Chapter 1- The Birth of a Sister and the Death of two Legends

Chapter 1 The Birth of a Sister and the Death of two Legends

August 2nd a night where everyone still peacefully slept, all but the Yellow Flash and his wife. Why? Well, Kushina Uzumaki was giving birth to their first baby. The pain was unbearable but she knew giving up was not an option. For if she did her baby would die. Minato Namikaze, the father and husband of Kushina, was letting his wife squeeze his hand. He thought her hits were hard but the grip she had on his hand let him know how wrong he truly was. A screamed echoed in the walls of her hospital room and probably outside waking up any of the patients around her room. Kushina gave a final push and the cry of a baby filled the silence that settled throughout the room. Then the crying stopped and everyone moved into action forgetting the parents of the infant.

"Minato, what's happening?" Kushina asked worried about her baby. A nurse and the doctor rushed out with the baby in hand trying to get her to breathe again.

"I'll go find out Kushina, you go ahead and rest, I'll be back with the baby." Minato said. Kushina nodded as the other nurses came around her and cleaned her up moving her from the bed she was recently on. Minato walked around the pediatric intensive care unit watching as they worked on clearing his baby's lungs. After a couple more minutes they wrapped the baby in a light purple blanket knowing that Kushina had provided the blanket for a reason. A nurse stepped out and handed Minato the small whimpering bundle.

"Her lungs were clotted with fluid but she's out of danger now. She is a healthy baby, Namikaze-sama." The young nurse said.

"Thank you. I'll take her to Kushina and we'll decide on her name together." Minato told the nurse. The nurse nodded and Minato walked back to his wife with the now silent bundle in hand. As he walked into the room, he found Kushina sitting up looking out the window; the morning sun was starting to rise slowly over the slumbering village. Kushina looked back and her eyes brightened when she caught sight of the bundle in Minato's arms.

"How is the baby dattebane?" Kushina asked, no attention was paid to the colored blanket, the only thing she wanted to know about was the health of her child.

"She's alright now." Minato answered shifting his hold on the baby.

"Well hand her over dattebane." Kushina said wanting to see her baby. As Minato handed the baby over they saw her open her eyes, she looked at Kushina with light blue almost purple eyes. The baby cooed and reached out to touch her mother's hair. After she grabbed hold of it she tugged on it once and let go giggling. The baby glanced at Minato and stared at him tilting her head to the right a bit before reaching out to him. Minato chuckled at his daughter and carefully took her from her mother's arms.

"What shall we name her?" Minato asked Kushina. Kushina watched as her daughter grabbed onto her husband's cloak and how she would reach up trying to tug his blonde hair.

"What about Minako Namikaze-Uzumaki?" Kushina inquired.

Minato looked down at his daughter after she squealed and started giggling, "Do you like that Minako?" He asked only to receive another squeal and giggle. Minako reached up again and ran her fingers down his face. She then yawned and Kushina squealed.

"Kawaii! Hand her over, I want to see her hair color dattebane." Kushina demanded. She removed the blanket from her head and saw her daughter had her same hair color, red.

"Minako has your hair color. Now I know for a fact I will have some punks to beat if they come near her with any intention to date her." Minato silently remarked.

"We will have to let her go soon, right?" Kushina asked.

"Yes, nineteen or twenty-five years from now!" Minato exclaimed. Kushina started to chuckle.

"I just hope she does not have my temper, dattebane." Kushina whispered looking down at her sleeping daughter.

"Well if she does, we don't have to worry about her going missing, now do we?" Minato teased.

"I suppose you're right. Now I'm going to do the same as our daughter and sleep." Kushina responded handing Minako to Minato. He took a seat with his daughter in his arms after filling out his daughter's birth certificate and stared down at the innocent child in his arms, the innocence he silently swore to maintain until she was old enough to know the cruel shinobi world.

------------------------------------------------------

At eight months Minako was already walking around and had started talking on her first birthday. During the time Minako was two, she took an interest in Minato's kunai, which he often left anywhere in her reach. Her godparents Mikoto and Fugaku Uchiha were wrapped around her little finger just like the four year old Itachi was. Most of the time, Itachi was seen interacting with the young girl and following the toddler around when both families were together.

