Chapter 3
“What happened?” I say as I try to sit up on the bed. Libby sat in one of the chairs watching TV when she saw I was up. “Look who’s up.” She says in a happy cheery voice getting up to greet me. “Libby please tell me what happened.” I say trying to her to talk. “Well, you started freaking out and your Mom called your Dad and he said to give you some kind of medicine to calm you down and then you passed out.” She tells me trying to leave out the part of her freaking out too. “Oh, is that all?” I say with sarcasm. “Oh and your Dad is here.” She says with a laugh and goes back to watching TV. I get up and slowly head to the door; I open the door to the large room. Mom and Dad are sitting at the small kitchen table. Emily stands behind Dad. As I walk closer they become quiet. “Hey Dad.” I say glumly. I feel a knot in my chest as I talk to him, My Dad and I were really close and never hid secrets from each other but now that peace, that trust, is gone. “Hey Sweet Pea, how are you feeling?” He asks me while feeling my head for my temp. “Better actually.” I say with a fake smile. I look at my Dads eyes to see the color, in the dream they were purple, in real like they are a plain brown. I smile and keep staring wondering if the same thing that happened with Libby will happen again, I stare deep into his eyes looking for answers when…
I am standing on a hill of flowers, A little boy comes running over the hill screaming, he looked terrified as he ran passed me yelling. “Fire! Fire! Run for your life!” I walk up the hill a few steps to see the horror seen he had ran from. People ran like little ants running for cover from the rain, but it wasn't rain they were afraid of. A huge wave of fire rolled across the land killing people as it spread. I spot a family barely escaping the flames, they head up the hill to where I stand; the family looks strangely familiar as I stare at each of them trying to remember where I had seen them. The dad had neon green eyes, and stood as tall as my dad, a little girl stood beside him hanging on for her life, she looked scared as she held tight as he walked, the mother had neon eyes just like the dad, and she carried a small baby in her arms. I step closer to see the baby, right when I saw him I recognized him right away, the baby is my father! I look at his purple eyes and stared in shock at the sight of my father, my father as little baby. I step back when I start hearing voices in my head, screaming my name into the air around me. My legs go numb making me fall to the ground, the voices got louder and started to hurt my ears, I scream in pain but I know nobody can hear me…
“River it’s your father please I need you to calm down.” Dad says while shaking me. “River you need to calm down.” He repeats again. I can feel my heart racing when I open my eyes. I take deep breaths to calm down and my heart slowly beats normally. “I need to teach you how to control that before it gets worse.” Dad says to me when he sees I am ok. “Control what? The visions or the dream?” I ask him wondering if he will mention the dream or if I need to remind him. “Both.” He says with a smile, and I get up off the floor. “So, whats with the visions?” I ask him when he sits back down at the table. “You’re not ready to hear it yet sweet pea.” He says turning around in his seat to face me. “Not ready? What do you mean I'm not ready?” I ask him trying to control the anger building up in me. “We have to wait till after your birthday…like your dream told you.” He says hesitating on the last part. “Like my dream TOLD me?” I say raising my voice on the word told. “Yes and I'll explain everything then I promise.” He says holding his pinky up, I walk away because I'm done being treated like an eight year old. I head back into my room; I open the door hitting Libby in the face. “LIBBY!” I scream her name, I help her up and walk with her to the couch. “Serves you right for spying on me.” I say trying to make her laugh, it works. "So what did your dad say?" Libby asks when she stops laughing. "Nothing, he said we have to wait till after my birthday." I tell her not looking at her at all. "are you ok?" She says noticing somethings wrong. "Yes Libby something is wrong, my Dad, the one I trust the most...not counting you because your awesome, is keeping a the most biggest secret from me and for how long has he lied to me about it? And he didn't tell me when I started having dreams which makes it worse because I thought I was some big weirdo all my life!" I yell at her. "Calm down River, he probably has a reason not to tell you. Tell me has your Dad ever hurt you? Or did anything to make someone else hurt you?" She asks me calmly. "N-no...I guess not." I calm down and sit down beside her. "River your Dad loves you and would do anything for you and the only thing he's doing is protecting you so let him." She says. "Libby, I'm sorry I guess I didn't think about it that way." I stand up and walk to the door without another word. "What are you doing?" Libby asks getting up to come by my side. "I know he's trying to protect me but I feel that I'm not doing enough, ya know?" I say quietly while opening the door slightly. "I'm with you all the way Bestie!" Libby says with her girly voice.
Mom- What are we going to do?
Dad- I don't know, hope she doesn't want to find her I guess.
Mom- And if she does?
Dad- The worst will come
Mom- How are we going to keep them apart?
Dad- We run.
Mom- For how long?
Dad- As long as we can.
I step back and close the door when they are finished. "What are they talking about? Who is SHE? Libby asks me like I have all the answers. "That's what I want to know." I answer her back, not the best answer but its all I got, for now. I open the door just in time to see them both walk out the door leaving us here alone. "Grab your bag Libby." I tell her while slowly walking out the door being careful not to make noise. Libby comes out the door a minute later not making a sound. "What are we doing?" She asks me. "What do you think we are doing? I'm finding out who SHE is with or without their help." I tell her. "Fine." She says giving up on asking questions. I move close to the door that goes outside when I hear voices coming from outside. "Shoot! They are standing by the door." I say quietly. "How are we going to get outside now?" Libby comes behind me scaring me. "There's more than one way to get out of here." I say looking back at the balcony. "Are you insane! We are on the third level you idiot!" Libby yells at me. "Is the room beside us vacant?" I ask her ignoring her yelling. "I didn't she anyone, what are you thinking?" She asks me while I quietly go over to the sliding door and open it. "Nothing." I say. I grab Libby's hand and drag her to the side where the vacant balcony is and climb over the fence. "You know there's a reason they put the fences on here right?" She says while I help her over. "What? Are you scared?" I tell her. "No!" She yells back. I put my feet up to the ledge and hold on while I inch across the small gap between the two balcony's and quickly grab the fence on the other side pulling me to the vacant area, Libby does the same. "Your insane." Libby says poking me in the side. "I know." I say with a smile. I make my way across the room and open the door to peek outside, I get a quick glimpse of Mom and Dad going back inside. "We got out just in time, a minute later and we would have been caught." I say turning to Libby to tell her. I open the door wide open, Libby slip's through right when I open it and so do I, letting the door shut behind me. Well this is it, there's no turning back now.
