Setting: Caspian's Reign

Y/N's POV

The breeze hit my face gently, as I ran barefoot across the grass. I took in the dewy smell of my surroundings as I made my way towards the central garden. I tried to be as quiet as possible, tip-toeing softly until I reached a spot where I knew was out of earshot of the castle. I was pleasantly surprised to see the King- er...I mean...Caspian already waiting there for me. '

"Y/N." he smiled.
"Caspian." I greeted back.

He kissed my hand, eyes locked on mine. He motioned for me to sit down on the grass, and so we both did. If it wasn't so dark, the blush dusting my cheeks would be quite evident. But he wore a more solemn and nervous expression.

"I have to talk to you about something." he broke the silence.
"Okay." I said, not entirely sure he was going to bring me good news.
"You remember the alliance, right?" he asked, his face still grim.
"Yes..."
"Well, it was...it.........it was a marital alliance. I have come here because......because we are to be betrothed."

My smiled dropped. I felt my heart skip a beat. That's why he was being so charming and sweet. He wanted to make a good first impression. And here I thought we were in love. Of course not. How naive of me.

He noticed my sudden mood swing and said, "But I don't want it to be that way."

Great. He didn't even like the idea of being betrothed to me, let alone marrying me by will. But the next thing I knew, he took my hand in one of his, and his free one made it up to my cheek. He was leaning in and I had no clue what was going on. Then, his lips were on mine. A little chapped, but I didn't care. I was blown out of my own mind!

We stayed like that for a few seconds until I pulled away.
"I thought you just said you didn't want to marry me." I said, still thoroughly confused.
"No. I do want to marry you. But I don't want to do it for my country or for power. I want to do it for love and I wanted you to know that." he said, a smile finally making its way across his face. "So. Princess Y/N L/N of Archenland, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?"
