No one was more excited than Y/N and Lucy to greet a Princess who would come and visit Cair Paravel. The two girls had decorated their home just to greet their guest and to the eyes of their family - Y/N being married to the youngest brother, Edmund - it was quite adorable.
As trumpets were heard, the Kings and Queens of Narnia sat on their thrones with smiles on their faces, as their guest came into the hall. A certain King had caught the eye of this Lady and, though no one noticed the mischief that appeared in her blue eyes as she smirked for a long time at the raven haired king, the Kings and Queens soon regretted having her as a guest.
"Lady Martha, it's a pleasure having you here." Y/N spoke with a genuine smile on her face.
Sadly, her kind nature was often her weakness, making the cruel take advantage of it.
"The pleasure is mine." the blonde Princess spoke, as she gave the same look to King Edmund, who stood beside his wife, making his grip on her hand tighten once he noticed her look.
The first week was Lady Martha's planning week. She would hang around the three queens - only because she needed information about Edmund, since Peter didn't like being around her. It's as if he knew she was up to no good. Whenever Peter was alone with the Princess, he rapidly walked out of the room. His sisters and Y/N found it rude, but eventually Susan caught up to it too.
The second week, she would always wake up early to catch Edmund practicing his sword fighting. She would sit on a concrete bench, watching the king in admiration.
"You're awfully strong, if I do confess, my Lord." Martha spoke, batting her lashes at the king who turned around just to roll his eyes.
"Well...thank you?" It was more of a question.
The princess laughed as she kept watching him.
"Aren't you tired? I could ask someone to bring you a drink." she chirped, smoothing out her skirt.
"No. It's fine." his tone was rather harsh, but Martha decided to ignore it and keep up her act.
"Has anyone told you, you're quite a handsome lad, Edmund?"
In that moment, Edmund stopped practicing to look at the girl. His hair was messy and his neck wet from sweat.
"Yes. My wife. She should be waking up any second now." his words only caused her to scowl.
Susan had rushed in at the same moment he finished talking, a frown on her face and worry in her eyes.
"Y/N has woken up ill, Edmund. She's asking for you. Peter said it's fine if you don't attend the meetings today. Just stay with her all day.” Susan had turned to the guest Princess, who was looking around, rather annoyed by the news.
Worry had settled on Edmund's face, as he wished it wasn't something that would leave him in pain.
"Thank you. How is she so far?"
Susan sighed, looking at him, "Fever so far, but hopefully nothing worse."
At her words, Edmund ran to their room, to the aid of his wife. Susan had left shortly after, but not before sending a warning and a glare at the guest.
"They're an awfully beautiful love. Wouldn't want something to break it. Well, I'll see you later, Lady Martha." Susan let out a soft giggle, as she caught up to her blonde brother.
As Edmund crossed the doors to their bedroom, he greeted Y/N with a warm smile and a tight hug as she was laying in bed.
"Beautiful morning, isn't it, Ed?"
The boy's expression softened, seeing her smile as she looked out the window.
"Not as beautiful as you."
"Please, I'm looking extremely ill. How beautiful can I be?"
Edmund let out a chuckle as he leaned down to leave a peck on her nose.
"You'll always look beautiful to my eyes, even if you're all wrinkled up."
Y/N sighed, smiling up at the King as she stroked his cheek, "Do you love me, Edmund?"
"My sweet Y/N, I'll love you till the end of time."
That night, Lady Martha found herself being jealous of Queen Y/N. She had seen the ill queen on her bed coughing and looking as if she was to die in a matter of seconds. She had done so, when Edmund was picking flowers for the girl. To the guest Princess, Y/N looked hideous, due to how sick she was. She was jealous of what Y/N had with King Edmund. She would hear stories of how he acted towards her and how they met. She hated those stories. She hated hearing of how one person that wasn't her, gained such attention from the one man she lusted after. But as Y/N had gotten better from the cold she had, Martha began acting up on her desires.
On the first day of the fourth week, Martha had offered to take Edmund's dirty tunics after his training to the laundry room. He would agree just to get her away from him. That happened the whole week, though the maids would take his white shirts from Lady Martha's room with their head hanging low in sheer disappointment, as a red stain always adorned the neck of the King's tunics.
It wasn't until mid of the fifth week, when both sisters and their sister-in-law walked around laughing at little jokes, that they saw one of the maids carrying his tunic. Y/N noticed the sad face the maid gave her, as she held the tunic. The three girls knew something was wrong, so they stopped her.
