It was the longest month in my life. A week after Mady had officially became my mate I had to leave but she insisted she had to stay to deal with a few last minute things before she would leave that life and start her new one with me and my pack. We compromised and she allowed one of my pack mates, who I trust as much as I did my brother and my Alpha. Mason arrived in town the day before I had to leave. By the time they made it to our territory Mason was in love with Mady. More like a little sister and I knew he would protect her with his own life. That was all I could have asked for.

Mady said yes and we were getting married. She wanted her best friend and her girls to come to the wedding but with the distance, school and work she was unable too. Mady was disappointed but she understood. She also understood we had a secret to keep so less outsiders around was safer for us and them. Only the mates of wolves and a very few selected others knew of our existence and we had to keep it that way.

We had a date set for the wedding but after seeing her disappointment, due to her friend unable to make it, I moved the wedding up and surprised her. Everything went better than planned and Mady was happier than I could have imagine. We decided that we would try to have a child then she would be changed. I wasn't that happy about this due to there was a chance she would not survive. Our survival rate was better than it had been in the past but for some reason women's rate was till lower. She told me that no one would make me wait this long to find my mate only to take her away from me. I was hoping she was right but I would still try to postpone her decision as long as I could. In my eyes we had forever to wait.

Immediately Mady fit in. My Alpha, Jack and his mate loved her. My brother, Dmitri adored her. She already had him wrapped around her pinky like she did me. It was funny. All she did was give him those puppy dog eyes and he would give her anything. She also already made friends, good friends. Life is fantastic.

A month after the wedding I received a letter from Toronto that was addressed to me with no return address or name. I, unfortunately, ignored it and left it on the kitchen table. Mady did not.

"NATE!" Mady screams from the kitchen had me running.

Barging in I looked for the threat but found none. Ok maybe that wasn't true. Mady was staring at me with daggers in her eyes. "What did you do!?" For not being a wolf she had a damn fine growl. She slapped a paper on the table and I took a look. It was a letter.

On the table a small scrap of newsprint laid. It was an obituary.

"You had him killed!" Mady's emotions were all over the place. She was hurt, pissed, confused, and relieved.

I was afraid to take a step closer to her. "No. Well not really. I told the vampires about him and whatever they did was their decision and only their decision."

Made sat heavily down on one of the kitchen chairs. She looked up at me with more confusion on her face then anything else. "Vampires are real too? Ok mister sit your ass down and tell me what else is real. Oh and burn that so we don't get charged with conspiracy to murder." It only took a few seconds for a smile to spread across her face. She would never admit it but I knew she was relieved her old boss was gone. Now no one else would be a victim to his wills.

That night I told her everything. Of course she took it all very well. I didn't really expect anything less. She was my mate who had a heart of gold, nerves of steal and very open minded. Three of the many reasons why I am madly in love with her.
