Chapter 12: Sweet and Innocent

(Pic of Victor above.)

As Art class went on, I just laid in the grass staring at the cloudy sky with my legs still wrapped around Victor's waist. Something then quickly flew across my face and then landed on my hand which was resting on my stomach. Lifting my hand up in the air, I saw it was a butterfly. Not any butterfly but Flutter.

She greeted me and I mouthed a 'hello' to her. I smiled as she started to crawl around my fingers and I giggled at how ticklish it felt. Within a swift move, Victor turned around and I let out a squeal as he pulled me up from the grass. I looked up to see him with a smirk on his face as he looked down. I followed his eyes and saw he was smirking at how close we were and my legs were still wrapped around him.

I rolled my eyes and looked down to see Flutter was still crawling around my hand. I looked back up to see Victor was looking down at my hand and his features seemed to softened a bit.

"Give me your hand," I softly spoke as I stuck out my hand for his. He's eyes landed on mine and he shook his head, "I'm good," he spoke clearly mocking me when I told him that earlier.

I let out a sigh, "Come on," I whined causing him to chuckle a bit as he finally passed me his hand.

I gently turned his hand over so his palms were open. "If you harm her, I will punch you in the dick," I mumbled. "I think you would enjoy it better if you str-"

"Don't even go there," I cut him off before I had to gag. Flutter looked at me and I gave her a small nod before she crawled over to Victor's hand.

I looked up at Victor who was just looked at his hand in amazement. He looked like a little kid who had just held a butterfly for the first time. He honestly looked adorable.

A smile rose to his face as Flutter was walked around in his palms. "Is it your first time holding a butterfly?" I asked. He looked up at me with the same smile, "Is it that obvious?" he asked and I smiled back before nodding.

He then looked back down and so did I and we watched as Flutter kept crawling around his hand. "You said it was a 'she'. How do you know?" he asked.

I shrugged, "Instinct I guess," I lied. He hummed in response and continued to watch Flutter in astonishment.

It's somewhat sad to see Victor like this. It looks like he didn't even live his childhood properly. I mean, when his father was alive, he was a business man. Barely had enough time for his wife nor Victor himself. It must have been hard for him to not have his father around a lot.

I placed my hand on the grass and let out a soft exhale as I watched Victor played with Flutter. Focusing my powers, the wind started to blow lightly and I sent out a wave of signals.

Within seconds, butterflies were flying around us and I watched as Victor's mouth dropped in shock and looked amazed all at once. Talk about a tough guy turning so soft in the matter of seconds just by a butterfly.

Some of the butterflies landed on his hair and I pulled out my phone and quickly took a picture. He lifted his hand up in-between us and some of the butterflies landed on it. He then looked up and his eyes widened as he looked at my head. "How did you do that?" he asked not taking his eyes off the top of my head.

My eyebrow rose in confusion, "Did what?" I asked. He took his phone up and took a picture before passing it to me. I looked down at the picture and my eyes widened. The butterflies had shaped themselves into a crown on my head.

Scatter!

Within seconds the butterflies scattered and flew away. "That's totally weird," I replied trying to hide my nervous tone. I went to pass him his phone back but before he could reach it, I quickly pulled my hand away.

"Shall we see what photos you have in your gallery?" I spoke in a playful tone. His eyes widened and he reached for the phone but I pulled my hand away quickly again. I tapped on gallery and he was now trying to reach for it but he didn't succeed since my legs were still wrapped around him.

"Freya, give me the phone," he shouted. I could hear the panic in his tone as I tapped on an album. The first picture was off him in a suit. "Wow, look at you," I teased as I showed him the picture from an angle he couldn't reach. He rolled his eyes and stretched his hand out. "Give it to me," he demanded. I shook my head and continued to scroll through the pictures.

Some of the pictures were just of him then my hand stopped on one photo. It was him standing next to a lion. My mouth dropped in shock. "You have a lion?!" I shrieked as I looked at him. He let out a laugh and nodded, "I also have some snakes and some sharks," he stated.

