I: Prologue

I took out my headphones and clicked shuffle on my playlist. After a few seconds, the song started to play.

Walking from my apartment complex, I headed towards the college campus. As I walked, I started to admire the scenery around me. The colorful leaves on the trees from the autumn season matched with the light blue sky, as the early sun was rising. The sunlight shone on the reddish-brown buildings that were in front of me.

Students were also walking towards the main buildings, gathering in groups and laughing and talking. Me, of course, didn't have any friends to communicate with, but I don't mind it.

"Music is all I need," I thought to myself as I continued my path, blocking out the noise of the outside world.

After a while, I finally made it to the building. I looked around and it is crowded, as usual.

I gripped the strap of my backpack and took a deep breath. Here we go.

My chemistry class didn't start until another fifteen minutes, but I always like to arrive early to everything, because that is just who I am.

Me being 5'5, it was, how do I say it...a little hard to get through big, tall crowds, especially the ones with the athletes. As I was trying to survive, a group of football players were in front of me, not moving. Great.

Please don't embarrass yourself, Liv.

After contemplating my life decisions, I finally got the courage to tap on one of the football players shoulder. He didn't budge.

I looked around and there was no way out. Well, isn't this just my luck! The odds are never in my favor.

Let's go for Round Two. I took out my headphones and took another deep breath.

"Hey." I merely shouted. But my soft voice got drowned out by the loud hallway and the rowdiness of the players.

I tried shouting louder but they didn't hear me. I crossed my arms in annoyance. But, I didn't notice that there was someone behind me when they yelled, making me jump.

"Ayo, dickwads!" A girls voice yelled. They all turned to her, and so did I. The first thing I noticed was her light blue eyes, which shone in anger as she looked up at them. Her light brown hair, which were cut in layers, cascaded down her body. She was beautiful.

"Do you not see this girl trying to get through? Oh of course you didn't, your testosterone filled minds blinded your manners." She rolled her eyes and looked at me. "What's your name, sweetie?"

"Olivia," I muttered, looking down at my white sneakers as the football players' eyes were on me.

"Olivia. What a pretty name." I looked up as she smiled at me. Then, she looked at the guys again and her smile got exchanged with a frown, showcasing her pink lips. "Now boys, can you say sorry to dear Olivia for being such assholes?"

My eyes widened at what she said. If things couldn't get more embarrassing enough.

"You don't have to-" I started to defend, but they already started.

"Sorry, Olivia." They all said in unison. I looked up at them and met all of their gazes. My face started to get red.

"It's okay, really." I reassured them.

"Thank you for that. Now, let us through." The brunette girl said, shooing them with her hands.

Parting like the Red Sea, all eight of the football players moved aside to let me and the girl pass by. Not to mention that everyone else in the hallway all looked in awe. My face got even more red.

"Sorry about them, they think that they're the shit and rule the school, but they aren't and they don't." She scoffed.

"Thanks for that, by the way, but you really didn't have to, I would've found a way through."

The girl didn't look convinced. "Oh, really?"

Her blue eyed stare was very intense. It was hard to lie with them blaring at me. "Mm, maybe not." She started to laugh.

"I'm Fayanna, but people call me Faye."

"Olivia, but you already know that." She laughed at my little remark. We continued to walk down the hallway.

"How were you able to control the football players like that? You basically have them wrapped around your finger."

"I guess that's the perks of having the head football coach being your dad. One wrong move towards his little girl and all hell would break loose."

"I wish as was as bold as you. At least your using it towards your advantage."

She smirked. "Damn right. You don't know how many times I had them carry my things when I didn't feel like it."

I started to slowly smile. "You really are a boss, aren't you?"

"You got that right, sis!" We started to laugh. "Why haven't I've seen you before? You were here last year, right? During freshman year, like me. Are you actually a sophomore, or am I just guessing?"

"Yeah, I'm in my sophomore year. We just didn't see each other once, then started to see each other all the time after that one time."

"That is so weird when that happens! Especially to people you don't want to see..." She trailed off.

"Same," I said, trying to relate because I didn't know how to respond to that.

"So! Anyways, where are you headed?" She quickly changed the subject.

"Um, chemistry." She faked a gag.

"I hate science. It's so fucking hard and I can't with that class!"

"It's not that bad."

"But, you're like one of the smartest people in our grade, if I'm not wrong." I nodded. "And look at you! You seem like the scholar."

I looked down at myself. My big, light pink sweater was tucked in my baggy blue jeans. My hair had matching light pink clips in my blonde hair. My big, black glasses covered my chocolate eyes. With my backpack that had Hello Kitty icons on it, and my chemistry book in my arm, she had a point.

"Thanks?" I laughed nervously and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"No, no! It's cute! I didn't mean to offend you, or anything."

"It's cool, Faye." I gave her an assuring smile, letting her know I'm fine.

"Alrighty then. Nice meeting you Olivia! I gotta go to my English lecture and try not to be late again. See you around!"

"You too." I watched her walk off, but I wasn't the only one. Some guys also watched her, but for different reasons. But, I don't blame them. She's really a character, and a beautiful one too.

I made it to class with five minutes to spare.

"Good morning, Mr. Gusto," I sweetly smiled at the the teacher.

"And how are you, Miss Shane?"

"I'm good." Mr. Gusto was one of my favorite teachers. Maybe because he reminded me of my grandpa when I was younger or that he was the kindest old man you would ever meet, if you didn't get on his bad side.

I sat in the front row and placed my textbook on the desk as I got out my notebook. With my colorful pens and pencils, I was ready to go.

The bell rang as the last amount of students scrambled in.

Mr. Gusto got up and grabbed his Expo marker. "Today class, we're going to learn about intermolecular forces. And it is a big topic, so take highly recommended that you notes, which I see some students are already prepared." He gave a small smile towards me.

"So, first..." As soon he started talking, writing from my hand started to scribble onto my notebook.

What if I told you that everything that happened today was all an act?

I mean, not the school part, because I work my ass off to get good grades, or my parents would kill me.

But, all the shyness, the clothes, and everything else? Yeah, that's all fake.

Those bum asses called football players that blocked my way in the hall? I could've easily cussed them out until there was no more cuss words to say.

Now you would ask, "Why do you put on an act for others, Olivia? You should be yourself, because that's the only thing that should matter!"

And I am fucking happy being my bad bitch self. But, measures had to be taken for me to hide it. For my dignity and protection.

You'll understand why, though. Just continue reading.
