~Kind of edited.

Slowly teams of genin arrived in the assigned training field, the old ANBU training field at least until it was deemed too easy, training ground forty-four, the Forest of Death. I watched each team from the front beside Anko. Three sentinels were seated on a table while I counted the arriving Genin.

Once all genin had arrived I nodded at Anko and she started talking, "This is the location for the second phase of the exam. It's the forty-fourth Battle Training Zone. But we call it the Forest of Death." Anko stated.

Walking around looking at the candidates with Raiden at my side, I noticed a cardboard box moving towards team seven before smoke explosions racked the place a second later. Raiden hid behind me as he growled while Anko looked over at me. I shrugged my shoulders as I watched as Konohamaru and his little friends appeared from within the smoke, "Kitsune, this is Neko, report status of the second exam." Minoru's voice flowed through my ear piece.

"Hey you over there!" Anko yelled at Naruto who happened to be talking with Konohamaru and his friends, "What are you doing? You're holding up the exams." Anko questioned.

"Uh, sorry, but Konohamaru was telling me something about an interview for the academy newspaper." Naruto explained.

Anko gasped in surprise before answering, "Oh, yeah, I forgot all about it. Lord Hokage had mentioned something about them interviewing me."

"Uh, interviewing you?" Naruto questioned I chuckled at his expression.

"All right, we're taking a ten minute break. For those who are scheduled to be interviewed, please be courteous and respectful to reporters from the academy newspaper." Anko informed the crowd of genin.

"I thought I was the only one being interviewed." Naruto said while I walked around once more glancing over the candidates. The team that scared me the most was the team from Suna. From what had been explained, Gaara, the youngest son of the Kazekage, was the jinchuriki of the ichibi and he was unstable. For that reason alone, I had been placed in the exams.

Stepping away from the teams, I answered Minoru, "Kit here, Academy students are interviewing some genin, exams are on hold for ten minutes. Activity in the village?" I asked.

"Activity is normal. Boring normal, but normal none-the-less." Takeshi's voice flowed through the coms.

I heard Minoru chuckle, "Okay so if I am understanding this correctly, Minoru is in HQ and Takeshi, you are in the village. Correct?" I questioned them.

"Yeah. Minoru kind of beat me to the punch line when it came to position." Takeshi said.

"It's not my fault you suck at rock paper scissors." Minoru's calm voice flowed through the com.

I pinched the bridge of my nose as I heard them arguing, and I turned my com down. I glanced around and I noticed Anko standing before the genin again, "This whole place just completely creeps me out." Sakura stammered.

"It should. They call it the Forest of Death and soon enough you're gonna find out why." Anko chimed adding to Sakura's worry.

I watched as Naruto mimicked her and silently giggled, "Do your worst. You're not gonna scare me away. I can handle anything." Naruto claimed.

"So looks like we got ourselves a tough guy." She threw a kunai at Naruto inflicting a cut on him, "You tough enough to handle this? You're not afraid, are you?" The kunai landed behind a grass ninja whose hair was cut.

I spoke quietly into the com, "Takeshi, your crazy girlfriend is being a sadist again."

I heard stuttering and laughter before Takeshi answered, "S-She's not my girlfriend..." Silence settled over the com before a silent, "yet." echoed though.

"Gross." Minoru replied while still laughing.

"You're just jealous because your betrothed isn't as hot as my crush." Takeshi countered.

"At least my betrothed i-"

"Okay clear the line you two, I am trying to make it past these exams with my sanity and patience in tact. Fight on your own time." I commanded cutting Minoru off.

"Yeess Moom." Takeshi replied.

"Tough guys like you, usually leave their blood all over this forest." Anko said and I watched as a woman, came up behind Anko. Anko had pulled a kunai out quickly and held it defensively.

A tongue held Anko's kunai, "I was just returning your knife." the female grass ninja said.

Anko looked at the woman holding her kunai, "Why thank you Grass Ninja. You know I really only recommend you stand this close behind me if you wish to meet a premature end." She informed the ninja behind her.

"My pardon. With the sight of blood and your blade slicing through my hair, I'm afraid that I just became a little excited. I meant you no harm." She said and turned walking back to her team.

"Likewise." Anko said.

I watched as Naruto started to stick his tongue out trying to mimic the weird ninja, "Seems like everyone here today is quick tempered. There must be something in the air." Anko stated.