I frowned a bit, "That illegal and they're not suppose to be house pets," I spoke a bit disappointed. He shook his head, "They're not in cages. They have their own habitat behind the house," he replied.

"Still," I mumbled as I continued to flip through the photos. His phone then rang and I looked at the caller id to see it was Cain.

"Give it," Victor demanded in a firm tone holding his hand out. I looked at the phone that was ringing then at him. "Why did you choke Ashley?" I asked causing him to tense up a little. "Reasons. Now give me the phone," he narrowed his eyes at me as he moved his fingers back and forth indicating me to place his phone in the palm of his hand.

I shook my head, "Tell me the reason then I'll give it to you." I watched as his face was now written with annoyance by me. "I'm going to warn you one last time. Give me the phone," he growled in a hush tone.

Letting out a sigh, I passed him the phone. Before he could take the phone from my hand, I hit decline on the call causing the phone to stop ringing. "Freya!" Victor shouted in annoyance.

I shurgged my shoulders and laid back down on the grass.

He let out a growl and pushed my legs off him before standing up. I watched as he glared at me then typed in something in his phone probably to call Cain back. "Get up," he ordered in a stern tone as he looked down at me.

I shook my head, "I'm good here," I smiled. He rolled his eyes and firmly grabbed my hand before pulling me up with a force.

"Let's go for a walk," he smirked as he wrapped his left arm around my shoulders and his right hand up to his ear with the phone in it. I looked over to Ethan and Kai who was just staring at me with a worried expression. I gave Ethan a small smile which he returned.

Victor started to walk and pulled me along side him.

"What do you want?....I don't care...And?" he talked on the phone as we walked off the field and were now walking around the parking lot.

He walked over to his car and stopped behind it before he releasing me. I hopped up on his trunk and sat down. Sitting there silently, I watched as he paced around in front me and kept talking to Cain. It looked like Cain had said something to piss him off considering how loud Victor had just growled again.

I honestly wonder why Victor shows me any mercy or treats me nice. He always saw me as the 'Freak' just like everyone else in this town. He has always hated me and treated me horrible up until now. I mean, he still treats me horrible, just not as much as before.

Victor shouted in the phone swearing at Cain a little then stopped in front me. I looked at his face to see his jawline was tightened and his eyes were filled with rage. He then turn his back to me and swear some more into the phone. I looked down his back and my eyes landed on the hem of his shirt. I slowly reached forward and lifted up his shirt a little to reveal the pistol.

Reaching for the pistol, his hand quickly grabbed mine and swatted it away from his shirt. He then lifted up his shirt and shoved his hand under before pulling out the pistol. He then turned on his heels and looked at me before setting it down next to me. He then turned back around and continued to talk on the phone. I looked at the back of his head then at the pistol which was sitting on the trunk next to me.

I hesitantly picked it up. As I picked it up, I felt chills going down my spine. I looked back at Victor who still had his back turned to me. I looked at the pistol then back at him. All it took was one shot. One movement and my problems would either end or start. Killing Victor would just trigger a war between this town and I. I wanted my problems to disappear but I don't want to become a killer.

I gently set the pistol back down on the trunk and looked at Victor to see he was still on the phone. My eyes landed on his neck where the scar was noticeable. It stretched down his neck and disappear under his shirt.

"We'll talk tonight," he spoke into the phone before hanging up. He let out a heavy sigh causing his shoulders to slouch. He then slowly turned around and grabbed the pistol from on top the truck and shoved it back under his shirt in his sweats. I looked at him in confusion. He didn't give me a glance or questioned me.

"How come you're not surprised?" I asked as he shoved his phone in his pocket. He looked up at me with a monotone look, "Surprise you didn't shoot me?" he asked and I nodded my head. "Freya, you don't even hurt a fly. Even if you knew how to use it, you wouldn't because that's how innocent you are. Now hop off the trunk. I got to go," he spoke in a firm tone.