At two years old Minako was seen playing with fake kunai and watching Itachi train in his clan styles. At the same time Kushina was beginning to instill the basics into her and letting her daughter look through her clan scrolls for her own protection. Being that their daughter understood more than the average two year old they educated her differently. From reading through scrolls and training with both parents in common self-defense they were ecstatic their daughter was ready to be a big sister.

"Why is your tummy getting bigger, mommy?" Minako asked Kushina one day after her small training session.

"Because your brother is in there." Kushina said. Kushina was currently eight months pregnant and she feared that this time her pregnancy could be danger. As far as both Minato and she, herself, knew, the nine tails could break free this time.

"Mommy did you eat my brother?" Minako asked her mother innocently.

"No dattebane! Your dad and I made him." Kushina replied turning red from embarrassment when her daughter asked her if she had eaten her sibling.

"How?" The curious toddler asked.

"You're too young to know. I'll tell you one day." Kushina quickly responded.

Minako seemed to take the answer and moved on, something Kushina was grateful for, "When will my brother get here mommy?" Minako asked Kushina.

"Give it about one more month, dattebane." Kushina said. Minako looked back at the forest around her and saw a man with a swirly mask, she felt he was dangerous. She walked to her mother and took her hand pulling her to Kakashi who was silently watching as his sensei's daughter practiced throwing kunai and shiruken. Kakashi secretly relished in the fact that his sensei's daughter can embarrass her mother without trying.

The 10th of October arrived and Kakashi was given the day off while Minato, three year old Minako, and Kushina left the village to go somewhere safe where his wife could have their second baby. The midwife took Minako further into the hide out and left her by herself as she read an earth release scroll. She caught interest in the Earth Release: Rock Shelter. All it took, as far as she had learned, were the snake, boar, and ox hand signs with very little chakra. In the room she was in, she practiced making the dome, something she should not have been doing due to the fact that she could unknowingly exhaust herself. The first time she tried, she made one around herself with enough room to have another within close proximity with her. She sat down and rested while looking over the scroll. She heard the cry of a baby and she opened the door from the room she was left in.

"Yondaime Hokage Minato, get away from the Jinchuriki. Don't you care what happens to your kid?" Minako heard an unknown man's voice.

"Wait! Calm down!" Minako heard her father yell. She paused and blended into the shadows on instinct.

"Speak for yourself Minato. I'm as cool as can be." Minako heard the same man speak.

"Naruto!" She heard her mother yell. Minako ran in and watched her father catch, what she believed was, her baby brother.

"Well I must hand it to the Yellow Flash. But I wonder about these next ones." The man activated the explosive tags he put on Naruto and aimed kunai at Minako throwing them at her; she noticed a piece of paper flying behind the kunai. Explosion Tags.

"Minato! Minako! Naruto!" Kushina yelled in fear for her family's life. Quickly Minako preformed the snake, boar, and ox signs slamming her hands on the ground, 'Earth Release: Rock Shelter.' A small dome formed around her and the kunai exploded on the shelter upon impact. She then felt a bigger explosion shake the ground, and she covered her head not releasing the shelter.

"Minako!" She heard her father yell in shock and anger.

"Papa!" Minato heard his daughter yell and he looked at the only thing that still stood. He watched as the shelter fell from around her and for a moment he sighed in relief. Minako ran towards her father the moment the shelter fell.

"Minako, where did you learn that?" Minato asked his daughter, grateful he had not lost her.

"From the scroll mommy gave me. Daddy he took mommy. Is he going to hurt her?" Minako asked Minato.

"I don't know princess. Hold on." He said. She grabbed onto his leg and he used the raijin to get his children back to safety. Minako sat down on the floor the moment she realized they were safe and she watched as her father put Naruto down on the large bed, "You'll both be safe here. Naruto, just wait awhile; Minako keep him safe, I have to go save your mother." Minato said and ruffled his daughter's hair. He could not believe he almost lost his first born child, the masked man had made a mistake targeting his child. When her father took off Minako got on the bed and sat on the left side of Naruto. Minako felt something was wrong right away after her father left. She heard something within her mind whisper, 'Kurama is free'. Whatever that was, she chose to ignore it.

Her father teleported back with her mother and she saw her mother was in a weakened state, "Why?" Kushina questioned.

"Never mind that. Just stay with Naruto and Minako." Her father said as he put her mother on the bed next to Naruto.

