28- It was all supposed to be a fiction

Neer had made it rain on the particular spot they all were standing, dousing them all and getting rid of the sweat and stench.

Ahana moved around uncomfortably as it was a little itchy.

Sameera had blow-dried their clothes along with themselves with her power later on, but it still felt uncomfortable. The clothes were now washed off, they didn't even smell, but they had been wearing them for so many days. And unlike Avan they couldn't even remove them while showering. After all, the road had its limitations.

"We could have at least removed the shirts," Gyaan grumbled, as he dealt with the same problem as Ahana.

"That would have been unfair to the ladies," Neer spoke in a slight irritated tone, before mumbling under his breath, "And I would rather die than have you undress before my sister's eyes."

"Aunty, my clothes are still half wet," Avan said with a pout, putting his t-shirt back on the stone.

"It takes time to dry, dear. And I can't even use more force or else the clothes will fly away," Sameera replied.

"Didi, can you give some warmth to them? It will also give the effect of ironing," Avan asked with hopeful eyes, as he wanted to put back his clothes now. It seemed weird standing on the road only in his underwear.

"Maybe. I am not sure, but I can try," Ahana said with a shoulder shrug.

"No no, don't do it if you are not confident. We don't have money to buy new clothes if you end up burning these ones," Gyaan said immediately.

"Oh really! Then I shall practice it on you first. Who knows if my luck is soaring and you too burn away along with clothes," Ahana said with a lopsided smile, as she took a step towards him.

"Her smile is more dangerous than her anger," Gyaan muttered, before raising his hands in surrender, shouting of his apology, "Sorry for doubting your talent, miss Excellency," he even did a small bow, exaggerating his apologeticness.

Ahana bursted out laughing at his antics, while others giggled at the scene. Gyaan too had a small smile on his face, as he was back to his original standing position.

The small happiness on everyone's faces felt like a dream that came true after a very long time.

Later Ahana closed her eyes to limit her energy and only gave out heat instead of fire. It worked in the very first try, making Ahana raise her invisible collars and look smugly at Gyaan.

"If you could do the honours on us too," Gyaan said, pointing towards their clothes.

"Are you sure about taking the risk?" Ahana asked with raised eyebrows, before laughing out when she saw his scared face, "Just kidding," she said, before moving to help each one of them.

They had showered, they had eaten and they had rested, and now it was time to see that telecast. Well they didn't know the exact time, but the sky had darkened, and Gyaan made a guess according to his knowledge of what time it must have been.

Donning their masks, they walked towards the shop they had seen the news before. Finding different spots, they all hid in a way that they could still see the television without coming into notice of the shop owner.

Although they were wearing masks, they all could look suspicious if the five of them went there together. They weren't even of the same age to look like friends or colleagues who went to smoke together, not to forget about the small child with them. Bringing him there was like knowingly walking into a death trap.

Ahana and Neer had hid behind the pillar of the building that was next to the building where the shop was located. Gyaan was hiding alone behind a pole, acting like he was waiting for someone, while Sameera and Avan were sitting at the nearby bus stop. Avan acted like he was playing around, so Sameera could look behind at the T.V by acting like she was keeping an eye on the child.

"Why the hell is he playing the music channel?" Ahana whisper-shouted, "what if we miss the news?"

"Maybe the news is already done and over with," Neer said with a sigh.

Ahana hit his shoulders, causing him to fall out from the hiding, before he swiftly moved back. "The pillar isn't that large," he whisper-yelled at her, before mumbling, "shouldn't have hid together," earning a whack at the back of his head.

"I can hear you, you idiot," Ahana muttered, before looking over to the place Gyaan was hiding.

"Do something," she mouthed, making weird hand actions.

Neer pulled her hands down instantly, "Stop it, before he gets a wrong idea."

"Why would he?" Ahana asked with a snort. Her twin was acting weird for some reason. "Is there something you know that I don't know?" She asked curiously.

"Just don't go alone with him again," Neer said quietly.

"We...we weren't doing anything that you are implying," Ahana muttered, looking at him in bewilderment. She hadn't seen Neer liking like that ever. The over-protectiveness came out as a shock. It was usually Ahana who was overbearing and protective twin while Neer was the cool, laid back twin.

"I wouldn't know that now, would I? After all, none of you are opening your mouths about where you two were," Neer said, snorting angrily, before mumbling, "how can I forget him carrying you in his arms like his life depended on it?"

Ahana huffed, having heard everything because she was so near.

"Think whatever you want. I am not explaining anything when there is nothing. How can you even think that something is going on between me and that...that...," she trailed off, making a yuck face.

"Just tell what you two were doing that you couldn't involve us, and I will stop thinking that," Neer said.

"You—" Ahana started, but stopped when she saw that news channel was on. "We will deal with this later," she said to Neer, before focusing on the T.V., and Gyaan who stood there acting as a customer.

"I hope he doesn't try to smoke just to make his pretend game more real," Ahana muttered, as she watched Gyaan play with the cigarette pack.

"Worried for his lungs?" Neer taunted, adorning the fakest smile known to mankind.

"He will have to remove his mask if he tries to smoke. Our cover would be blown," Ahana answered with gritted teeth, glaring at Neer. He was getting on her nerves now.

"Look, the news started," Neer said abruptly, thanking the stars to give a reason to get away from Ahana's anger.

However, his thankfulness didn't last long.

"I didn't...I didn't harm anybody," he stammered as he looked at the news playing on T.V. As he looked over the clip that showed how Neer caused a vast destruction using his power.

Neer stood there standing with an evil smirk as he destroyed the entire fields of crops by flooding them with massive water flow. He even drank away the entire dam, causing so many villages to die out because of lack of water. If this wasn't enough, Neer made all the water fluids inside the man disappear, causing the only person who tried to fight him, die a merciless death.

"This isn't real, this isn't real," Neer rambled in shock as he fell down on the ground. His legs had given away upon seeing what was being telecasted.

"Neer, Neer," Ahana called out as she knelt before him, trying to shake him out of his stupor.

"Ahana, I didn't...I am not a destroyer...," he mumbled in a far away voice, "Guys I didn't harm anybody," Neer said with urgency when he saw Gyaan, Sameera and Avan join them.

"I swear....," Neer choked in his voice, but still didn't stop speaking. He had to make sure that they knew...that they knew..that he wasn't a bad person.

"Neer calm down," Gyaan said, holding his shoulders as he saw Neer swaying.

"We know Neer, we know," Sameera assured as tears ran down her eyes as she saw his condition.

She turned away to hide her face as she couldn't handle seeing her first supporter breaking down like this. Neer had been her first friend after getting her freedom. Her biggest supporter, who stood by her side when she had no one. She couldn't see him like this.

"Bhaiya," Avan cried, scared by seeing Neer look like that. Neer's eyes were red and weren't in focus. It also seemed like he aged in a few seconds. His face was so ghastly. The sight was so scary. Avan would have run away if that person wasn't his Bhaiya.

"I didn't....I didn't harm," Neer choked again while speaking.

"Neer, stop it, we know," Ahana yelled, pulling him by his shoulders so that he could see her believing eyes. Alas! his eyes never looked at her.

Just as Ahana pulled him up, Neer's eyes rolled away and he fainted on the spot, but not before uttering in a low, broken voice,

"This was all supposed to be fiction."

Neer's body gave out as he tried convincing everyone for the last time that he was in fact innocent.
