Chapter 28: Stuck Beyond Help
Letting out a tired yawn, I grabbed the bag of food from the passenger seat before stepping out the car and locking it. I stumbled my way across the parking lot as the coffee was no where close to keeping me up. I walked into the hospital and up a floor before trailing back to Ethan's room. As I walked in, I saw Kai sitting on the three seated bench that was against a wall next to Ethan's bed. They were both chatting but stopped once they saw me.
"About time!" Ethan shrieked causing me to roll my eyes. I passed the each there food to which they thanked me. "Where's Hazel?" I asked as I pulled out his fruit cup and water.
Kai reached towards a drawer and slowly pulled it open revealing Hazel who was fast asleep on a box of tissues. I shook my head and set his food up next to him.
"Hazel," I called in a soft tone. He stirred awake and let out a yawn before looking at me. "Eat up," I smiled at him before gesturing to the food that was next to him. He thanked me before slowly eating up his fruits.
I grabbed my food and sat on the bench next to Kai. I slowly ate my food but stopped midway as I felt no longer hungry.
"What's wrong?" Kai's voice came out soft and concerned. I shook my head and gave him a small smile, "Nothing. I'm just not that hungry," I admitted.
A nurse then walked in causing Hazel to run deeper into the drawer to hide since the drawer was half open. "Sorry to intrude but I'm just here to check his temperature," she smiled before walking over to Ethan and sticking the thermometer in his mouth. Ethan let out a sigh as the nurse had interrupted him from eating his food.
The machine beeped a few seconds later indicating it was done with the measurement. The nurse took it out Ethan's mouth and threw away the plastic part before jotting down his temperature on the clip board.
"Do you know when we'll be able to leave?" I asked.
She shook her head, "Sorry I don't but according to what I know, he needs to see the specialist which wouldn't be here by next week. When that's over with, I'm pretty sure he can be checked out depending on the results," she informed us. I thanked her before she left.
Hazel then came back out from hiding and started to eat his fruits again. "So, how am I going to get out of here?" Ethan asked.
"Beat me. You're the smart on here," I teased. "Haha, very funny," Ethan commented.
I gave him a small smile, "Look, we'll stay the night here and by tomorrow, I'll come up with something."
Ethan and Kai both agreed. They eat finished their food and Ethan tucked himself under his covers as he was now cold again. I watched as he slowly drifted off to sleep and Hazel did the same as well.
"You can lay down if you want. I don't mind," Kai whispered making sure not to wake up Ethan. I shook my head, "You can-"
"Freya, you've barely had any sleep these couple of days and your face is written with tiredness. Not to mention, your eyes are red," he cut me off.
I let out a sigh. I really was tired but I wanted to keep an eye on Ethan.
"He will be fine," Kai reassured me as he saw me looking over to Ethan.
I slowly nodded and laid down with my head on Kai's lap using it as a pillow. He placed his hand over me to keep me stable. I looked up and saw his head was laid back against the bench and his eyes were closed under his shades. I let out another yawn before finally drifting off to sleep.
"Freya," a fimilar voice called.
I slowly opened my eyes to see Victor in a black tux smiling down at me. I looked around to see I was in some fancy living room laying down on a couch. Looking around, I saw Kai, Ethan nor Hazel was in sight. I quickly sat up and looked over to Victor who just gave me a curious look.
He then reached over and felt my forehead. "Where's Ethan, Hazel and Kai?" I asked as I shoved his hand away.
His eyebrow rose, "Well, Ethan is in the kitchen with your mother and father. Hazel is outside playing with the bunnies and I don't know who Kai is," he spoke in an unsure tone.
"What? You hate Kai! How could you not know Kai? How did we even get here?" I frantically started to look around.
Victor let out a chuckle as if he found something amusing about this. "Mom, Freya's up," I heard Ethan shouting from the doorway. I turned to see he was dressed in a dark blue tux.
What the hell is going on?!
"We're leaving in five minutes," I could hear my mother shouting back. Ethan gave me a smile before walking away.
I looked towards Victor to see he was a bit worried. "You seem troubled. What's wrong?" he asked.
"Troubled? I seem troubled? Victor, I've never heard you use that word or talk like that before." I was now puzzled by what was going on. He just chuckled and leaned in towards me planting a kiss on my cheek before pulling away. He gave me a smile before something weird happened.
His body started to appear static as if it was some sort of television signal interference. I felt frozen in my spot as I let out a frightening gasp. The entire surround started to follow through with the same interference and between each second it did so, I could see a figure on the floor laying under a spotlight as the room was dark.
Soon everything faded away and I was in total blackness.
"H-hello?" I hesitantly called out. My voice echoed around before fading into the distance.
I heard a light being flickered on behind me along with a cold breeze rushing pass me. I slowly turned around I let out a scream as I saw my family and Victor sitting around the table in a bloodbath.
