Word count: 2.1K
Song: NEFFEX - Pro
Johnny was in one of their favorite clubs with the rest of the gang. Well, not the whole gang, all twenty-one of them almost never met up in the same place. They were a busy group, after all, it's not easy to stay on the top in the underground.
Currently, the members that were present were congratulating Taeyong on his engagement. Their leader somehow managed to create a well-working relationship all while dealing with a twenty-member mafia that worked in South Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, America, and Canada.
"Congratulations, Taeyong! I wish you all the best," Mark said raising his glass and clinking it with everyone else.
"Hey, how come Iseul isn't here?" Doyoung asked.
"She's with the girls, I thought you knew," Taeyong informed them and gulped his drink.
"Aw, too bad, I wanted to check is she was in her right state of mind when she agreed to marry you," joked Johnny.
Taeyong gave him a pointed side stared but decided not to comment.
Seeing how it was for the best not to press his luck much further Johnny playfully smacked Taeyong's shoulder. "But in all seriousness, I do wish you all the best, you two are truly perfect for each other," he said sincerely. Iseul and Taeyong really were that thing that some girls would call #CoupleGoals. Johnny liked Iseul — in a brotherly way of course. She had the toughness that was needed for their kind of lifestyle and she was an almost as equally good leader as Taeyong. Although it was never just her in action or in control when it came to the mafia business, ever since she started advising and helping Taeyong they had much better results. Johnny was really glad that they found each other.
Taeyong pushed him away. "Don't worry, man, I'm sure you'll find someone like that too one day."
"Pshhh, and be all sappy like you? No thanks," Johnny denied and grabbed his cup.
"Aww, you're so fucking jealous," Taeyong teased and Jhonny almost chocked while sipping his drink. He was not jealous. And he was just about to say that but Taeyong already turned away and started a new conversation.
A few (maybe few too many) drinks later Johnny was alone at the bar. The rest of the guys also scattered around and Johnny ended up alone but he didn't mind it.
He never minded the loneliness. That wasn't his thing. Taeyong was wrong. He was fine on his own. Love was too troublesome for him. Things like Iseul and Taeyong came once in a lifetime and Johnny was fine without it.
He looked around the club. Even with just a glance at some girls, he knew they could never work. There were girls that just wanted to sleep around, probably to get over their exes and accidentally spread STDs, girls who were so drunk they had no idea what they were doing (Johnny disliked those lightweights, why would you drink so much to the point of losing your consciousness if you know you can't handle it?) and the girls that just wanted money, either because they really were in need of it or because their whole life revolved around designer bags. So what was the point? The materialistic part isn't really a problem, Johnny has more then he needs anyways and like hell that he wouldn't spoil his girl rotten if he had her, but just having money is not enough to build the kind of relationship he wanted. Plus, those girls most definitely couldn't deal with being a girlfriend of a mafia member. Because while that life might seem luxurious on the surface, and is to some extent, the reality of it was much grimmer then most could ever imagine.
His gaze fell on one girl across the bar. He could see what she was doing even from afar. Poor guy next to her never stood a chance. He watched her put on a show: fix her dark hair, lean into the guy giving him a good look of her cleavage, licking her cherry red lips, innocently blinking her dark eyes at him, shyly laughing at every joke he made and slowly getting what she wanted. And eventually leaving with it: his wallet and Rolex.
Johnny found it extremely amusing. He pitied the guy, but not really. He got what he deserved being so wasted.
Johnny ordered another drink and watched the girl walk around the club, obviously scanning the place. The bartender gave him his drink and Johnny looked away from her, but from the corner of his eye, he could see her coming closer to his side of the bar. He smirked to himself, careful so that she can't see it and fixed his suit. He glanced at his own wristwatch, a Piguet, and saw her stop and stare at the people next to him. He felt her gaze lock onto him and he knew she started walking towards him.
He picked up his drink and slowly took one sip. She sat on the stool next to him as he put down the now empty glass. He turned to her and reservedly stared at her, with just a little intrigue visible in his eyes.
She nonchalantly tilted her head and smiled at him.
"Hey," she giggled.
"Hi, there," Johnny replied, his lips pressed into a thin line. He was trying not to let her in too easily. But he threw that thought trough the window when she smiled at him again, showing off her dimples. "I'm Johnny." He reached his hand for a handshake and she gladly accepted it. "Lexi."
He gave her a surprised look. "Rare for some else to also have an English name. Are you also half-American?"
"Half-British actually."
At a closer look, Johnny could see some foreign features on her.
"You grew up there or?"
"We constantly moved between here and there ever since I was born. Stopped once I was 15."
"How come?"
"My dad died," she shrugged.
"Oh... I'm sorry, my condolences, I didn't know—"
"No, no, it's okay. I got over it long ago." Johnny awkwardly smiled. He wasn't sure if he should trust her, she seemed really honest but he already knew what she wanted. So why would she be sincere?
"But you could buy me a drink tho?" she tried to bring the mood back up.
