Chapter 7 Nate

I picked this place for a few reason. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was on the romantic side but not overly so. The last was because their food portions were great. With my metabolism I had to eat... a lot. So far the dinner was going great. Our conversation flowed. The wine went perfectly with our meal and Madeline seemed at ease. I couldn't remember the last time I had an actually real date. The only thing that bothered me was how little she ate. I didn't know how she was able to function on a daily basis with the lack of food intake.

"How is your meal?" I had to ask. Maybe she wasn't enjoying it like I first thought.

"It's amazing. I had never been here before. I wonder if they do delivery?" She responded and I chuckled at the delivery comment.

Our wine glasses were full and my plate was empty, Madeline looked like she was done with her meal as well. Over the past couple minutes she started to fidget. Everything was going so well and I didn't understand what had change. "Madeline? What is wrong," I gave in and asked. She didn't seem the type to be blunt.

"It's Mady. Not Madeline," she corrected me and looked in my eyes while she did before turning away. Bending over she pulled the file I seen her carrying with her when I picked her up. "Um...Mr. Jackson would like me to go over these with you," she added shyly and very uncomfortably.

I shook my head. "I rather not talk about business. I rather this be a date and not a business meeting." Her eyes widened and she seemed to get extremely nervous. "Mady, I have already decided not to continue the business arrangement with Mr. Jackson. So there is no need for us to go over what he has asked you to do."

Fear. Her fear hit me like a slap in the face. She started to tremble and I did not have a clue what I said wrong. "Mady?" I called out to her, reaching to put my hand on top of hers.

"I'm sorry but if I...if we...this doesn't get signed then..."she stammered. Taking a deep breath she looked at me than said in a more confident voice. "It's ok."

I had even a worse feeling than I did before. Something was really wrong. "Mady I need you to tell me what is going on. Why did you all of a sudden get scared after I told you that I was not going to do business with you boss?" I noticed last time I said his name she flinched. Using the word boss seemed to have less of an affect on her.

I wasn't sure if she was going to tell me. We sat there with my hand on top of hers for a few minutes. She just stared at our hands. Her breathing slowed to a normal pace and the tremors quieted. She opened her mouth once then closed it. The wait was killing me but I had a strong feeling it was my silence that would win her trust and confidence.

I was right. She looked up to meet my eyes and opened her mouth but this time words came out. "Long story short...If I do not get you to sign this agreement I will lose my job."

A part of me was so happy she was able to confide in me but the bigger have was furious. It was that side I had to push down so I did not frighten her. I needed to know more. "What do you mean you will lose your job? What did he say to you Mady?" Ok I was not able to keep my anger down, my voice was deeper than it should have been.

Mady took a deep breath and looked defeated. She took the contract that was in the folder and tore it into 4 pieces. "This way you will not be tempted to do something after I tell you. I do not need your pity. I was thinking of looking for another job anyways," she said after seeing the confused look on my face when she ripped up the paperwork. "I was told to do anything in my power to get you to sign this," she dropped the ripped paper as if it burned her. "I will not give my body for that!"

"Did he tell you to sleep with me?" I knew what he was suggestion before but I was a little caught off guard that he would actually demand and fire this beautiful woman if she did not complete his own task."

She barked out a harsh laugh. "That is putting it eloquently compared to what he stated."

I was thankful for the shook, it held the anger back a bit. I so did not want to scare this woman. My mate. "First I want you to know that I would never do that to you. Second...I need to know has he ever pushed you to do this before?

Her head shot up and she stared at me with such ferocity. "NO! I will never do that. This was the first time. Mr. Jackson is a horrible man and pushed the limits and made subtle comments to me over the past few month but nothing like this." She laughed again without humour. "Now I know why he goes through so many assistants."