"Or you sadism is affecting them." I replied. She shot me a quick glare while I gave her a wide smile.

"This is gonna be fun." Anko said. I watched as Naruto glared at her momentairly.

"Now before we begin this test, I have something to hand out to you all." Anko said and she held up the consent form, if anyone is handing out the forms, it is me. "Its just a standard consent form. Before the test, all of you are going to have to read over this form and then sign it." She informed the candidates.

"What for?" Naruto questioned.

"Some of you may not come back from this test and I have to get your consent to that risk. Otherwise it would be my responsibility." Anko answered Naruto.

Everyone started murmuring about the information that had been revealed, "Now I'll explain what you'll be doing on this test. Here pass these out." Anko said as she handed me the forms.

I handed them out quickly by row, "The first thing you need to know is that this test will test everyone of your survival skills. First, I'll give you all a description of the terrain on the practice field. The forty-fourth battle training zone has forty-four locked entrance gates, there are rivers and a forest inside. In the center is a locked tower located ten kilometers from each gate. It's in this confined area that you'll undergo the survival test. The test consists of, an anything goes battle. To get your hands on these scrolls." Anko said holding both scrolls up.

"Both of them?" someone questioned.

"Yes. You'll be fighting to get both, a Heaven scroll and a Earth Scroll. All together, twenty-six teams will be taking part in this test. So half of those teams will be going after the Heaven Scroll, and the other half will be trying to get the Earth Scroll. I'll hand over one kind of scroll to each team, and that's what you'll be vying for." Anko explained to the genin teams.

"Okay, so how do we pass the test?" Sasuke questioned Anko.

"Your entire squad must bring both the Heaven and Earth Scroll to the tower." Anko responded.

"That means that at the very best half of us will fail, more if not every team is able to get both the scrolls." Sakura deduced.

"No one ever said it would be easy." Anko nonchalantly stated, "Oh and one more thing, the test has a time limit. You must finish it within five days." Anko informed the candidates of chunin hopefuls.

"Five days days out there!" Ino, or the screeching blonde, whined.

"What are we supposed to do for food?!" Chouji cried.

"Just look around. There's more than enough food in there to feed all of you." I stated.

"Yeah but, that's not all the forest has plenty of." Kabuto stated, "There are man eating beasts and poisonous plants in there."

"No one ever said it was a happy go lucky terrain." I shot back at Kabuto.

"Oh man."

"Quiet down. This is what they call it survival, you know." Ino told her teammate.

"That means with these circumstances, there's no way half the teams will pass the test." The Hyuuga boy said.

"With the days getting longer, the nights are getting shorter, so we will have less time to sleep and less time to recover. It is a challenge indeed." I heard the mini Gai, Rock Lee, say.

"Completely surrounded by enemies. There won't be time to rest, we'll have to keep a constant watch." Sasuke added.

"Right, this test also measures endurance behind enemy lines. This is designed to be a grueling test and I'm sure some of you won't be up to the challenge." Anko said.

A hand went up and Shikamaru spoke, "So umm... say mid exam can we quit?" He asked.

I blinked twice before answering, "Of course not! In the middle of a battle you can't say, 'Oh sorry I quit.' I mean I guess you could, but I can guarantee you would be dead shortly after."

"Oh just great. This is gonna be a drag." He complained.

"There are also some ways you can get disqualified. The first is simple, if all three members of a team can't make it to the tower with both scrolls after five days. Number two, if a team loses a member or if a member becomes incapacitated and cannot continue. But most important, none of you, absolutely none of you may look at the contents of the scrolls until you've reached the tower." Anko stressed the rules.

"What if it just happens to flap open and you read it?" My brother asked.

"Let me put it to you this way young man. You. Don't. Want. To. Know." She stressed.

"Huh."

"There are times when a ninja will be asked to carry secret documents. The scroll rule is to test your integrity. Okay, we're done." Anko declared.

"Each team, take your consent forms and exchange them over there," I pointed to the shack by the forest, "for your scrolls. After that, each team can pick a gate and you'll be let inside." I explained.

"Oh, and I have one more word of advice. Just don't die!" Anko ordered. The Genin this year, in Konoha more than half were all clan heirs or the last of their clans, and from Suna we have the children of the Kazekage, they were all prime targets. I watched as half the genin started to finally get it.