"Mom...Dad," I started to cry as I ran up to them. The more closer I got, the more visual it was to see their injures. I went to touch my mother but my hand just passed through her as if she was a projection. I did the same to my dad and the results were the same. Tears streamed down my face as I felt so helpless.
"Ethan," I called out as I started to choke on my tears. I walked over to him and saw his injures were different. Instead of a bullet to the head like what mom and dad had, he just had a rope tired around his neck as if he was choked to death.
How could this happen? Who did this?
I heard a groan coming from behind me causing me to let out a scream. Turning around, I saw Victor holding his arm which was shot. "Victor!" I shrieked as I went to see if he was okay but my hand just went right through him. "Victor!" I called in a louder voice but he didn't seem to hear me.
He just looked around the table and I could see the petrified look on his face as he looked at my parents and Ethan. Within a blink, I saw a human figure dressed in black was standing behind him. I watched as the figure turned to look my way but his face was not visible.
The person then pulled out a thin silver line which looked like a wire. He then quickly wrapped it around Victor's neck and yanked him back in the chair causing Victor to suffocate.
"Stop it!" I ordered the person as he was hurting Victor. I tried to push the figure away but I felt frozen in my spot. The person just kept their gaze on me. I looked back at Victor to see his neck was now bleeding due to the wire cutting through his skin.
"Please!" I begged bawling my eyes out. The person ignored. Victor soon stopped fighting back as he was now dead. The person disappeared and I looked around the table to see everyone I cared for was now gone. "This was all your fault," a voice whispered in a cold deep tone behind me.
Before I could turn around, a hand wrapped around my neck and I tried to pry the hands off me but I couldn't. They were much stronger than me.
"Freya! Wake up," someone spoke in a loud tone.
I opened my eyes and bolted up to see I was in the hospital room.
It was all a dream. How could it be a dream? It felt so real. I know when I'm dreaming most times but this was just different. It was to realistic and detailed. Why would I even dream about something like that so horrible?
I looked over to Kai who just had a worried look on his face. I looked towards the bed to see Ethan with a worried yet sad look as well. "Are you okay?" he asked in a soft voice.
I quickly nodded my head and wiped away my tears before getting up to wrap him in a hug. "I just had a really bad nightmare," I stated as I wrapped my arms around him and kissed the top of his head. He hugged me back and I could feel his temperature had cool down for now.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he mumbled. I shook my head, "No, it's just a bad dream. What matters is that you're here and safe," I whispered as I continued to cradle him.
I looked over to Kai who was sitting on the bench. He just gave me a small genuine smile to which I returned. After Ethan and I finished hugging, I pulled out my phone and looked at the time to see it was almost 2 in the evening. My eyes widened in shock at how long I was asleep for. It felt like just 3 hours but boy was I wrong.
"What do you want to eat?" I asked Ethan and Kai.
They both shook their heads. "We already ate. I decided to let you sleep so I went out and grab food for us. Breakfast and lunch," Kai smiled. I let out a sigh of relief and thanked him. He nodded his head and grabbed the white Arby's bag from next to him before passing it to me.
"I'm not that hungry," I softly mumbled.
Ethan then shoved me off his bed almost causing me to face plant onto the cold hospital floor. "Ethan!" I shrieked only causing him to chuckle.
"You're not allowed on this bed until you eat your food. You barely ate yesterday," he spoke in a stern tone.
"Come my child. Kai will feed you," Kai spoke in a playful tone.
I rolled my eyes before walking over to him. Getting lectured from my 12 year old brother is just a wonderful thing.
Kai pulled out a cup of fries and a burger before passing it to me. As I started to eat, the door opened with the same nurse from yesterday. As the door opened, I could see two security guards standing right outside the door.
"Why are there security guys outside the room?" I muffled out through a mouthful of fries. Everyone stayed quiet in the room and I looked towards Kai who let out a sigh, "They think were going to try and get Ethan out so they put security to stop us if we do try to," he mumbled.
How could they have known this?
I let out a laugh, "Why would we try to do that? He's sick," I commented since the nurse was in here.
Ethan hummed in response, "Hey, at least it makes it seem like I'm someone important. Just imagine someone walking by wondering this room to see two security guards right outside. They would think I'm famous or something," Ethan jokes.
Kai then burst out laughing, "Famous? More like criminal," he laughed causing me choke on my soda and the nurse herself to laugh.
"Well, at least I'll still be a somebody. Don't know about you lightning boy," Ethan scoffed.
"Pff, please! Have you seen this gorgeous face," Kai gestured to his face before shooting Ethan a smirk. "My adorableness and brains beat that face any time. Matter of fact, Hazel's butt is more gorgeous than that face," Ethan replied.
The nurse then laughed before exiting the room. We then all got serious.
"Somehow, they know about use wanting to leave. I don't know how or when they found out but we have to get out of here. I also found out that another gang is currently looking for us. When I went to get coffee yesterday, I overheard some guy talking on the phone that he saw you guys here. He didn't get to finish his call since I took him out and destroyed his phone and no, I didn't kill him. He's some where tied up in a janitors closet," Kai informed us.
