The Wound
Aunora groaned in agony, pain rushing through her body as she became fully aware of what was happening. The pain nearly overtook her, her vision blurring and distorting. She clenched her eyes shut, riding out the pain until it somewhat subsided.
"Aunora?" The demon horse gritted her teeth. Umbra was the last person she wanted to talk to right now. "Your leg is stuck."
"I know that, Captain Obvious," Aunora growled, heart thudding fearfully in her chest.
Umbra's expression wavered, turning from angry to concerned. He started to kneel down. "Here, let me help you..."
"No!" Aunora snapped, flashing her teeth at him. "Don't touch me!" She didn't want his help. She didn't need his help.
Umbra gritted his teeth in frustration, taking a step towards her. Aunora immediately went on guard, snarling low and threateningly. Aunora flinched when Umbra approached the rock that was sitting atop her leg, hot fear pulsing through her.
"I can get out of this myself!" Aunora shouted, raking her fingernails down Umbra's leg.
Umbra violently lashed out, slapping her hard across the face. Long, bloody streaks were left in her skin, her face contorting with pain. Aunora growled at Umbra, retaliating. Once again, they were locked in vicious combat, the bad blood of previous not marred by their near-death experience.
They fought in a frenzy of claws and blood, their snarls and screams magnified against the low ceiling of the cave.
Umbra pressed Aunora against the jagged wall her leg was trapped underneath, shaking her mercilessly. Aunora spat curses, kicking him in the chest. Umbra gasped for breath, stumbling back and holding up his arm defensively.
"This is all your fault," Umbra barked, frantically rubbing the upper portion of his arms, leaving a blotchy rash. "You got us into this freaking situation! We're gonna die, and it's all your fault!"
Umbra's words echoed in Aunora's ears, her head sinking down. Aunora's teeth were grit, her breathing ragged.
"I've got to get out of here, I've gotta see Esper again," Aunora looked up, malice twisting her face. "I hate you!" she shouted, "I really freaking hate you! I wish that avalanche would have crushed the life out of you! I WISH YOU HAD DIED! You're ugly and obnoxious and you make me sick and...you..." her voice trailed off, the woman gasping in pain, she fell to the ground, scraping at the rocks she was trapped under. Aunora screamed in agony, her body thrashing in frustration and primal fear.
"Why does it hurt so bad?!" she covered her face, on the verge of tears. "I've gotta get out of this!" She no longer seemed fixated on Umbra, her words simply verbalizing her muddled thoughts.
Umbra's expression softened, recognizing the honest look of fear in Aunora's eyes. He had seen that very blind panic in his son many times.
"Aunora," he commanded slowly, holding up his palms, "stay still. I'll free your leg. Moving around will only make it hurt more."
"I said no!" she snapped, her voice cracking. "I don't need your stupid help!" Aunora shook violently, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her sobs racked her body, miserably dry heaving and coughing. "I can do this myself! I'm not weak!" Aunora's voice lowered, "That's how it's always been, I can't take care of myself, I don't need some idiot to help me..."
Umbra huffed, glaring down at Aunora. His nails continued to claw furiously at his arms, his other injures bleeding and throbbing. "What is your problem with me?! What is freaking wrong with you?!"
Aunora was hunched over, trembling and crying. "I-I..." she swallowed harshly, gasping for breath, "I just don't wanna get attatched, I just can't do this again..."