Minako watched her mother silently as she hugged Naruto. Minako looked up at her father and saw the dark look in his eyes. He glanced at his daughter and gave her a small sad smile, he knew what needed to be done. He opened up the closet and took two of his cloaks out, "Minato... Thank you. Good luck." Minako read the back of his cloak which said Fourth Hokage and engraved it into her mind. Minato walked back and wrapped his daughter in his extra cloak.

Ruffling her spiky red hair, "I'll be right back. Minako, protect your mother and brother." Minato said kissing his daughters forehead.

"Hai, tou-san." Minako said. After a while her father came back and took them all to the beast.

"I must put up a barrier immediately." Minato said. Minako took Naruto out her father's arms carefully and she held him.

"I can still do it Minato." Kushina implied. Minako watched as chakra chains surrounded the beast and her eyes followed them back to their source, they all connected behind her mother.

Kushina coughed, "Kushina!" Minato yelled worried and Naruto started to cry.

"Did I wake you? I'm sorry Naruto." Kushina apologized.

"Kushina..." Minato trailed off looking at his wife, and it hurt knowing that this was going to perhaps be their end; it hurt the most because his daughter was in an age that would allow her to remember this traumatic experience.

"I'm going to drag the tailed beast with me to my death. So we can delay the revival of the nine tails. I'll be able to save all of you with what little chakra I have left. Thank you for everything you've done for me." Kushina stated.

Minako started to shed tears with a whimpering Naruto while watching as her mother basically said goodbye to them, she understood this much, and her heart clenched painfully.

"Kushina... It's because of you that I am Fourth Hokage! You made me a man! And you made me the father of our two children! And yet..." Minato cut off watching as his daughter basically pieced everything together before turning his gaze to Kushina.

"Minato, don't give me that look. I'm happy that you loved me. And today... is this child's birthday. If I were to imagine me alive, and our future together, the four of us as a family... I can't see us having anything but a happy life. If I were allowed just one regret, it's that I won't be able to see Minako and Naruto grow up. How I wish I could have seen that." Kushina remarked.

"Kushina there's no need to die with the Nine Tails. Preserve what little chakra you have left for a reunion with Naruto and Minako. I'll seal all of our remaining chakra inside them. It will be part of the Eight Signed Seal. Then I'll take the Nine Tails with me with the only sealing jutsu I can do since I'm not a Jinchuriki, the Reaper Death Seal." Minato said and Minako watched as her father wiped a tear away.

"But the caster of that uses that jutsu...!" Kushina was cut off.

"And one more thing. I will only seal half of the Nine Tails. Sealing a power this immense is physically impossible. It's also strategically unwise. If you take the Nine Tails and its seal with you when you die there won't be a Jinchuriki around when he reemerges. That will upset the balance of power between the Tailed Beasts. The Reaper Death Seal will seal half of the nine tails with me forever. As for the other half of the Nine Tails... I will seal it inside Naruto with the Eight Signed Seal tying it to Minako so she can keep it in check. I know what you want to say. Now remember what Master Jiraiya said about world upheaval, and the calamities that would follow. Two things are confirmed to me today. That masked man who attacked you today is a harbinger of disaster. And the ones who will stop him are our children. This infant whose godfather is Jiraiya. He will open up the future as a Jinchuriki. Minako can and will help him no matter the consequences. I don't know why, but I'm convinced of this." Minato said and looked over to his daughter. She stared back at him with innocence in her eyes. Innocence, that he once swore to protect, would no longer be there.

"But Minato...!" Kushina cut off.

Minako watched as her father made the hand signs for the Reaper Death Seal, "Let's put our trust in our children! They're ours after all! When I'm finished with the Reaper Death Seal, I will seal your chakra and my remaining in both of them. When Naruto tries to control the Nine Tails chakra as a Jinchuriki, I want you to help him out." Minato said.

"Our son... He's our son, which is why I don't want to put such a terrible burden on him. And also why use the Reaper Death Seal? If it's just so I can meet a grown-up Naruto and Minako even if it's just for a short while, there's no need for you to die! I want you to stay by Minako and Naruto as they grow up and protect them. I don't get it! To keep the balance of the Tailed Beasts? For the sake of the nation and the village? Why must they be sacrificed?! Why must you sacrifice yourself for me?!" Kushina yelled.

