Chapter 46: Volatile and Violent
The dark room was no longer dark. Instead, it was filled with glistening dust with a purple hue, sizzling here and there. Naruto observed the chakra dust with almost a nostalgic feel. It had been a while since he called it forth in this form. The sizzles felt warm and caressing against his skin and soothed him. He focussed the chakra on the bands on his wrists, ankles and neck, quickly corroding them away until the chain dropped to the ground with a dull ring.
Suddenly bearing his own weight again, he lost his balance and ended up on the ground, heaving for air now that his body had the freedom to actually feel it. Fatigue from chakra drain and heavy muscle aches from being in the same position for so long. Since Naruto didn't expect anyone to come by his cell any time soon, he took his time to recover.
After a while, he rose to his not so impressive height and focussed his gaze upon the door. As if on cue, the dust moved towards the door and corroded it away as well. As soon as the door fell, Naruto was face to face with some deeply shocked guards. There were four guards in total.
Naruto let a smile creep onto his face, calling back the chakra dusk and compressing it into chains in the blink of an eye. That was all the time it took for the guards to react as well. Three of them pulled weapons and readied to defend their position, while the fourth turned around and almost tripped over himself as he did so. It surprised Naruto he didn't scream as well. He knew the guard that ran, which explained why he ran. He did not know the guards that stayed, which explained why they stayed. At least it did to Naruto.
He didn't wait for them to get fully ready but immediately launched forward, sending the chains out in front of him. Before he even left the cell, the first guard dropped to the ground, pierced by a chain, dead. The smell of fresh blood hit him hard, sending shivers down his spine. This... this was why he was alive...
For the first time since he was bound to this human body, he felt like he would be able to go all out. Drop all inhibitions and fears. There would be nothing left, so there was nothing to worry about. There was only want and need. Only anger and hate.
It took less time than he had hoped to take down the other two guards. He felt like he was still being underestimated despite them knowing what he could do. He walked through the hallway. His bare feet hit the floor with each step sending out an eery echo.
When he saw a guard running towards him who was about his size and was wearing a colour he kind of liked, a dull orange, he caught the guard around the neck with one of his chains and with a quick move snapped the neck. A bloodless kill. It almost felt unfair to kill like that, but he was naked and he didn't want to put on clothing that was already soaked. That would feel horrible, like pulling on cold wet clothing.
He held the body up by the neck and stripped it. Meanwhile, he heard a larger group of guards running down the hallway towards him. They were in greater numbers than before and one of the first guards that came into view was the coward who ran before. Naruto looked past the body at them and noticed someone else familiar within the ranks. Hisato. One of the only people besides Morino who had been kind to him, just because he was him.
When their eyes met, he could see the conflict in Hisato. Ignoring all the others, he dropped the body and smiled at Hisato. "If you sit down, I'll let you live." His voice was clearly heard by all of them, but none of them seemed to take it seriously, except for Hisato. He sat down and closed his eyes, shutting the world out and in that betraying his fellow guards and proving loyalty, or fear, to Naruto. There were screams, yells and wet sounding squelches. Hisato felt blood spatter onto his face and flinched from that, curling a bit more into himself.
A few minutes dragged by, and Hisato didn't move. Not until bare feet placed themselves in front of him, and he looked up to see Naruto grinning down on him. "Thank you." Naruto said and he walked past Hisato.
For a second Hisato didn't know what to do. He sat staring at the red hallway and felt nausea rise within him. Snapping his eyes away from the scene, he stood up and ran after Naruto. "Wait!" he called out. Naruto stopped and turned around. The friendly smile on Naruto's face looked very disturbing next to the blood spatter on his cheek. "What are you going to do?" Hisato asked.
"I am going to kill everyone in Konoha, and then build my den in the blood and ashes." Naruto answered eerily and made it sound like a simple task at the same time.
Hisato swallowed. The threat seemed unreal, but at the same time, Hisato had no problem believing that Naruto could and would succeed. "Why not kill me?" Hisato asked.
"I would have, but you obeyed." With that, Naruto turned around and started walking towards the exit once again. There were still many twisting hallways to cross, so he sped up until he was running. It was too easy to cut through those in his way. The walls crumbled too easily as well. It was like the restraints he felt in this place before were no longer of any consequence to him. So by the time he stood before the doors that lead to the reception area, he was covered in dust and blood, but his grin was firm on his face.
He collected the chakra dust into the palm of his hand, compressing it into a Bijudama and readying himself for a dramatic exit. He made it bigger than he had before, and denser. He wasn't just going to blow a hole in the department, he was going to make a crater that would swallow a whole section of Konoha.
