Chapter 20: Apologies and Energy
"Get your ass back here! I'm not talking to you!" he shouted as he marched behind me.
"To bad because I'm done talking to you," I scoffed as I walked down the hall.
He let out a groan of annoyance, "You can't just break the window and expect me to do nothing."
"I don't expect you to do nothing. I expect you to shut up and go such some dick," I hissed causing some of the students to gasp in the hallway. I rolled my eyes, "Fuck off," I shouted at them causing them to quickly look away.
I burst through the lunchroom only causing a hand to grab me. I looked to see it was Victor who was intently staring at me. "Why are you so bitchy all of a sudden?" his voice came out deep causing shivers to run down my spine.
I snatched my hand out of his grip. "Because you're heartless and happen to fit the definition of being an asshole," I fired back as I walked further into the living room. Looking around, I saw Ethan across the cafeteria who was throwing away his empty tray. I started to walk over but came to a halt when Victor stepped in front me.
I rolled my eyes getting ready to walk around but his hand held me by the arm. "I don't know what's gotten into you but-"
"Shut up," I cut him off.
I watched as his eyes turned eye cold as he released me. "See, this is why no one cares about you," he hissed with a smirk.
Rolling my eyes again, I walked around him and made my way to Ethan. As I walked pass some of the tables, I saw Kai sitting in with Hannah's group since he was with Alice's friend. I'm pretty sure they are a thing or something. It honestly hurt a little considering what happened at the party and he knew how they treated Ethan and I.
I glimpsed over to him to see him looking at me with a frown as he trailed over my body. I tend realized he was looking at my bruised up body. Letting out a sigh, I continued to walk towards Ethan. He then spotted me in the distance and quickly grabbed his stuff before making his way towards me causing me to stop and wait for him.
"This proves my point," Victor mumbled causing me to turn and look at him. My eyebrow rose, "Your point?" I questioned.
He nodded with that stupid smug look on his face, "Yes, your parents simply don't care to take care of you because you're an absoulte bitch. I mean, this is why no one likes you. They should've just aborted you," he spoke it a laugh.
I felt tears threatening to spill. That was a low blow...Even for someone like him.
I stared at him to see his laughter was dying down as he realized what he just said. "Oh my God, Freya, I didn't -" he took a step towards me but I stepped back and held my hand up.
"No, fuck you. Go fuck yourself. That was low even for you and do you really want to bring parents up into this?" I questioned as my voice cracked. He stood there in silence and I could see he was starting to become a bit nervous and afraid that I would tell everyone his story.
"See, that's the difference between you and I. I know my boundaries and I'm not going to be an asshole to get my way. I would never go so low in order to feel inferior towards someone," I mumbled.
I heard a snicker coming from Cain's table. I looked over to see Hannah looking at me as she laughed.
"Something to say bitch?" I growled as I marched towards her.
She nodded her head and stood up as I made my way in front her. Dropping my bag to the floor, I stared her straight in the face.
"You spend a week with Victor and all of a sudden you think you're all tough and macho. Truth is anyone could take you down within one hit," she challenged.
"Hannah, stay out of this," Victor warned. I turned to look at him with a glare, "No, you stay out of this," I fired back before turning to look back at Hannah, "And I'm standing right here so make your move and watch me kick your ass," I challenged.
I watched as her smirk turned into a straight line. "You don't know who you're messing with."
I took her chair and threw it across the cafeteria with one hand causing her to flinch. "Are you going to talk or fight?" I questioned.
She took there in silence and I could tell she was trying to debate with this. A hand gently held my hand and I looked to see it was Ethan who was pissed off himself.
"She's not worth the time. Let just go," he mumbled. I nodded my head and grabbed my bag before turned around and walking to the exit.
"Freya, I'm,-"
"No, I shouted and I turned around to see Victor was still standing by the table, "Fuck you, fuck this school, fuck this town. Just fuck it. I have never been so angry and tormented in my life. This is worst than when Hannah and her ass-wipes bullied me. I don't give a flying shit if you run this town and everyone fears you and respects you but I will not. You don't deserve none of that. So go screw yourself," I shouted as I turned back around and opened the door before walking out.