"Can I have the cloth, please?" Y/N asked the hesitant maid, who after a long period of seconds, had handed it to her.
Y/N analysed it - the smell of perfume that wasn't hers and the bright red lip stains on it.
"Where did you get this?"
"Lady Martha's Chambers."
"Here." Y/N spoke, before excusing herself with shakiness in her voice.
It was evident to the three girls behind her that she was crying, as her sobs became louder and she began to wipe her tears away.
Though both Lucy and Susan wanted to go after the girl, they knew she needed her time. Both swore to keep it from their older brother and made the girl in front of them swear not to tell anyone else who didn't already know of the incident.
"How long?" Lucy asked sadly.
"We noticed at the beginning of last week, but everyone down there promised not to say anything, afraid of Lady Y/N's reaction. I apologize for not letting you know."
"It's fine. You all did what you believed was best." Susan told the maid, before the sisters excused themselves to walk around the garden.
Y/N grew a little distant from her husband, as she would often find the blonde Princess in his study when he was there. She would usually be laying on the couch with her gown riding up to show Edmund her skin. It caused sadness to grow in Edmund's heart, seeing his once kind and happy wife become sad and even more quiet.
On the sixth week, Edmund found himself in the garden, picking flowers for his wife. He would often do such an act, but lately he hadn't had the time. It was noon at the time that Edmund smiled, seeing her favorite flowers look fresh and bright. Happiness filled his heart, just by thinking of the reaction on Y/N's face, but it soon died down a little, seeing their guest slip towards the King, who rolled his eyes and groaned at the sight of her. By this point, none of the Pevensie siblings liked the girl and had yearned for the moment at which she would go back to her kingdom.
"What are you doing?" Martha asked softly, looking at the flowers, touching one.
To his disagreement, Edmund looked at her, "It's best you don't touch Y/N's uncut flowers. She hates it when someone does such things."
The Princess looked down, making an 'oh' expression, before giving him a smile that was intended to be soft and loving, but to him it was useless.
"Do you think Queen Y/N would mind if I had one?"
"Uh, yeah. She definitely would." Edmund had turned around to smile at his words, but to an observing Y/N, his smile seemed to be about another matter.
Y/N had been watching from their chamber window. She saw when the princess had approached her husband. She saw how she touched her flowers. She saw Edmund's smile. She saw how he ended up one of Y/N's favourite flowers to the woman determined to steal her husband.
In reality, Edmund had grown annoyed at the Princess when she kept begging for a flower.
"Aslan, fine!" he shoved the flower into her hand, before walking away to go towards his and Y/N's vast chamber.
Once he had left, Martha's face grew angry and she touched Y/N's flowers out of anger, making sure that at least some of them would die. That only caused Queen Y/N to become even angrier and Lucy had noticed, as she was drinking tea with her sister-in-law that afternoon.
"What's wrong?" The kind and young sibling asked, looking at the girl whose eyes glistened at what she had seen.
"I want her gone, Lu. She just killed my flowers!" Y/N's head whipped to see Edmund's smiling face, as he carried a bouquet of her flowers.
Lucy knew how much the girl loved those flowers. She knew how they became her favorite, due to Edmund constantly giving her those flowers. She even remembered when Edmund planted and took care of the bushes filled with her favorite flowers just for his dear Y/N.
"Afternoon, love." he was going to kiss her lips, but Y/N moved her head, and his lips landed on her cheek for a few seconds.
He was caught off guard by her act, but ignored it as he saw Lucy looking at them with sadness in her face.
"I got some of your flowers for you. It's been a long time since I've done so."
But Y/N was looking at her hands instead, as she sat beside Lucy, whose eyes showed nothing but sadness.
Edmund noticed so and was determined to ask about his siblings' cold stares and actions towards him. It didn't hurt him much that Susan and Peter would act in such a way. He would often have conflict with them, as they were older than him. But Lucy's ignorance or rapid disappearance whenever he came around made his heart break. She was always the kind one.
"You should've let them live longer." his wife spoke emotionlessly.
Edmund just frowned sadly at her words. It was obvious to his younger sibling, as she turned around, so as to not face either of them. So instead, he walked out of the chamber rapidly, to a secluded area, where he cried his eyes out.
During the seventh week, Y/N grew even more miserable, as Martha was constantly found by Edmund's side. His siblings grew less angry, as Y/N insisted that they shouldn't be angry at him. As she read a book in the garden, Edmund looked at her with a smile on his face. He was happy to see her smile once again. He had decided to sit next his wife as she read. He wrapped an arm around her waist as he rested his head on top of hers.