"To forsake one's nation and one's village, is the same as forsaking one's child. Your own homeland was destroyed so you of all people should know, the harsh life that awaits those without a country. Besides, our family is Shinobi! And finally, even if I were to live, I'm no match to you. Even though you won't have much time with him, there are some things only you as his mother can tell Naruto. Things that I can't. That's a mother's role. I'm not doing this just for you, I'm doing this for them. I will gladly die for our son and daughter." Minato said reaching down and picking Minako up, "It's my duty as their father." Minato put Minako down after kissing her forehead lovingly and told her to hold onto Naruto, "Seal." Minako heard her father say. Looking up she saw the chakra of the Nine Tails heading towards her father. She watched as her father slammed his hand down to the ground and eight candles surrounding a small bed appeared, "I will now seal the Nine Tails inside Naruto and tie Minako to it." Minako watched as her father set Naruto down and told her to stand beside it. As she did her mother started to cough. Minako watched as the nine tails took the opportunity to strike at her brother. Reacting quickly like her parents she used her body to shield Naruto from the incoming claw by getting on top of him. She felt something penetrate her skin, looking back Minako saw her parents impaled by the same claw digging into her back, "I said that this was the father's duty."

"Then all the more reason since I'm their mother." Kushina stated, "This is the first time I lost an argument. Okay I understand that you are determined to do this."

"Thank you Kushina." Minato said and he summoned a frog.

"Minako, sweetheart move to the side." Kushina said. They watched as Minako moved away and stood beside Naruto like she was originally told to.

"Kushina my time is running out. I'm going to start on the Eight Signed Seal. I want to put some of my chakra in both of them. It'll be quite a while before we can see them. Let's tell them what we want to say." Minato said.

"Naruto, Minako... don't be picky. Eat lots and grow strong. Listen to your big sister. Make sure you both bathe every day and stay warm. Also don't stay up late, you both need your sleep. And make friends. You don't need lots of friends. Just a few, ones you can really, really trust. I wasn't very good at it, but both of you keep up with your studies and practice your ninjutsu hard. Remember that everyone has strengths and weaknesses. So don't get too depressed if you can't do something well, after all your big sister can help you Naruto. Respect your teachers and upperclassmen at the academy. Oh and this is important. It's about the Three Prohibitions for a Shinobi. Be extra careful about borrowing and lending money. Put your mission wages into a savings account. No alcohol until you're both twenty. Too much can ruin your health so drink in moderation. Another Prohibition is women. I'm a woman but I don't know about this. All you need to remember is that the world is made up of men and women. So it's only natural to take interest in girls. But just don't get hooked on bad women. Find someone just like me. Speaking of the three prohibitions be wary of Jiraiya-sensei, dattebane. Naruto, Minako, from now on your both going to face lots of pain and hardship. Be true to yourselves. Have a dream and have the confidence to make that dream come true! There's so much. Oh, so much more that I want to pass on to you two. I wish I could stay with you longer. I love you two. Minato, I'm sorry I used up your time." Kushina said.

"Naruto, my message to you is... I guess it's the same as your nagging mother's. Minako, my message to you princess is to protect Naruto and become a great kunoichi. Keep him safe, shower him with love and be there for him every waking moment. Will you do that for us?" Minato asked his daughter. She looked back at him with burning determination and nodded, "Eight Signed Seal." Naruto started to cry as the seal implimented itself on him, "Eight Signed Seal: Reservoir." Minato said and Minako felt a burning sensation around her neck, she understood why Naruto had cried, it burned. Minako heard Naruto crying and watched as the barrier went down. Minako picked Naruto up slowly and cradled him carefully.

"Minako." She heard a familiar voice call out. She looked back and saw Lord Hiruzen.

"Jiji." Minako barely said above a whisper before her legs gave out and she fell to the floor the pain in her back having intensified.

"Bring a medical nin! Minako stay awake." She heard the third call.

"Oji-chan, will Naruto be besides me when I wake up?" Minako asked and Naruto was taken from her arms.

"Yes Minako, he will." Lord Hiruzen reassured her as he watched the tired girl relax.

"Then don't worry, I will wake back up I have a brother to take care of." Minako said smiling as she let her eyes close. The amount of chakra she had used, took its toll on her small body.