I let out a groan, "We're like sitting ducks."
Ethan hummed, "Yes. I've calculated the possibility of us getting out this hospital but it's not high. It's more like 90 to 10 that we get caught. I was thinking that you use your powers but that will just cause more chaos and might even get us killed. I was going to pull the family 'fake-your-death' scenario but that would be to suspicious and think you guys had something to do with it. I can't believe I'm saying this but as for right now, I don't know how we're getting out of this," Ethan spoke with disappointment.
"Look, we'll get out of this. We just need some time to think," I reassured him.
Kai nodded, "She's right. Tonight, we'll come up with a plan."
I ate in silence as we were all now coming up with some random escape plans. Hours passed by and we came up with nothing. Kai was pacing around the room and I was laying upside down on the bench with my legs against the wall whilst Ethan was sitting Indian style on his bed with Hazel on his head.
Hazel started to chattered causing me to look at him.
"He's saying that we should just hide him. When they think he's gone they'll go on a goose chase. That's when we run," I translated Hazel's plan.
Ethan hummed in response, "It's not a bad plan excepting we're not tiny like you," he replied in a obvious tone. Hazel didn't take his attitude light considering how he slapped Ethan on the forehead.
I watched as Ethan became a bit pissed off. "Behave you two. Don't make me come over there," I glared at both of them. They both calmed down and honestly I don't blame them for their tone or action. This was now stressing us out.
I wanted to text Victor but I knew this wasn't the sort of emergency he was talking about and even if he came to the rescue, he couldn't be able to get us out. I wonder if he even knows it was Ethan who hacked his computer.
Hack...
"I got it!" I shouted as I stood up causing them to look at me. "Okay, you can hack so just hack into the hospital's system and just change your medical report and put yourself on release," I suggested.
Ethan started at me for a few before forming a huge smile on his face. "That could work but there's one problem," I indicated causing Kai and I to groan, "I need a laptop. This isn't some phone hacking thing," he explained.
"Great. Where are we going to find a laptop," Kai huffed in defeat and just like that, our plan was flushed down the toilet.
I looked at the time to see it was almost 7 o'clock in the evening. "Okay, I'll go grab us some Chinese and we'll come up with something else. Hazel I'll get you some vegetable dumplings and what do you guys want?" I turned to look at Kai.
"Shrimps with white rice," he spoke. Ethan nodded, "I'll have the same."
"Kai, maybe try to find a laptop that a patient has or someone in the waiting room. And you two," I glared at Ethan and Hazel, "Behave," I ordered. They both nodded and I walked out the room. As I walked down the hall, I could feel the security guards glaring at me from behind.
Ignoring their stares, I walked to the elevator, down the lobby and out to the parking lot before getting into the car. I pulled up the Chinese Restaurant location on my phone and called their number to place my order. They offered to delivered the food but I declined the offer since I wanted some fresh air and the drive would do me some good rather than being stuck in the hospital room.
After I placed the order, I slowly pulled out the parking lot and drove to the Restaurant location. About 10 minutes later, I finally reached the place and stepped out the car. I waited a minute or so for the food before it was ready. I paid for it and got back into the car heading back to the hospital.
I drove into the parking lot and let out a groan or frustration as I had to park further way since some cars had filled up some of the spots. I parked my car and grabbed the food before getting out and walking back into the hospital. I passed through the lobby and took the elevator up one floor before making my way back to the room. Making my way closer to the room, I could see the guards giving me the same glare before I entered the room.
As I walked into the room, I saw about 4 nurses standing around the room and one doctor standing next to a pissed off Ethan. As I looked at the doctor, I noticed immediately it wasn't Dr. Tarzin. It looked to be a young guy in his late 20's. His hair was light brown and his eyes was dark blue. His body structure was buff and he was much more built than Kai.
I looked over to Kai who just shook his head with a shades. Even though he was across the room, I could see he was tense and sometime was clearly wrong as now Ethan was now arguing with this doctor.
"What's going on?" I asked a bit confused as I walked in and set the food on the table.
The doctor turned around and gave me a smile but it looked to be a smirk.
"Hello, I'm the specialist, Dr. Smithy," he chirped.
My eyebrow rose in confusion, "I thought you couldn't make it until next week?" I questioned.
He nodded his head, "Yes but my patient got better so I had time to come over here for this young sport. Sadly, I looked at his records and he's going to have to go through immediate surgery due to the infection in his intestine."
I looked around the room at all the nurses who were all guys. I could see pieces of their jeans and a white or black shirt peeking out from under their scrubs. I looked back at the doctor and saw he was also wearing jeans and a black shirt under his white coat. My eyes flickered to Ethan who was behind him.
Ethan slowly lifted his hand and scrunched his chest where his heart was before eyeing the doctor. I glimpsed at the doctor's chest and my heart dropped as my brain was processing what I saw.
The name tag read Dr. Tarzin.