"We have to leave town by tonight," Ethan mumbled as the door shut behind us. I turned to look at him as we started to walk down the hallway. "I'm not disagreeing or anything but how come tonight?"
"I'll explain when we're home," he informed me. I nodded my head.
We silently walked down the hall and out the school. As we started to walk home, we ran into Hazel along the way. I told him about us leaving tonight so he should wait by his tree for us and we will pick him us. Yes, we were serious when we said we were taking him if we ever left this town.
After about 10 minutes or so, we finally reached home. Hazel ran off and Ethan and I went inside and upstairs to my room. My car was not in the driveway which meant my parents weren't even home.
"So, tell me what happened yesterday and this morning with Victor," Ethan spoke as he sat by his computer desk. I closed my door and took a seat next to him as he started it up.
"I ended up killing 8 guys and trust me, I'm not proud of it," I mumbled.
Ethan took my hand in his, "You did it as self defense. I don't care what happens to them or what you did as long as you're okay," he stated. I wrapped him in a hug which he returned. "You're the best," I whispered.
He let out a chuckle, "Tell me something I don't know," he replied causing me to laugh.
We then pulled way and I continued to explain what happened as Ethan started to type something into his computer. "Those guys who came into the house worked for Ross as in Ross who lived next door," I informed him. Ethan stopped typing on his computer and looked at me with his eyebrow raised, "I never really expected Ross to be a part of a gang," he admitted and I hummed in response.
"Same, but after you went to hide, 3 more people came and had to take them out. After everything that happened last night, I still feel dirty," I admitted.
"As your brother and the much smarter sibling, not to brag but I can reassure you that you had no option. Statistics shows that if you hadn't use your powers, it would have been a 98 percent chance you would of died," he pointed out.
My eyebrow rose, "And the 2 percent?"
"The 2 percent is if Victor arrived in time or your fighting skills came in clutch. With using your power, it was 99.9 percent chance you would win," he continued, "The .1 percent is if Victor saved you."
I then thought for a second and let out a sigh. He did save me. Ross was about to choke me to death but Victor shot him. This means I kills 7 people technically but this still doesn't change the fact that he's a complete asshole.
"So what happened between you and Victor?" Ethan asked bringing me out of my thoughts.
I let out a huff, "He's just an asshole. I told him it was his fault. It there was no stupid deal, none of this would happen. He's just such a selfish asshole and sorry for what happened in the cafeteria and for swearing so much," I apologized.
He shook his head, "Please, as much as I wanted to see you kick Hannah's ass, she's not worth it and if it makes your feel better, you had a 100 percent chance of winning and I see why you would blame him for this," he admitted.
"Yeah, so how come we're leaving tonight?" I asked.
Ethan then typed something into his computer and a bunch of files popped up. He then opened some of them revealing some letters and bank records. "When Leo dropped me off in school early, I had time to look through Victor's files and found some interesting things. For starters, there's probably going to be a gang related war tonight. I read a recently letter he received and it was from two other gangs outside of this town. They're planning to work together to take down Victor but I don't think they will win. I looked through Victor's bank records and he spend almost 3 million on weapons and supplies. Some of the stuff are foreign and maybe nuclear to the point where it could potentially be used for torture. They also know who we are," Ethan explained as he pulled up a letter with something highlighted.
I looked closely and read it out loud. "There's no running this time Sullivan. We're coming to burn your whole town down into ashes and even that hold you captive so you can watch. If you think that isn't worst, just wait until I get my hands on that girl of yours. I did some research, Freya right? And her brother Ethan. You just started a war Sullivan. I'm giving you until Saturday to surrender and exile yourself from that town. I get everything. If you choose not to, be prepared," I read.
"Did Victor ever reply to this?" I asked.
Ethan stared at me for a second, "Um...yes," he hesitantly answered.
My eyebrow rose, "What happened?"
"Well, Victor didn't take it to polite so haunted down three of the guys from this guy's gang and shipped them in a box to his doorstep.
I felt my stomach turn upside down as if I was going to hurl. I held my stomach but nothing was going to come out since I hadn't ate yet. "I felt the same way. Be thankful you didn't see the picture. To be fair, they started it first since they killed one of Victor's guys and send him in a body bag," Ethan informed me.