The sizzles intensified around the Bijudama as it reached its maximum potential. It actually felt heavy to Naruto and he couldn't help but grin at it. Such power he held. It had been too long. He rose his eyes from his hand to the door and simply tossed the Bijudama in that direction. It was fascinating to see how the protective jutsu's melted away at the force of the impact. The doors bend before being blasted backwards, scooping a few people with them as they travelled at a high velocity and rammed into the wall opposite. The blood spatter was impressive. The reacting of the remaining people even more so.
In an instant, everyone was on high alert and focused on Naruto. Naruto didn't take the time to identify any of them as he charged into the room and was met with fierce resistance. Using his nails as daggers he dug into skin every chance he got. The number of Shinobi here were greater than there had been in the hallways, so it took longer to cut them down. And Naruto was loving every second of it.
He didn't go unscathed, but the injuries he did sustain seemed to melt away immediately by the volatile chakra flowing through him.
The first real obstacle he ran into, however, was Morino. The man suddenly appeared before him and looked beyond pissed. For a split second, Naruto felt the urge to back up and apologize for misbehaving, but that was quickly overwhelmed by other thoughts, darker thoughts that might have always been there but had now gained free range. This man had kept him in the dark...
Naruto backed up, jumping back to a dead Shinobi still clutching to a Katana. The blade was already coated in blood, though through blood spatter instead of usage. Naruto was going to change that soon enough.
Morino didn't give him much chance to respond. Before he even had a chance to admire the craftsmanship of his new weapon, Morino was already next to him. Morino swiped at him and after a few moments of back and forth, Naruto noticed that Morino never did aim for any lethal spots. The man was trying to incapacitate him, even now. Even among the carnage of his subordinates did Morino try to subdue instead of kill him. Somewhere deep down Naruto was forced to acknowledge that, and it brought a falter into his step he thought he would have killed by now. Remorse maybe, or compassion. Something like that.
Hisato appeared beside him, and he froze when he saw Morino glaring at Naruto. For a moment, Naruto wondered what Hisato was doing. He had been graceful enough for the man to let him keep his life, and now he was near him again? Naruto never expected Hisato would do that. He expected anyone to just go and hide, and be grateful for still being alive.
Both he and Morini seemed to wait for what Hisato would do next. It didn't take long for them to get an answer. Hisato stepped in between Morino and Naruto, facing Morino. Protecting Naruto. It took a few seconds for Morino and Naruto to realise what that meant. Hisato was following Naruto. Naruto had his loyalty.
An ally. A voluntary ally siding with him after killing off Hisato's coworkers right in front of him. Naruto smirked. This was good. Unexpected, but good. Maybe there would be more willing to follow him. He was going to collect them. "Hisato." Naruto spoke clearly. "Thank you." Hisato looked back quickly and smiled, then returned his attention to Morino. Hisato helped him make up his mind. The last slivers of doubt about taking on Morino disappeared and a new frenzy washed over him.
Instead of letting Hisato take his stand between Naruto and Morino, Naruto dashed past him and straight up to Morino. He stretched his fingers into a point and aimed to pierce Morino's heart.
Morino didn't move. He didn't try to avoid it. Maybe he was hoping a part of Naruto wouldn't be able to go through with it. He was wrong. Naruto's hand sank into his chest with relative ease. The warmth enclosed it tightly and barely any blood was spilt. Naruto felt the last flutters of effort of Morino's heart before it went eerily still. Naruto pulled his hand back, releasing a flow of blood and Morino dropped.
Staring at his hand, Naruto realised he didn't like this blood. It was different somehow. Like seeing his own. This wasn't interesting. This wasn't exciting. He shook his hand clean as best he could and sighed. This felt anticlimactic.
Hisato stepped up next to him. "Is he... dead?" He asked. He sounded insecure, but he stood close to Naruto, even leaned a hand on his shoulder as he looked past him at Morino.
"Yes." Naruto said. "He is."
"Alright then." Hisato said. He gave a nervous laugh stepped back a little, but he collected himself quite quickly. It was almost like Hisato had expected something like this to happen. "So what's the plan?" He asked.
"Kill everyone." Naruto replied simply. He was staring at Morino. The pool of blood underneath the man was still growing, mixing with the blood of the others he had taken down here. The blood formed a thick paste where it mixed with the dust from the broken walls.
"Yes, good plan. Then what?" Hisato asked. Naruto looked at him to find Hisato staring at him with some kind of hope in his eyes. What could he be hoping for? Well, it didn't matter much. If Hisato ever crossed him, it wasn't like Hisato could do much of anything to him. Naruto just gave him a blank stare as an answer. After a few moments passed, Hisato sighed and then smiled. "We should go find Cat." Hisato said and grinned at the surprised look on Naruto's face. Naruto didn't know Cat and Hisato knew each other, but since Hisato had been his guard for so long, and Cat his only visitor, it did make sense that they would have met at some point.
"Huh, interesting..." Naruto mused, then turned around and walked towards the village. He couldn't help the grin forming on his face. This all just got a little more interesting.