I stared at him trying to find my words. He actually knew me.

"Freya, please, I don't have time for this," he spoke a soft tone. "What gave you that scar behind your neck?" I found myself blurting out. His lips went to a straight line and I could tell he was upset by my question. He just walked up towards me and took me off the trunk before setting me down on the ground.

"Look, I'll talk to you later. Take care of yourself and try not to piss me off by causing any trouble," he mumbled before walking to the driver's side.

I held both my hands half way up besides me in confusion. "That's it? You're just going to leave?" I sheirked. He let out a sigh and turned on his heels before walking back to me.

His hands held the side of my face and his bent down and planted a kiss on my forehead before turning back around and hopping into the car. I watched as the he took off and drove off school property.

"You are a confusing man Victor," I mumbled to myself.

"No kidding," a voice came next to me causing me to jump and scream all at once. Almost having a heart attack, I held my hand up to my heart and turned around to see it was Ethan and Kai.

I glared at Ethan who was just laughing but Kai on the other hand, Kai looked a little mad. "Could you not scare me to death and how long were you there?" I asked as my heart started to steady it's beat.

Ethan opened his mouth but instead was cut off by Kai. "Long enough to know you could of shot him," Kai hissed.

I looked up at him a bit shocked. "You honestly think I would kill him?" I replied baffled.

He nodded his head, "Yes but you're to busy playing kissy face," he scoffed causing my mouth to drop in shock.

"Okay, Kai, let me just run through as to why she didn't kill him. One being if she would of shot him, we would be successfully hunted down and killed. We wouldn't even make it out of town alive. Two being how powerful he is. Three being how Freya is not a killer and four being it was a test," Ethan explained to him.

"What?" I questioned his last reason. Ethan's eyebrow rose, "You didn't know it was a test?" he questioned. I shook my head and his mouth formed an o-shape. "Yeah, when he came back into the cafeteria after he left with you, I saw him unloaded the gun and disarm it," he stated.

"Where was I? How come I didn't see this?" Kai asked.

Ethan let out a sigh, "You were to busy looking at Ashley who was trying to maintain her balance," Ethan then turned to look at me with a grin, "Nice punch by the way," he commented. I grinned back, "Why thank you little brother," I chirped as I ruffled his hair only for him to swat my hand away.

"No kidding. Those were some good punches," Kai smirked. "Thanks," I gave him a small smile. He nodded his head and pulled out the car keys from his pocket, "I'll drop you guys home and pick you up later for the movies," he stated. Ethan and I nodded before following him to his car. Hopping in the passenger's seat, Victor's scar then flashed through my head.

"Hey Ethan, you ever seen anyone who actually took down Victor or hurt him at least?" I asked as the car started. There was a moment of silence before he spoke, "No. Whoever tried to even lay a finger on him would be killed either way. Why do you ask?"

I sat back in my seat as I thought about it more. "No reason. It's just I saw a huge scar on his neck but it looked like it continues down his back," I stated.

Ethan hummed in response from the backseat, "That's strange. Even if someone did hurt him, the whole town would of known," he mumbled and I silently agreed.

The drive home was filled with casual conversation. Within 15 minutes, Kai pulled up in front our driveway and I saw my car was here meaning my parents were home. I let out a sigh knowing they would either be wasted or ...well there's no 'or' in this case. Ethan and I thanked Kai for the drop and we slowly walked up to the entrance door.

"Kai told me what happened last night. I'm sorry you had go through that," Ethan spoke in a soft tone causing me to stop in my step and turn to look at him. He stopped walking as well but kept his head down and his hands in his pocket.

"My precious little brother," I replied as I pulled him in for a hug only for him to quickly hug me back. "You don't have to be sorry about anything. None of this is your fault and you shouldn't be apologizing for any of this. It's all going to be okay," I reassured him. He hummed in response before we broke away from the hug.