Johnny had no choice but to oblige. They clinked their glasses after they got them and casually chatted.
He had a fun time with her but the whole time he was perfectly aware of her actions and movements. The way she almost incidentally touched his wrist and slipped off his watch.
"Now I wanna get a drink, just you and me," she said while laughing at one of his anecdotes. "What do you say?"
"I say you really don't take it slow." He crossed his arms and pressed his weight against the bar.
"Hahaha, I guess not. What's the point of doing that? I wanna stay up all night, but I don't wanna waste time."
"Huh," he stared at the little liquid left in his glass and gulped it down.
"So, again, what do you think?
"I think..." he got closer to her, "it should be a god damn crime..." He put his arm around her. "To look this damn fine." She nervously smiled with him, breathing a sigh of relief when he didn't do something more forward. But she gasped once her continued. "They should really lock you up, you know?" he gazed into her eyes and grabbed his watch from her jacket pocket.
He removed his arm from her shoulder and started putting his watch back on. Her eyes widened in shock and she opened her mouth but didn't have anything to say. "H-How.."
"Oh, come on. Are you really that surprised?" he questioned her.
"No one has ever caught me before."
"Really? I'm the first?" She nodded, "You're the first."
"Well... I'll take that as a compliment."
Lexi deadpanned at him. "...sure."
"Okay, now, be honest, would you actually want to go and get a drink with just the two of us?"
"Seriously? You don't care I just almost robbed you."
"You mean tried to. You only got so far because I let you."
"Oh, sure, mhm, okay," she rolled her eyes. She was not just some ditzy girl who got lucky. She was much more capable than that.
"I know you're a pro. At least you're acting like one. You look like you're from the city but you clearly didn't learn these skills here."
"Why do you think that?" she asked not giving herself away.
"A pro from around here would recognize the master."
She gave him a narrow-eyed look at that. "Just who are you then?"
He leaned closer to her. "Heard of NCT?" he whispered into her ear.
Lexi leaned back in shock. She stared at him without blinking. "You're... one of the NCT leaders?" she whispered the last part.
"In the flesh. Now, I'm guessing you need some financial help."
She stood up, "I'm not selling my body!"
"Woah, I've never said anything like that. You've got a fine body, but I'm a gentleman, okay?" Johnny put his palms up while maintaining eye contact with her. Reluctantly, she sat back down. "What I wanted to say was," he continued, "I'm not gonna press charges or anything, I'm not that petty, I'll even let you keep the stuff you took from the guy before me." Once again, she was left wide-eyed and speechless. Lexi felt almost vulnerable near him, he was reading her like an open book, but she was too intrigued by him to walk away now.
"I want to offer you a job. We need someone with talent and skill like you but also your appearance if you understand. It should be a fairly easy job for you and the pay is nothing to sneeze at."
"How much?" He motioned for her to lean in closer and whispered the amount. She barely managed to stay composed and not gape like a fish and the staggering number he told her.
"Your answer?"
"Yeah, I got time, I can do it."
Johnny grinned. "Splendid. Now, as my newest employ it's only natural I take you out for dinner. How does tomorrow sound?"
They both smirked at each other. "Sounds doable," she answered him.
"You're really not thinking this situation through," Johnny commented.
"What, is willingly being with a mobster so wrong?"
"You would be surprised how many think so."
"Damn, whit what all kinds of lame people were you hanging around with before you met me?"
He looked up as if he was trying to calculate the exact number. "I would say... Too many."
"Luckily I came," she stepped closer.
He agreed and took a step closer too, "Luckily."
At that, Lexi threw her arms around his neck, pulling him down into a heated make-out session.
The atmosphere around them grew hotter and hotter until she finally had to pull away.
"Damn," he licked his lips. "Why do you keep getting me so hot and bothered?"
"Aw, is it my fault?" she feigned guilt.
"You're so naughty." She took a step back and sent him a flying kiss. "But that's a-ok!"
"See you tomorrow Johnny!" She started walking away, but he ran after her. He caught her wrist and turned her towards him. "If you wanted my real name you should have just asked," he reached into her pocket, "no need to steal my wallet." He lifted it and then put it back in the back of his pants. "It's Suh Youngho."
"Where's the fun in that?" she mumbled. He lifted her chin and looked her in the eye. "Wanna have fun? Let's go!"
"Okay," her eyes sparkled. "I'm Kim Seulbi, by the way."
Johnny walked out of the club, still holding Lexi's hand who eagerly followed him.
He chuckled at himself. Just an hour ago he gave up on love and here he was again.
I should really learn already, he thought. And yet he still felt hopeful.
This one really was a dime, and Johnny couldn't help wanting more.
Lexi stared at Johnny's back as she tried to match his huge steps. He was really tall. And handsome, she noted.
It's been a long time since she had such a great time outside. The fact that he was a part of a mafia scared her just a little bit, but it was obvious he wasn't a threat to her — exactly the opposite, he was the one who would protect her.
And she could definitely get behind that.
As they walked into the dark night they both had the same thought:
'I'll make her/him mine."