A sickening feeling clenched at my stomach, suddenly it was as if someone was deliberately pushing their own killing intent at me. Glancing around, I met the eyes of the youngest sand sibling. The crazed look in his eyes set me on edge, unconsciously, I stared him down, "Great Aunt." I heard him whisper and I was confused as burning began in my eyes.

I felt a tugging in my mind, 'That blasted Tanuki is giving the poor boy a hard time. Dumb brat. When I get my hands on him he will regret making a pup suffer.' A voice I had grown familiar with growled in my head, 'Akira. Why did he call me great aunt?' I asked the aggravated being inside me. The tugging disappeared as she refused to answer my question.

I continued to look around, the clenching of my stomach only worsened. It was then my eyes landed on the genin teams from the grass and the sound. My eyes narrowed and I looked around for team seven. I found Sakura and walked over to her, "Well, well, well, if it isn't the little future failure." I heard the annoying blonde girl say, "What's up billboard brow? I thought you would have washed out of the program by now, your big forehead alone should have gotten you tossed." I stopped walking and watched as it played out before me.

"So sad. You're jealous that I'm spending five days with Sasuke. And its really turning you into someone very petty and ugly. And you were already ugly." Sakura fired back. Both girls started to glare at each other kind of how Naruto and Sasuke do. I watched as lightning metaphorically clashed between their eyes and as they called each other names.

Behind Ino, her two teammates, Shikamaru and Chouji were frozen in terror. I chuckled as I watched both girls walk away from each other before I followed after Sakura, "Sakura." I called the fuming pinkettes name.

She turned to face me with a confused expression, "Sensei?" She questioned.

I chuckled, "Sorry not your sensei for the time being. Anyways, here," I handed her my black and white kunai that resembled throwing daggers, "If anyone weird or odd, who does not hold the title of genin approaches to fight you all, throw this before you on the ground. I'll be there in a flash no matter how far away you are." I simply stated.

She nodded in understanding and put the kunai away as I left her side. I walked back to the shack we were using for the scrolls, "Alright everyone, we're gonna start handing out scrolls." A sentinel claimed opening the curtain briefly.

I watched team after team enter the shack and sighed, 'this was always the most blood filled part of the exam. I got to wonder, will they survive this?' I looked over at the rookie teams and shook my head, "They can make it through this." I whispered.

"Listen up all the teams have received their scroll, so everybody go to your gate and wait there. When the gates open the test is on!" Anko claimed.

"Kitsune reporting in, exams will kick start in a couple of minutes. The last of the teams are arriving at their designated gates." I said into the com as we waited for the clock to strike two thirty.

"All right heads up you maggots! The second part of the test has begun." Anko claimed as the gates were opened and the genin rushed inside.

"Exams have begun, commence perimeter check." I stated.

"Inu acknowledges. Perimeter check commencing." Takeshi called and the sweep began. It first would start in the village and end in the training grounds.

Five minutes into the test we could hear screams reaching us, "What a bunch of blood thirsty kids." I said shaking my head.

Anko chuckled, "It sounds like they've already started." She said. Time passed by too slowly for my liking, before I finally felt a pull from the kunai I gave Sakura an hour later.

I stood from the ground, "Something's wrong." I said as I looked into the forest.

The disgusting smell of snake laced with the scent of death reached my nostrils, "What do you mean?" Anko asked as she stopped eating her dango.

"Kitsune, eastern flank has something you may want to s-"

"Get Anko to go there I have something to take care of." I said and paid no attention to the com as I disappeared towards the beacon the kunai gave off. I appeared on a tree, Naruto in my arms and kunai in my pouch. I looked over at Sakura and Sasuke, who was clutching his neck in pain.

"Kit, what about your back up?" Takeshi asked. The urgency in his voice was obvious.

"Kitsune here, now about that back up. Neko, Inu, head into the forest as fast as you can. I need everyone else to secure the forest now. Orochimaru is here. I repeat, Orochimaru is here, moving to engage." I said as a clone appeared beside me. She took Naruto and joined me beside Sasuke.

"Sakura, follow my clone and get out of here." I ordered as I stood before them.

"But sensei-"

"That is an order Sakura." I commanded. She looked at me wide-eyed and refused to move, "GO SAKURA!" yelling got her to move.