She sighed, feeling his warm body embrace hers. "Edmund, do you love me?"
He took her face into his hands looking at her with warm eyes, "My sweet girl, you're my only love."
He was saddened by her question. This time, her voice was shaky, unlike the last time she asked. His lips had found hers, as they gave each other a kiss that was begging to be given weeks ago.
Their temporary happiness was gone that very night, when Edmund was in his study. Martha had burst through the doors, making him angry.
"King Edmund, my apologies for such an entrance, but due to tonight being my last night here, I must give you something I've been longing to give you and hope you consider our relationship."
And so, as he stood up to kick her out, the blonde Princess planted her lips on his as she kissed him. Edmund didn't even want to kiss her back obviously, but it was too late.
His a wife had walked in on the sight.
The two had parted, watching her go on as if she hadn't seen anything.
"You left your chess board outside." Queen Y/N softly spoke, before walking out of the study, as Martha stood there with a smirk.
Edmund was angry and as his wife left calmly, tears in her eyes once she closed the doors behind herself, she was noticed by the other three Pevensies.
"What makes you believe it's okay to do such a thing?!" Edmund was more than enraged.
He had just seen his lovely wife walk out with nothing but true sadness within her.
"King Edmund, you'll be better off with me. I love you and I'll love you more than any other woman will." Martha spoke, exasperated as Edmund paced around.
"The actual fuck. I've ignored you and wanted you gone for weeks. I obviously don't love you. Get it through your thick head: Y/N Pevensie is my wife and she will be until death do us apart."
The three Pevensies watched him walk out, rage on his face. He clenched his teeth, rushed steps walking to the chambers. They all had smirks on their face, seeing how Martha had nothing but anger showing, due to Edmund's words.
As he entered the chamber he shared with Y/N, Edmund walked to her, wrapping his arms around her. She shoved him away, but he kept insisting, seeing her stained face and hearing her scream at him while punching his chest. Edmund couldn't do anything other than choke up at her actions.
"I didn't want to believe such an affair was true. Though I had my suspicion and proof, I still wanted to believe it was nothing but a horrible nightmare!"
Y/N kept crying, trying to get away from Edmund, who kept quietly crying as he saw her own pain.
"Y/N, lov-"
"Shut up! Shut up! You don't love me. Don't act like you haven't done anything! I've seen it Edmund. Your lipstick stained tunics smelling of her perfume, I saw you giving her my own flowers, and I just saw you two kiss... Please don't lie to me again when I ask if you love me. You could've said no and I would have tried to live peacefully." she kept crying at her own words.
"I do love you! I do!" he began shouting, as he himself began to sob louder, "I fucking love you so much... You're probably the only reason I'm alive... It's such an immense love. Like the ones in fairy tales, when the husband can't live without his wife."
Edmund was crying louder as he stood, looking at her crying body laying on the warm bed.
"Then why did you do all those things?" she asked softly, as he walked closer to her.
Laying next to her on the bed, he said, "I didn't. She offered to take my clothing to the laundry room and I just wanted her gone. She was bugging me and annoying me about giving her a flower. I even told her not to touch them because you would get angry. Hell, she just burst into the study, talking about our 'relationship' as if there ever was one. The only relationship I have and will ever have and want is with you, my sweet girl."
The two sat up and as he sat her on his lap, Edmund caressed her cheek, wiping away her tears. He looked at her eyes, as they gained the warmth and happiness again. Edmund began to leave small kisses on her cheek, trailing his lips to her neck.
"Ed?"
"Yes, Love?"
"Promise me that you'll tell me if anything like this happens ever again. I believe it would literally kill me to have another heartbreak." her words were soft, as he begun to feel pleasure from his lips radiating love to her neck.
"Always. And you must promise to tell me if something is bothering you. I also believe would die from another heartbreak. I can't bare you acting cold towards me when I love you so much." Edmund smiled, holding his wife tight, "If you die, I die. Keep that in mind, Y/N."
And so she did. She had finally realised how much he loved her.
"My sweet girl. I love you so much that I can't even explain. You're my whole world and without you, I would die from sadness and loneliness." Edmund sighed, holding her tighter, afraid she would disappear if he let go.
"I love you too, Edmund. Without you, my life is incomplete."
Edmund let out a blissful sigh as they kissed once more.
"My sweet girl."