"Still sickening," I recalled and Ethan nodded.
"True and but yes. I did the math and judging by the dates of these letter and not to mention, I tracked the letter and was able to hack into the guy's email and found a deadline on this day. This could only conclude one thing," Ethan sigh.
"They attack today," I filled in and Ethan nodded.
I looked over to the corner of the computer screen to see it was 1 o'clock in the evening. "What time should we leave?" I asked him.
"As soon as mom and dad come home. I don't know how we're going to explain this to them but we need to make sure they understand what's happening. Since they might be a bit hesitant, I suggest that since we already pack our bags a while ago to just pack their bags so we could all hit the road once they arrive," he suggested. I nodded my head.
We got up and headed into our parents room and started to pack their clothes along with any important documents and passports. About an hour past back and we finished packing. I then decided to call my mother find out what time her and dad would be home. The phone rang a couple of times before she answered.
"Hello Freya," she chirped with a laugh. I heard some muttering in the background but I couldn't make out the voice.
Ethan took the phone from my hand and placed it on speaker then nodded for me to continue talking.
"Mom, can you and dad please come home?" I asked but it came out more like a plead.
I heard some more laughter coming from the back. "Sweetheart, we're having lunch with Victor right now. He wants to know if we could spend the night in his mansion," she informed me.
Both Ethan and I stared at each other in shock not knowing what to say. "Mom, I'm sick and I'm throwing up. Please come home," Ethan blurted out before making gagging noises.
"Ethan, what's wrong baby?" her voice came out a bit concerned.
Great, now she's concern.
"I think I got food poisoning. Please come home. I don't feel good," Ethan fake cried. I stared at him for a few as I too was convinced for a second.
"Okay, your father and I will be home after this but it might be a while. I'll grab some medicine on the way home. Anything else you want me to grab?" she asked.
Ethan and I both looked at each other. "Maybe some pain killers," I asked since my body was still a bit sore and my leg was hurting from walking on it.
"Alright. See you then," she spoke in a stern tone before hanging up.
I stared at the phone a bit puzzled by her answer. I've never heard her sound so stern before. I looked over to Ethan who was wearing the same look. We both just shrugged it off and continued to get everything in order. We then packed up all the money we had saved up and shoved it into our duffel bag.
During the midst of this, the doorbell rang only causing Ethan and I to freeze. He then silently made his way to his closet and pulled out a baseball bat before tossing it to me. I caught it and we silently tip toed downstairs. Walking down the hall, I stopped in front the door and looked through the peeper only to sigh once I saw who it was.
I unlock the door only to see a familiar face wearing those stupid black shades.
"What do you want Kai?" I groan in annoyance.
"To say sorry and to also check on you," he replied. I went to close the door but placed his hand on it with force causing me to stop. "Just hear me out, please," he begged.
I peeked over to Ethan who glimpsed over to his watch before giving me a silt nod.
"Fine," I huffed as I opened the door and stood there staring at him.
"Well," he started off, "I want to start by saying I'm sorry about the party thing. I know it was no excuse to do that to you and I hope you could forgive me. I'm also sorry about taking so long to apologize. I was just made at something and didn't really know how to handle my feelings so I just went with Levi," he explained referring to Alice friend.
"So, let me get this straight. You were made at something and you didn't know how to react to the problem so you had intercourse with a girl?" Ethan questioned causing Kai to make a face once he said the word 'intercourse' which actually caused me to laugh.
He nodded his head, "Something like that."
Ethan looked at me before glaring at Kai. "See!" he shouted as he lifted up his hands in surrender as he turned on his heels and walked back down the hall. "This is why girls don't trust us you idiot," Ethan shouted causing me to burst out laughing.
I nodded my head as my laughter died down, "He has a point," I admitted.
"Sadly," Kai responded with a small smile
"I forgive you but now is not a great time. I have to go," I stated.
A frown took it's places on his lips. "Are you okay?" he asked a bit worried.
I nodded my head with a small smile. Should I tell him?
