mastered his first element. "What is it ?", Naruto asked curiously. He had heard what Madara said, but he didn't understand what he meant. But instead of answering the Uchiha just stood up and walked back to the Senju brothers.
