sleeping beauty ❧ e.p

A LONG TIME AGO, when the kings and queens of old still had yet to come, a beautiful princess was born. Her father and mother, who were the king and queen at the time, were so proud of their daughter. And not only were they blown away by the little bundle of joy, but the villagers were also entranced by the new princess. She was like a gift from heaven, and even how cheesy that sounds, they couldn't thank fate enough.
But fate can also have their cruel ways.
And so, on the princesses' sixteenth birthday, she was found asleep in the woods. How strange, you may think. Didn't she get enough sleep that night? Or did she perhaps feel unwell? No, dear, it was far from that. She was in fact in a very deep sleep, you could say that she was dead, yet she still looked as healthy as ever. Everyone was deeply saddened by this cruel event, and the king and queen were heartbroken. They all tried to wake her up but failed miserably. And even when all hope was lost, the king and queen still kept believing that someone could save her. Aslan had indeed heard about this happening, and after almost a year he finally stepped in. He visited the king and queen, who were extremely grateful for his arrival, and told them he wouldn't lift the curse, as it was magic that was so powerful that even he couldn't break it. But, he promised them something else.
"The princess would stay in her deep sleep, but from her slumber, she shall awake when her true love's kiss the spell shall break."
Sadly enough, after a century, the saddening story of the princess became a fairytale. Now people only know her by the name Sleeping Beauty. Some of them believe that the princess lays in the highest tower of the castle, waiting for her true love to kiss her awake. Others believed it was just a mere story filled with heartbreak.

"-Sleeping Beauty was always one of my favorite fairytales."
"Fairytale, Susan? I think it's so much more than just a fairytale."
"I don't think so, Luce," Susan sat down on the couch next to her sister, with a copy of the Sleeping Beauty in her lap. Their mother always used to read the story to them. Well, the other version, with the evil Maleficent and the three good fairies. After they were crowned the siblings started to explore the castle, only a part of it, of course, the castle is so big that you could find something new every day! Anyways, when they came to the library they found a copy of the sleeping beauty, they were quite surprised, they didn't know that Narnians had the same fairytales as them. Could you imagine their reactions when Mr. Tumnus told them it was based on a true story? Jaws dropped and eyes wide open! Lucy was delighted to hear that the one and only sleeping beauty may be asleep in their castle! She immediately started searching for her, dedicated to seeing her favorite princess. After a few years, she stopped searching though, but she still had hoped someone would find her.
It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining bright and the proud flag of Cair Paravel was wapering in the soft wind. Edmund was going for a stroll in the woods, seems it was the perfect weather to perhaps read his newest book somewhere on a log. He wasn't going to the main garden, he was going to his garden. It's right next to the big tower, and the only way to enter is hidden behind trees and plants. Edmund continued walking until he saw something shiny in the corner of his eyes. Out of pure curiosity, he walked towards the shining object, and when he walked close enough he saw that it was a key. It was a golden key, with a bit of rust, and it had a particular shape. Edmund wondered from where the key was, maybe the door is nearby. The only thing around him were walls covered in ivy- perhaps if he would pull the ivy off the walls, maybe he would find a door? Edmund felt like a small child again and took some ivy off the walls until he found what he sought. A door. The key fit perfectly in the keyhole and when he opened the door, all he saw was a dark tower with stairs spiraling to above. Next to the door was luckily a torch, which Edmund quickly lightened and with no second thought he started walking up the stairs.
It felt like he walked an eternity when he finally reached the end of the stairs. It seemed like there was a room, and Edmund thought about The Sleeping Beauty for a moment- wouldn't it be funny if she layed in there? Edmund scoffed and opened the door, only to be met with the figure of a sleeping girl. His breath stopped and his whole body froze, did he just found The Sleeping beauty on accident? His mind raced as he looked at the princess, she was just as described in the stories. Beautiful.
Edmund got a sudden urge to kiss her. Was it because of her curse? Would he?... No, he can't kiss a corpse!- But it isn't really a corpse too, she's just in a very deep sleep!- Do I need to ask permission first? It wouldn't be nice to touch a woman without permission- How dumb, she's in a coma, she can't answer!- She has waited long enough too, maybe I just need to give it a try?