I bit my thumb and dragged it across my palm, Summoning jutsu. I slammed my hand on the tree branch I stood. Four clouds of smoke appeared beside me and growling echoed around us as the wolves disappeared into hiding.

"Like always, you stand to make yourself a problem. Tell me girl, what have you learned from the old man? Can it allow you to live past this? Or will you be like your parents and die trying to play the hero." Orochimaru spoke.

My eyes narrowed as I prepared a jutsu, "Last time I checked, snakes are at the bottom of this food chain, so bring it on snake, this wolf isn't afraid of you or your poison." I snarled.

"I think I'll play with you a little, and humor you." Orochimaru responded.

Water Style: Water Dragon Blast. A dragon formed out of thin air, taking the water from the atmosphere and began racing towards my target, Orochimaru. I watched as the dragon slammed into his body and felt a presence behind me. Ducking and rolling out the way, a sword stabbed the ground I once stood on.

Grabbing a kunai and channeling chakra into it. Wind Style: Violent Wind Palm. I blocked the blade which was headed to my head with the kunai and pushed him away while swinging the kunai down on him. He dodged it and watched as strands of his hair hit the floor. He glared at me as he realized that chakra ran through the blade coupled with an element.

As I dodged the multiple swipes aimed at my head I threw the kunai and watched as it sliced his left arm open. A cloud of smoke obscured my vision and I felt two presences rush past me and jump onto what the cloud hid. Once it cleared, two of my best wolves were tearing apart a giant snake.

A hand grabbed onto my long red hair and I stopped the kunai coming towards my neck. He was now behind me, I was left with one option, "Kitsune, we're on our way. Don't engage!" Minoru called through the com. Redirecting his hand and forcing it into my hair, I felt as my head suddenly became lighter and watched as red strands fluttered to the ground. Turning and kicking him away from me I put distance between us.

We both stood still as screams from participants echoed around us. A gust of wind blew past us taking the strands as we both sized each other up. Orochimaru started flowing through hand signs that I recognized. A shadow attached itself to him constricting his movement.

"We both know that will do nothing to me. Unlike you, I am a true seals master. Your interferance with my chakra network would be quickly reversed. Which reminds me, you laid hands on my brother. I wonder, what does fried snake taste like." I snarled as I moved towards him.

He disappeared in a cloud of smoke and a sharp pain greeted my back as I crashed into the tree. Something then penetrated my skin, reaching back I pulled my hand back to find it covered in blood and a clear substance . A sweet earthy smell penetrated my nostrils and I turned, "You have a passion for being poisoned don't you?" Akira said.

"Maybe. Now shut it, I have a snake to fry." I informed the being within me.

"Block." she whispered and my hands flew up blocking the arm headed to my chest. I pushed back and started to dodge as Orochimaru continued his assault on me. No matter how much distance I put between us, I realized I was the one way over my head.

"Now, low strike." Akira ordered and I swiped my hand at Orochimaru, my kunai cutting into him. He hissed and he kicked towards my chest, "Block, then strike again. Aim at his stomach." she continued. Like told I blocked the kick and threw my punch, my hand covered in chakra, towards his stomach. He flew back and slammed into the tree, leaving an indent on the bark.

"Deliver the final strike now." Akira ordered. I started running towards Orochimaru when someone else entered the field and slammed into me. I was thrown to the other side of the field and a blade penetrated my body.

I glanced down at the blade entering through my stomach, "Such a shame you were such a threat." Orochimaru said as he stared down at me his hand still on the blade. I lifted my hand up and collected the remainder of the chakra I could while the wolves attacked the intruder, destroying the person until there was nothing but blood bathing the floor the being once stood on. Slowly they began to close in on Orochimaru and me, looking for an opening to attack him and to pull him away from me.

Once I gathered enough chakra I released it into my palm and watched as a familiar blue orb made itself before thrusting it at Orochimaru. He had no time to react and once the Rasengan hit him, he slammed into the opposing tree, a piece of his clothes in my hand. The wolves were before me, one removing the blade and the other three keeping guard over us, Orochimaru had disappeared from the site, "I'm so pathetic." I whispered into the quiet clearing.

"You are not." The dark black wolf, Koga the gamma, snarled as he turned to look at me.

"I am. Look at me, I couldn't even last a full fight against him. We are supposed to be at the same level as the Sannin." I continued.

