It had been a few days since the twins' birth, Helaena was recovering well and fast. Aemond had been somewhat of a good father, but he usually spent his time where he usually was. The few moments where Alana saw Alicent were awkward, but Alicent never mentioned it but Aegon and Alana both locked the door whenever they both were in the chambers together.
Alana currently sat in the maesters office, she had known for weeks but hadn't fully had it confirmed. She was excited but nervous especially since childbirth is how Arra Norrey died.
She watched as the Grand Maester Orwyle, walked over to her. "How are you my lady?" He grabbed a chair and placed it down where she sat.
"Fine." Alana nodded, twisting her rings. "But I am certain I'm with child."
"Oh." Grand Maester Orwyle looked at her shocked by her words but nodded. "When was the last time you had your moon blood?"
"2 moons ago..at first I just thought it was stress perhaps, but I haven't gotten my blood this moon." Alana looked up at him, still fidgeting with her rings.
Maester Orwyle nodded, "Have you experienced Nausea? Fatigue? Swelling of your chest?"
Alana listened to his every word and nodded.
"Well It seems you are indeed with child, two moons." Maester Orwyle spoke with a smile on his face, the words that he spoke made the whole situation real, and reality was beginning to seep in.
Alana let out a shaky breath and nodded, standing up. "Thank you Maester Orwyle."
"Congratulations, my lady. The gods will gift you with a healthy child." He smiled again, before Alana left the room.
She walked down the hall, she could faintly hear the twins crying somewhere in the castle, but she knew Helaena and her nursemaids would take care of them.
Alana wondered what Aegon would react, would he be happy? Would he get upset? The halls were empty with no one around, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
She brought her hand up to tiny bump on her stomach. As she continued to walk her mind started to think about childbirth, and the many dangers of it. How many woman lost their lives because of it.
Despite her worries she felt excited, having a tiny life grow inside of her, creating a family with the man she loved. She hoped Aegon would react well.
Eventually she got to her shared chambers, she shut the door and locked it, seeing Aegon with his riding leathers, smelling like dragon from across the room. She took her hand off her stomach and walked to him.
Aegon smiled seeing her come in the room, "Where have you been?" He closed the distance between them and kissed her before pulling back, his hands on her hips.
"The gardens." Alana lied, "Needed fresh air."
"The gardens?" Aegon raised his eyebrows, "Fresh air is nice."
"How was Sunfyre?" Alana asked, smiling reassuring at him.
"He was good. The flight was quite exhilarating." Aegon said, rubbing his thumbs on her clothed hips.
"How so?" Alana tilted her head, putting her hands on his shoulder, rubbing them subconsciously.
"I took him high in the sky, higher than ever. The Red Keep looked so small, and I could hardly see the smallfolk, but it felt nice to feel the wind on my face again." Aegon smiled, his violet eyes gazing into her brown ones.
Alana let out a shaky exhale, her face going back to neutral. "I do have something to tell you."
His smiled faded as he realized the seriousness of the conversation. "What is it?" His voice was filled with worry.
Alana stayed silent, trying to find the best words to say. Aegon could tell she was getting nervous with the way she was fidgeting with the rings, or when she furrowed her brow.
"I went to the maester today, and he confirmed I was with child." Alana let out an exhale, the truth finally coming out.
Aegon eyes went wide, his expression filled with shock. His grip on her hips got tighter, his fingers digging into her dress. Suddenly all his words from his throat vanished. He could hear his heart beating so loud that he thought it was going beat out of his chest.
Finally he spoke, his voice quiet. "Your...with child?" His violet eyes continued to bore into Alana's brown ones.
"I am." Alana nodded, her voice filled with nervousness on how else he would react.
Aegon let out an exhale, the reality slowly seeping in. He swallowed hard, his adam's apple bobbing. His hands were still gripping her hips tightly. "With my child?"
Alana nodded, reaching his eyes for any excitement, but only found shock and surprise. "Your babe.."
His expression changed as she spoke those words, a slight smile on his face. His grip on her hips got more relaxed, gently drawing circles with his fingers.
He moved his hand off her hip to the slight bump on her stomach, he placed his palm flat against the small bump. His eyes moved from her face to her stomach. "I knew it would happen eventually but..I didn't expect now.....How far are you?" He looked back up to her.
"Two moons.." Alana smiled, her voice soft but with worry.
His hands still continued to rub her stomach, as if trying to feel the life growing inside of her. "How are you feeling?"
"Good." Alana nodded with a family on her face. "I'm excited but scared."
Aegon looked up at her, concern on his face now. "Your scared?"
"I am..of childbirth. So many things could go wrong, the babe could be born stillborn, or I could bleed out.." Alana spoke, her voice filled with fear. She was terrified of childbirth, she didn't want to die like Arra did, and have Aegon and the babe having to live without her, Alana couldn't bare the thought of it.
He looked into her eyes, brining his hand up to her cheek, his thumb rubbing against her skin. "I won't let anything happen to you nor our child." He kissed her forehead. "We have each other, and now the babe. We're going to be okay.." Aegon spoke, to which Alana nodded, bringing him into a hug.
"I will admit, I don't think i'll be a good father..but i'll try.." He held her close, his arms wrapping around her waist. Alana could feel his beating heart, and his breathing.
"You'll be okay..we're in this together remember?" Alana said, burying her face in his neck.
"I don't want to end up being a bad father...not like my father was..." He spoke, his arms tightened around her, his fingers absentmindedly drawing patterns on her back.
"You won't..you'll be better than him..."