Edmund truly didn't know what to do, so he just followed his gut. So he walked towards the girl and brushed some hairs out of her face, and then he kissed her. It wasn't quick, but it wasn't slow, it felt perfect. He pulled away just to see her opening her eyes. She blinked a few times to adjust to the overwhelming light- Edmund was once again speechless, and not only because she was mesmerizing, but also because he just kissed The Sleeping Beauty awake.
"Where am I? Who are you?"
"I- I am Edmund,"
"Mother! Father!," Edmund just remembered that she probably didn't know about all that happened, including the death of her parents. He couldn't imagine the heartbreak she would feel,
"Your mother and father aren't exactly here."
"What do you mean? I was just taking a walk in the woods and now I wake up in a room, which I don't know, and there is a stranger standing at my side! No offense-"
"-No offense taken, please allow me to take you to my siblings, they will know what to do," Edmund offered her his hand which she accepted, and he led her down the stairs. Edmund noticed that she wasn't wearing any shoes,
"I always lose them somehow, I don't search for them because I know they will somehow turn up again. Searching is just a waste of time,"
"Do I need to carry you?"
"That's a kind offer, but I am willing to walk. It feels like I haven't walked in forever!" Edmund felt a smile growing and nodded, special she was indeed. They continued walking, getting some stares from villagers. Who was the pretty girl with the king? The princess was questioning why so much had changed in the few hours she was gone- was this one of the surprises for her birthday? She noticed how the color of the stone pavement faded a lot, and how the small houses of villagers looked more stable. How her favorite bookshop had become bigger, how the bakery seemingly got a new employee, how the flowers of her friend's garden have changed. While she was deep in her thoughts, a little girl walked over to her. The little girl had a petite flower in her hands, with the same color as her dress. The small girl tugged on her dress, in which (Y/N) looked to her side and turned towards the girl.
"Oh, what a beautiful flower you have! What is your name, sweetheart?"
"My name is Lilly."
"Lilly. What a pretty name. My name is (Y/N)," The girl, named Lilly, gifted the flower to the princess. In which she put her hand over her heart and smiled, thanking the little girl. Lilly ran back to her friends who were all watching with awe-struck or curious expressions. (Y/N) gave a small wave and turned back to Edmund, who was bewitched (in a good way of course!) by the simple act that just happened in front of him. The princess and king stepped towards the big wooden doors and walked inside. His siblings were nowhere in sight, so he guessed they were in the study. They walked side by side towards the study, and when he opened the door three pairs of eyes were staring at him.
"Edmund? Who's that?" Peter questioned. He looked confused just as his two sisters. But unlike Susan and Peter, something in Lucy clicked.
"Is that-"
"-Yes."
"Are you talking about me?"
"What are you two talking about?" Edmund opened his mouth and closed it again. Thinking what in the world he needed to say. So he just did what the most logical thing of all was, telling everything from in the beginning. (Y/N) watched as the expressions from the 2 girls and boy changed every minute.
"Wait- you kissed me? Why in the name of Aslan would you do that?"
"You don't know?"
"What do I need to know? Please- I just want to see my family," The three now looked at her in pity, again. You didn't tell her? Susan mouthed to Edmund. I panicked! Edmund mouthed back.
Lucy stood up and walked towards the table, where a book laid. She picked up the book and sat next down to (Y/N). She opened the first page and began reading. And they sat like this until it was dawn, reading each page carefully. And soon everything begins to click in her mind, her throat felt dry and her eyes became glossy. She lost everything. She already felt heartbreak before, but it was nothing compared to this. It felt like she was dying, being eaten alive, her heart torn apart, and left for her to fix again. When lucy finished reading the last page she stood up, together with Peter and Susan. They left the study and now it was only Edmund and (Y/N).
"Why does it hurt so much?" That simple sentence broke Edmund's heart, he would take all her pain if it was possible. He brought her into a hug and softly ran his fingers through her hair. The princesses completely broke down and tears started to stream down her porcelain skin.
"You will get through this, and I will be with you every step. You're my one true love after all. "
"Thank you,"
"Anything."
