Biting Nails
"We have a family cabin up in the woods. Remember, in the mountain we went hiking on last summer?"
"Oh yeah. Those were some good times." Kirishima smiled, leaning on the table, wet hair falling into his face. It was strange seeing him without that stupid spiked hairdo, even after all the time Bakugou had known him.
"Nobody's gonna bother you up there. If I give you the keys, will you be able to make it up on your own?"
Kirishima stared at him like he had said something completely outrageous. Bakugou couldn't understand it. He was giving the guy everything he possibly could at the moment. This was more than he would do for anybody else.
"Maybe. I dunno."
"Kirishima, I can't leave the house right now, otherwise I'd walk you up.
The redhead, who wasn't technically a redhead, heaved a sigh filled with all his frustration. "What am I going to do about food? And doesn't that place have an outside bathroom? What if I need to pee in the middle of the night? I could get attacked by an animal."
"There's a chemical toilet under the bed for that. I can give you a bit of food for now, but you're either going to have to hunt or come back to buy something."
Kirishima still didn't look convinced. "And what if something happened to me? I won't have a phone. Plus, I can't buy stuff because I don't have money."
Bakugou groaned. "Look, I'm doing the best I can. Do you think you can survive for a week until I can make it up there to help out?"
Kirishima considered this. "Okay. A week. I think I can manage."
"Are you okay, though? Your fucking parents kicked you out. That's gotta be rough." Even somebody as emotionally short circuited as Bakugou could tell that this wasn't the time to be his usual abrasive self.
Even though he didn't show it, this shit had to be hard on him.
Hell, if he was this good at hiding his pain now, how many times had he hidden similar pains from Bakugou? This damn kid was always so cheerful, even when the world was crashing down on him. How long had be been living with this, and how had Bakugou not noticed before.
Fuck, he was a bad friend.
"It hasn't really sunk in yet." Kirishima shrugged. How could he just shrug off his entire life changing like that. He was homeless now, and he had no money, no phone, no way to travel. He was hopeless and Bakugou didn't know how to handle it.
"Do you think you could send Mina to get your things? You at least need clothes and a bit of cash wouldn't hurt either."
Kirishima considered this for a moment.
"I suppose she could break in through my window and grab some stuff when nobody's home."
"There you go. That's one problem solved. I'll let you call her on the house phone." Bakugou handed the device to his friend then stepped out of the room to grab the cabin keys.
He honestly, and uncharacteristically worried for Kirishima. If Bakugou had been in a similar situation, he didn't know if he would be able to keep a cool head. He likely wouldn't have considered turning to a friend, especially not one as far away as Kirishima, and he especially wouldn't have taken the help that he was giving right now.
But most of all, he doubted that he would be smiling.
Kirishima was strong, stronger than any other person his age. But no matter how strong he was, Bakugou knew he wouldn't be able to hold it together forever, and when he finally broke apart, the blond knew he needed to be there to pick up the pieces.