"Then continue to train. We told you since you signed our contract that we would help you advance. You are farther than any of the other summoners we've had in the past. To be able to stand up against him is a feat itself. You lasted as long as you could, and because of us; because we did not bother to check the area, we allowed you to get poisoned. We can feel it traveling through your body and blocking off your chakra. We can flush it from your system, but you must help us fight the poisonous effects. Once we do get it out your system, we must return home. You will be left to survive until your teammates make it here." Koga spoke and the other wolves agreed with him.

I nodded and they stood around me, a cloud of smoke obscured my vision and suddenly the wolves were in their other form standing before me. They moved to stand around me and began running through hand signs, "Wolf Style: Fang restoration!" Koga cried as their chakra entered my body helping me fight the poison inside of me.

Once they were done two of the wolves were on one knee, the other two barely standing, "Go ahead and go." I whispered as I felt my chakra finally stop flowing and no longer feeding their stay here. I heard Koga curse lowly and he touched my forehead.

He removed my hair from my forehead and wiped the forming sweat from my brow, "Stay alive. I won't forgive you if you die on us Minako." He said and disappeared from sight with the other three wolves.

I concentrated on breathing and slowly that became difficult. I could feel my body starting to compensate due to the poison still roaming my body, "Rest, I can take care of the remaining poison." Akira whispered. I turned my head to the left and spotted a crow, one I knew well enough, "Itachi..."

As I started to lose focus I heard cursing close to my left and listened to the footfalls on the branch, "Hurry up Haruno." I heard Minoru snarl at Takeshi.

My eyes closed, I was beginning to welcome the darkness that slowly took over my body. Panic settled in me when I noticed my breathing slowly coming to a stop, along with my heart which was stopping due to it overexerting itself, "Minako!" A voice I knew so well yelled.

No one's POV

They reached the clearing in which they had last sensed Minako's chakra from. Resting on a branch high up from the ground was Minako's unmoving body. There was no movement from their teammate and Minoru started to worry. Going up to her, Takeshi and Minoru fell to their knees beside her and carefully positioned her on the branch, laying her on her back. Takeshi placed his fingers on her neck, feeling for her carotid pulse and found none. Her chest was not moving and they both jumped into action.

Minoru ripped open her clothes and both heard the ominous sound of a crow angrily crowing in the background as they sliced through her ao dai leaving her bare. Minoru placed his hands on the center of her chest and started giving her compressions hoping to restart her heart, "Takeshi, be prepared to give her two breaths after I have given her the thirty compressions." Minoru ordered.

After five minutes they noticed a flock of crows angrily surrounding them and a figure started to take form just as they got Minako to start breathing on her own. Her pulse was erratic and slowly going back to normal. A sharp crimson color caught both boys attention and suddenly their environment and teammate disappeared.

The figure which had formed walked to the figure that lay on the floor slowly breathing before stopping beside her. Taking a bundle from his sleeve, he draped it over the girl on the floor covering her up. Noticing her right hand was clenched tightly over a piece of cloth, he pried it out her grip. As he held the cloth up to his face to examine it and clenched his fist, "Orochimaru." He growled in anger as he stood. Turning his gaze to his living friend's teammates he had a half mind to obliterate them for the harm she suffered. Then he knew that she had gone off on her own and faced Orochimaru on her own. His crow relayed that much information to him.

He looked back down at her and left, knowing that the information he would be giving her later would not only make things difficult for him, but for who he worked for, but he was fine with that, he owed her so much already that if he was in her shoes, he'd be surprised if she did not kill him instead.

Minutes later Minoru broke out of the genjutsu first and helped Takeshi out of the genjutsu. Both teammates stared at the cloak resting over their teammate and removed it after looking around for anyone who could have placed the cloak on her. They both pulled out the medical supplies they had and searched Minako for any more injuries she could have that were not addressed before. After finding none, they covered her back up and Takeshi picked her up, "We need to go now and get to the tower. She needs to be looked over by the medics while we implement the search." Minoru stated. Takeshi nodded and they both began racing through the testing field towards the tower, at the pace they were going, they would arrive within the next half hour.

Once they both made it to the tower, they were rushed to the private room they had set up for the ANBU team that would be present for the preliminaries, which originally was for them. When both boys were pushed out the room by the medics, they waited by the doors and sat down in silence. The silence was not long-lived, "Why would she do that?" Minoru heard Takeshi's question.

