Jaehyun| Forever engraved ♡
"Tattoo like, the name of a persons soul mate is slowly developed in the humans childhood years. Most cases the name is seen on their wrist, but there is some unfortunate times where the name cannot be seen by the person, and will only be found by an unmistakable sharp pain"
"It sounds like bologna"
"Oh come on Y|n! I'm sure you have a soulmate, you probably just can't see their name because of where it's placed"
You huff in annoyance and stare at the book your best friend was holding. For years you were excited to see what your soulmates name would be, but you were constantly disappointed to find that it was never found, anywhere on your body. People kept reassuring you that it was there and only at the right time will you see it but you kept digging a deeper hole for yourself by making yourself believe that you were just different from everyone else and that you didn't get a soulmate.
"Think of it this way, it'll make the journey more exciting because you won't know their name and you'll only find out when you meet them"
"That makes no sense"
You thought your friends would've given up by now, but they were stubborn, just like you.
"Anyway, enough dwelling on this. Let's go! I've got a coupon for this place that just opened!"
You sighed and went along with your friend. Walking down the streets of melting snow, you watched as shopkeepers put up decorations approving the idea that Valentine's Day was coming soon, inviting couples of any age to enter their store and empty their wallets.
You walked by one particular chocolate store. Every year you notice that they set up in the most romantic and extravagant way possible. Normally the owner would be setting up the decorations in the lingering cold, but this year, a tall young man stood in front of one of the windows, hanging up a stream of different kinds of hearts and lip shaped pieces of paper, strung onto a long piece of white string.
You felt a dull ache crawl down your spine from your head, sending a warm shiver everywhere, except your heart, leaving it to beat untouched. You found the sensation uncomfortable yet, somehow familiar.
Your friend notices what or more like who, has caught your attention. Dragging you to the store she begins to walk slower as you both get closer to the door. The man looks away from what he's doing and gives you and your friend a warm welcoming smile before going back to the decorations. The dull ache still pulses, and you can feel your heart beat in your finger tips. Walking behind your friend and into the store, she's instantly captured by al the different types of yummy treats that sit strategically on the shelves, waiting for the prime moment to wrap their arms around the innocent passer by and loop them through the endless tunnel of wants vs needs just so that they leave with at least two bags of chocolate that will end up being eaten before they even reach their house.
You sit somewhere, not sure of what to do. You're bored and not matter how good everything looks in this store, your pockets are empty.
Your friend waddles over to you, distracted, and plops a familiar book down on your lap before shuffling back to the shelf full of hearts shaped chocolates and boxes with assortment of sweets neatly placed inside. Opening to the first page, you realize that this was the book your friend was reading to you only moments ago. Skimming the first page you pass the part she read you and continued on from there.
Although this sharp pain won't come right away for these people with hidden markings; it will, however, start to show its self slowly once the person has come in contact with the other, a dull knocking or ache of some sort. This feeling will slowly grow stronger the more they see one another and only when they exchange each others names will the original sharp pain show through and the marking fully appear. However on some rare occasions the pain can become so unbearable that the holder-
"Um sorry to disturb you but is there something I can help you with?"
Shutting the book abruptly, the thick sound from all the pages echoes through the empty store, startling the poor worker in front of you. Looking up you see the same man from before looking down at you.
"Oh a-ah, no I'm just waiting for my friend-"
Looking over you see her almost buried in a mountain of bags probably filled with chocolates, hobbling over towards you.
"Never mind I don't know her, pretend I'm not here"
Chuckling he stands back and quietly watches your interaction with her.
"Come on let's go!! We have so many episodes of Persona to get through!!"
Grabbing your hand she drags you up and onto your feet, causing both of you to stumble.
"These will last those and another series at least!"
Holding up the bags she runs out of the store eagerly. Bending down to pick up your book, you turn back to the guy and wave slightly to him before following your friend and picking up and thing that seems to fall out of her bag as she skips back to your shared apartment.
_______
"Oh come on admit it! He's your soulmate!"
"No way! I didn't even feel the pain the book said I would feel"
"Maybe it's not the right moment"
You stuff your face with fries again and stare out the window, trying to get your friend on your side was as hard as finding a needle in a hay stack, but you were determined.
"Come, after we finish eating, we'll look for him and check"
You paid no attention to her, and she knew it. You continued to stare outside and watch people live their lives, unaware that you were watching them. Your eyes landed on a familiar figure, who just so happened to look back at you. Waving his hand he smiled a nice genuine smile. You followed him with your eyes as he crossed the street and entered the fast food joint you were currently at.
"Hello"
He came walking up to you confidently, but you could see the awkwardness in his eyes. Your friend turned around and pointed a somewhat accusatory finger at him.
"You're the guy that's my friend's soulmate!"
Widening your eyes, you send a glare that could possibly kill over to your friend. She covered her mouth a chuckled awkwardly before taking her drink and fries and mumbled a short apology before running out of the restaurant. The man sat down in your friend's seat hesitantly, your eyes on your friend who happened to be sending you kissey faces and a thumbs up before skipping down the street. Sighing you turn your attention back to him.
"Sorry about that"
Chuckling he waved his hand dismissively and smiled slightly after.
"Don't worry, even if we aren't soulmates I wouldn't mind getting to know you"
You felt your cheeks heat up at what seemed like a compliment and you looked down at your hands quietly fiddling with them. A few moments went by with nothing being said between the two of you.
"Uh, I'm-"
And just as he was about to speak your phone buzzed obnoxiously causing you to groan and reach for your vibrating phone.
"I'm sorry hold on a moment"
Looking down at your phone, your friends contact came up on your screen.
Y|n, I was going through that book and I found something that you might want to know...
You sent a quick reply saying that now wasn't a good time and you looked back up at him. You motioned for him to continue.
"Anyways, as I was saying, I'm Jae-"
NO! Wait! It's about your marking!
Dismissing your phone you turn it on silent. He clears his throat and asks if everything is okay, you just nod and ask him to continue, which he doesn't end up doing thanks to your friend sending your phone on a wild roller coaster ride. Answering her call you huff irritably.
"Just hear me out okay"
You didn't have the patients for this, and you were thankful he did. You gave her an annoyed okay and waited for her to continue.
"There's a chance, that you could possibly...die"