Opening the door and walking inside, the smell of alcohol hit my nose. Letting out an aggravated groan, Ethan and I walked down the hall to the stairs. As we made our way to the stairway, I saw the living room light was on. Walking over to the living room, I saw my mother was passed out on the couch. My father was also passed out with the t.v on.

"Sometimes I think that we're the adults rather than them," Ethan whispered in a hush tone to me. I turned to looked at him to see he was staring at them with a bit of sadness. My heart broke a little as I knew he wished they were different. We both turned on our heels and quietly walked up the stairs and into our rooms.

Ethan closed his door and I closed mine as well. Pulling out my phone, I texted Kai.

Me: Come an hour early. Like at 6. We'll eat before we go

A few seconds passed by and my phone vibrated as it received a message from him.

Kai: Alright. See you then

I then pulled up the Domino's App on my phone and placed an order for 3 large pizzas with pepperoni and a huge order of hot wings and 2 bottles of soda. After confirming the order, I grabbed my towel and headed to the bathroom. Turning on the shower, I stripped from my clothes and hopped in.

As I showered, I couldn't help but think of Victor. He was being over sweet and I couldn't help but wonder if it was real or just a game. When I asked him about the scar, he seemed to have become a bit sad as he recalled some memory. At first I thought it would be from when he got struck from lightning but it looked like a scar that he received years ago. It wasn't fresh.

I then thought about how he almost killed Ashley. Although I wanted to kick her ass some more for all the torture she has put me through, she didn't deserve to die. I also didn't understand why Victor would give me a pistol with no bullets. Was it just some type of loyalty test like Ethan said. It also bothered me how nice he was treating me. It was really scaring me but maybe he's finally changing. What if this is what it takes to change Victor but then again, I can't expect too much from him. He still is a killer and killer's don't automatically change over the night.

Turning off the pipe, I got out the shower and dried myself before walking into my room. Going to my closet, I took out a pair of ripped jeans and a crop top with a hoodie. Slipping into it, I looked at the time to see it was now 3 o'clock. I combed my hair and walked out my room and stood in front Ethan's door.

Lifting my hand up, I knocked on his door twice and waited for an answer.

"It's open," his voice shouted from inside the room. I opened the door to see he was buttoning up his short sleeve shirt. I walked in his room and shut the door behind me before walking to his bed and crashing on it.

"I ordered pizza. It should be here by 6 or so," I muffled into his blanket. The bed sink next to me and I turned my head to see he was sitting on the bed giving me a serious look. "Can I ask you something?" he asked in a concerning voice.

"Don't you always?" I teased only for him to reach behind him and grab a pillow before hitting me in the face with it. I let out a chuckle and nodded, "Ask away."

"I see the way you look at Victor. Like when you were staring at him during art class, you looked at him as if there's hope into changing him. Is that true?" he asked with his eyebrow raised. I let out a sigh, "Yes," I slowly mumbled.

He slowly shook his head, "Freya, I love you with all my heart but don't," he spoke in a firm tone. My eyebrow furrowed at his statement, "What?" I asked as I sat up.

"Look, I mean well but there is no hope for Victor. Trust me on this but he is never going to change. I know you think he's all nice to you and that must be some sort of sign but it's not. I can just only warn you to be careful around him. I've never seen Victor act this way around anyone before considering the way he acts around you. It's both interesting and scary because you can't tell what may happen. The way he looks at you, I can tell he's hiding something. I also acknowledged that he does not call you freak. Instead he calls you by your name," Ethan paused a moment before continuing to talk, "Freya, when was the last time Victor acted like his true self? When was the last time you heard him kill for fun?" Ethan asked.

I thought about it for a second and slowly shook my head, "A while now. This is the first week in years that this town was actually quiet....This means-"

"Something big is going to happen," Ethan slowly filled in the rest of my sentence.