Minoru sighed, "It was our job to make sure he never infiltrated the exams. If her students were in danger, better yet if her bother was in danger, you know she does not care about her well being when it comes to Naruto. She did what was right, whether it was for her brother or for the chunin hopefuls. The most we lost was three to four candidates if the blood splatter on the branch was anything to go by. Now leave it alone, be grateful she's still here with us and that she was not when we were put in the genjutsu."

Takeshi glared at the wall opposing him, "It was Uchiha wasn't it, the one who put us under?" Takeshi asked his partner.

"Perhaps." Minoru answered as he stared at the floor.

By the second hour, after they had arrived, the medics stepped out, "She's out of danger now. Let her rest, she may be up sometime today or perhaps tomorrow. You may see her." The head medic stated and both boys walked inside.

Takeshi glared at the form of his sleeping teammate and he walked up to her. Catching sight of her hair, he glared, "Her hair, it's gone." He said as he looked at her spiky hair.

Minoru followed his eyesight and his eyes widened slightly "Naruto's not gonna be happy." He said as he ran a hand through her spiky hair. He watched silently as Takeshi started to fix her hair, making sure every lock of hair was even.

Hours passed slowly for the stressed boys. One was silently fuming while the other was worried about the direction these exams could go. Either way, the one who could really turn the tide in their favor was unconscious. A sudden shift in their teammates breathing rate caught their attention which was followed by an uncomfortable groan.

A hoarse cough left their teammates mouth when she had opened it to talk, "Guys?" She questioned shortly after. Minoru grabbed a canteen of water and poured it in a cup that sat on the table with four other cups. Takeshi walked towards his recovering teammate and he stood over her next to her bed.

"How can you be so goddamned reckless Minako!" He began yelling at the recovering girl, "What would have happened if he decided to kill you? What about Naruto? What about us? Did you forget about us?!" Takeshi yelled.

Minako's eyes widened and she began to climb out the bed after throwing the blanket off of her, "Shut your trap Haruno!" she grabbed his shirt and pulled him down to her height, "You and I both know damn well that you would have done the same thing. I did what I had to to ensure my students lives and the lives of those participating in the exams. And to answer your question I did not forget about you two. You two are apart of the family and you know that." Minako retorted, her fuming teammate not bothering to acknowledge he heard her.

Minoru watched as both of his teammates argued. However, he agreed with Minako wholeheartedly. This wasn't just about her life, it was about the lives of every Genin, sentinel, and proctor involved in the second part of the exam. She did as any good shinobi would do. She put the village before her life. In this case, it was the right thing to do as if it had been left alone, who knows what really would have happened in the forest and ho many more genin would have died at the hands of the snake.

"-don't try to be like him! He died be-" Takeshi's face snapped to the left and Minako's right hand pulled back. Disbelief and pain evident on her face as her bangs slowly cast a shadow over her eyes.

Suddenly Minoru regretted not listening to what was being said, "Get out." She snarled, her voice hollow and void of emotion.

Takeshi looked towards the ground and quietly spoke, "Minako I'm so-"

Minoru grabbed his arm and dragged him to the door, "You've said too much dobe. Give her time." He said as he pushed the Haruno out the room. He turned to Minako and walked to her. Slowly he hugged the distraught girl, "You know the idiot talks before thinking about the effects of his words." He whispered as he rubbed her back slowly.

Minako nodded before sighing, "He can suffer for now. Now can I finally sleep?" She slumped against his shoulder.

Minoru sighed, seriously, both his teammates were children in the bodies of fifteen year old teenagers. He picked her up and placed her back on the bed finally noticing the black shirt she was in, "Rest, I'll go rile that idiot up. I'll send him for your clothes. Maybe even make him paranoid before hand." He said.

Minako blinked in surprise before shuddering, "Remind me to never get on your bad side Minoru. You are definitely an evil maniac." she stated. Minoru smirked at her before he left the room they were assigned to.

I hope you enjoyed the update. I'll be fixing the chapter again offline to make the fight between her and Orochimaru better. I hate how it came out. Why do I always poison her? This is highlighting a weakness which will be worked on during the one month training break after the preliminaries. You'll see why she has it.
