Skip the Torture (Edmund Pevensie)
Setting: The Golden Age
Y/N's POV
I cried into my pillow, as I had been doing for the last week. It wasn't fair! Princesses from the neighbouring countries had been visiting Narnia for the past week. The Lords had been pressurising us to find a suitor for Edmund, so Peter invited them all in one week - one Princess a day. And I couldn't stand it! They were flirting with Edmund, making him blush and whatnot.
"Y/N? Can I come in?" I heard Lucy's soothing voice at the other side of the door.
I quickly dried my tears.
"Yeah. Come on in, Lu." I took one last sniffle.
As soon as she saw me, she knew I had been crying.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"It... It's nothing. You don't need to worry about me. Besides, shouldn't you be entertaining a certain princess?" I scowled the while saying the last sentence.
Lucy's mouth made an 'O' formation.
"Are they your problem?" she asked, "Are they why you've been in such a bad mood this whole week?"
I nodded ever so slightly but she noticed.
"But- but why?" her eyebrows knitted.
I didn't know how to answer.
"Hang on, I'll go get Susan. She'll know what to do." she ran out the door before I could stop her.
A few minutes later, Susan walked in, her arm linked with Lucy's.
"Y/N, are you alright?" Susan lifted my chin gently.
"Ye-"
"No, she isn't. She's been crying this whole week." Lucy cut me off.
"Why?" Susan sat down next to me.
"It's the suitors. The Princesses." Lucy sat down on my other side.
"Oh, Y/N. None of us like the suitors either. They're just a bunch of stuck-up girls who want Edmund's attention."
I grimaced when she mentioned Edmund.
"Oh, I see what's going on here. Lucy, would you close the door, please?" Susan said.
Lucy got up to close the door.
Susan said she knew that I liked Edmund, and that I should tell him how I feel. After ten minutes of arguing, I decided that I would do it, just to get the Pevensie sisters out of my hair.
"Susan, are you absolutely sure this is the best idea?" I asked, as I was about to open the door to the dining hall, where Peter and Edmund were speaking to the Princess of Terebinthia.
"Positive." Susan said, as Lucy pushed open the door.
"Sorry we're late." Lucy apologised, "We had some matters to take care of, but they're done now."
Susan and Lucy sat down at the table, but when I remained standing, Peter enquired why.
"I need to borrow Edmund for a few minutes, Pete. I'm terribly sorry, but Susan thinks it's rather important that I speak to him now." I said.
"Oh, alright. But only for a few minutes." Peter sighed.
He then apologised to the Princess. Edmund, who was happy to have an excuse to leave, got up at once and linked arms with me, taking me outside the room.
"Now, what was so important that you couldn't say it in front of the others?" Edmund asked, turning to me.
"Oh. Er..." I blushed a deep scarlet.
"Hold that thought, Y/N." he took my hands in his, "I, too, have something important to say. I've been bottling up my feelings for too long. I...I love you, Y/N. More than you would probably care to know. But-"
"I do care." I smiled at him.
"Wh- what?"
"I do care. I love you too, Ed." I caressed his cheek gently.
"Well, if I had known, we could have just skipped the torture of having all those awful Princesses to come over." he laughed.
"You can skip the torture right now, and kiss me." I said boldly.
He just smiled at me and pulled me in for a kiss. Little did I know, Susan and Lucy were busy enjoying the view from the dining room along with Peter and the now useless princess.
