Chapter 26: A Day of Planning
"What did you guys talk about?" I demanded as soon as Vince left the compound.
"What do you mean?" The newspaper now sat neatly folded beside my father who seemed to be enjoying the week's day off.
"Business, darling. Nothing interesting." I felt my blood boil at how easily my mother disregarded my query.
"Aren't I a part of that?" I was the sole heir to the company, the day I finished my management I was to step up and claim it from my father. I knew the Colespar industries like the back of my hand yet they chose to hide these business details from me. It made me even more suspicious of the direction of that conversation.
"You are." Dad was now looking at me, "But not yet."
"You don't need to be skeptical of us, we like Vince." Mom chimed in.
"You're telling me that in one day you have accepted a boy that set off sirens in your head? Boy, he must be quite the talker." I remarked sarcastically. Both my parents seemed ticked off by my comments and I knew I had pushed a few wrong buttons.
"Melissa. Be happy we aren't stopping you from seeing him. He is a good boy, we are regretful of our previous assumptions." He said, now crossing his arms over his chest.
"I just wish you all won't keep secrets from me." I whispered back, my head hanging down. Seeing how their next words would only hurt me more, I left to go to my room. My mother let out a futile attempt to call me back, but I could tell my dad held her back.
I sat back on the study table, pulling out my school work. Finals were lurking around the corner and I had the report to make too.
There was a knock on my door at half past twelve, I wasn't expecting any visitors.
"Hey, we came by to check on you and grab some lunch." Ella and Chelsea stood by the mahogany door with pearly whites smiles. I gestured for them to come inside, happy to see their faces.
"Thanks for coming by, guys."
"Close the book, Mel, seriously?" Chelsea said with an eye roll.
"So, what do we do?"
"Well, right now, must I remind you that you need to prepare for prom and later after the sun goes down perhaps take a dip in the pool?" Ella suggested, making my eyes go wide.
"I completely forgot about prom! I need to make all the preparations!" I gasped, a mini panic session.
"It won't exactly take too long." They shrugged, pulling out a hard bound book from a bag.
"We have the pictures of the gym and the last year prom theme, as already decided by the student council, we'll have a space adventure this time." Chelsea said, handing me the book.
I flipped through the pages and nodded, we did have a futuristic theme a few years back and I knew for a fact that our school didn't throw away those.
We got on with the planning after calling the cheer squad over and with twelve minds to work, we were done with every detail. All we needed to do was stay back and get the things in place which would take two or three days at most.
"I'm so drained." Chole slumped against the couch with a scowl.
"Me too, what time is it?" I grumbled in agreement, letting out a gasp when I counted that we had been holed in the room for over five hours. Mrs Rose had made sure we were supplied with food and beverage suiting the diet of the company.
"It's time for a dip in the pool. God, I'm so tired." Chelsea mumbled, taking off her shirt and shorts to reveal her matching purple bikini.
All the girls followed suit and in no time we all lay in the pool under the evening sun with a lemonade in hand and sighs all around.
"See you tomorrow." I said for the millionth time as the girls left at about six.
"Hey, Ella, Chel, want to stay over?" I asked taking the seat beside them.
"I would love to, but I have a few things to do, see ya!" Chelsea made an attempt to leave with that short a good bye.
"Wait a minute, does the player queen have a date? On Sunday? Wow, always thought you were the Friday kind of a girl."
"I don't know what you're talking about, I wanted to catch up with studying." Both Ella and I scoffed at that comment, I was pretty sure Chelsea didn't study for much before the time.
"Give us the deets, or you stay here and stand up another guy in your history of doing that." Ella now stood shoulder to shoulder with me blocking Chelsea path completely.
"Okay, you guys got me. I do have a date." She mumbled perhaps hoping that we didn't hear her yet we did.
"Go on." We urged in unison.
"With," She dragged.
"Yes,"
"Ryder." She muttered but that didn't lessen the blow.
"What?!" Both of us yelled out, astonished by the name reveal.
"Okay, bye!" We didn't have time to react to her, she pushed between us and sprinted out of the door before we could even blink.
"Well, that was both unexpected and predictable. I can't explain how." Ella said after several minutes.
"I completely agree." I nodded with a smile.
"I'll head out as well, early morning." Ella said after a few minutes of us just settling with the idea of our two best friends dating.
"Yeah, totally. I'll catch up with you later."
I bid her goodbye and just as she left the driveway, my phone pinged.
Hey, free now?
-Vince.
I didn't think twice before calling him.
"Almost seemed like you were waiting for my text." He chuckled, I stopped myself from melting at the spot.
"Okay, bye then." I monotonously uttered.
"No, no, wait." He struggled to catch my attention.
"Yeah, thought so." I said with a smirk.
"As I was asking, are you free?"
"Depends on why you're asking." I went up the stairs and subconsciously righted my clothes.
"Our first date?"
"I thought our first date was in a dark forest." I said after taking a few breaths.
"Our official first date." He reiterated
"Well, yes, I am free." I causally replied but only a fool could miss the giddiness in my voice and Vince was surly no fool.
"I'll see you in half an hour." He said.
"Make that one, I need to catch up on something." I would've loved nothing more than meeting up with him right at that hour but I also knew I would take more than thirty minutes to finish things off.
"Alright, see you in a while."
I cut the call before he could say anything more, not that I feared his confession but only that I would be frozen once again, not knowing what to do.
I have a couple of minutes to deal with that.

Thoughts?
I'm late on updating, that's for sure.
Love,
Rojesta.