"Alright, text you later then," he smiled. "Sure thing," I mumbled as I went to close the door. I then stopped midway. I had to warn him. He's innocent.
"Kai," I called as I opened the door to see he was about to walk away.
He then turned to look back at me. "Yes?"
"I need you to trust me on this but ... you need to leave town before tonight hit. Just trust me please. You could come with my family and I. I'll text you when but just pack your stuff," I spoke in a soft tone before quickly closing the door.
I know I should explain more but I don't have time for that because then he will ask questions after questions. Locking the door, I ran down the hall and back upstairs only to hear a bunch of things falling to the floor coming from Ethan's room. I walked into the room to see Ethan throwing a bunch of leather books on his bed. About 3 or 4 of them.
"Kai is coming with us and what are you doing?" I asked.
Ethan got out from under his bed and dust out his clothes. "I need to show you something. It's about your nature powers," he spoke as he sat on his bed and started to open his books. I opened one of them to see some images he drew along with side notes and arrows.
"I think you have more power over nature than you have discovered. You're able to manipulate air and throw objects like last night when you started to throw those vase at that guy in Victor's office," he quickly mumble the last part.
My eyes widened, "How do you know about that? I thought you were hiding?" I shrieked.
He nodded, "I was but there was security surveillance in the sanctuary and no, I don't judge you by anything. Like I said, it was defense," he reassured me.
I hummed in response.
"Right, so this would include you have powers over telekinesis and con manipulate objects to your own strength and probably even fly," he stated causing me to laugh. "Good one Ethan," I playfully nudged him.
He kept a straight face.
"Oh, you're serious," my laughter quickly died down.
He turned to the back of his book and ripped out an empty page before crumbling it up into a ball and opening his hand so the paper ball was in the center of his palm.
"You got this. All you have to do is just focus on the element itself and it should move," Ethan encouraged me. I stared at him and he then proceed to give me an encouraging smile.
I let out a sigh, I sat across from him on the bed and looked at the paper ball. Focusing on it, I tried to move the paper ball but nothing happened. I sigh in defeat.
"No, don't do that. It just takes a bit practice. Close your eyes and maybe that might help. Breathe in and out and focus on the energy," he spoke in a soothing tone.
I closed my eyes and did as told. I breathe in and out and cleared my mind. I let myself sink into complete silence and focus. I let the energy of the room run through me and felt every source of energy. I then breathe in and out before opening back my eyes.
Looking at Ethan, I saw him staring at me a bit shock and the paper ball was no longer in his hand. "What happened?" I asked looking at him.
He then looked up and followed his trail to see the paper ball was almost touching the ceiling. "Wow," was all I could say.
"I know right but you haven't looked around," he whispered. I looked at him to see he was smiling. I then slowly looked around the room to see some of his things were floating in the air. Then I realized something. The bed was 2 feet off the ground.
"Now that's cool," his voice came out with excitement. A smile rose to my face, "Yes but...How do I put it all down?" I asked.
"Just focus the same way but on the element energy decreasing. This time try to do it with your eyes open."
I nodded my head and looked around the room. Focusing on the energy, I let it all drain out causing everything to slowly land back in place. I looked at Ethan to see the paper ball slowly floating down to the palm of his hand. Once it landed, him and I both looked at each other before squealing like little girls.
He then cleared his throat, "That will be the first and last time I squeal like that but THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!" he shouted as he tackled me with a hug. I let out a laugh and hugged him back, "All thanks to you," I chirped.
"Ethan! Freya!" I heard our mother's voice coming from downstairs.
"Coming!" Ethan shouted.
Ethan and I released from the hug and got off the bed. "Do you think they will believe us when we tell them about Victor?" I asked as we walked out his room.
He just shrugged, "Just hope and pray they do. Regardless of what they think, we have to leave. I know it sounds harsh but I doubt they would go after mom and dad. Judging by the way the letter was wrote, it's personal towards Victor so it's just mainly you and I are the ones in danger."
"This is the bad feeling we had. I just now realized you were right when you knew something was wrong," I recalled remember Ethan said something big was going to happen.
"When am I ever wrong?" he jokingly replied.
Never. He's never wrong.
