Peter sighed and walked down the Cair Paravel halls, sleepless from the past few night's sadness and joy all rolled into one.
Sheth and Lena had been born ago nearly a month ago. Two days after they had been born Lena had died.
Peter hadn't been able to sleep well since then.
He stood on the balcony in silence, angry tears rolled down his cheeks, the wind sweeping them away into the unknown.
Suddenly footsteps behind him made him turn around. A little girl peered at him curiously, her bright blue eyes twinkling and her thick blonde hair was in two braids. She had a yellow and blue dress on and had mismatched ribbons in her hair.
"Daddy?" She questioned. He shook his head.
"No. I'm not your daddy." He turned back around, thinking she had left.
She stood closer to him and looked over the railing.
"What are you looking at?" She asked curiously.
"Nothing."
"So, you're blind?" She asked. He smiled and looked back down at her.
"No. I'm not blind, silly. Sometimes people just stare off into nothingness, does that make sense?"
"Nope! Not really." She raised an eyebrow and looked over to the direction he was looking, the ocean.
"Aslan's country is really pretty. It's bright and never rains." She stated, looking warily at the dark rainclouds coming in.
"How would you know?"
"I've been there!" She exclaimed, giggling slightly.
"Huh? How did you get there?" He asked, now focusing on her entirely nown
"I died."
He stared at her closer.
"Who are you?" He asked breathlessly. She shook her head, her braids swinging side to side.
"Mummy said you would know, she said I look more like you, I don't know why she said that because you both have blonde hair and I've got blonde hair, I told her that and she said it was the eyes and nose, but i can't see my eyes.. or my nose really." She crossed her eyes and focused on her nose fr a moment, then looked back at Peter.
"Lena?" He gasped out, tears filling his eyes again.
Her eyes widened.
"You do know my name!" She exclaimed excitedly. He scooped her up and held her close.
"Of course I know your name!" He whispered. She laughed, the most precious sound he had ever heard in the world at the moment.
"Let me go! Is it gonna rain soon?" She squirmed out of his arms and looked over the railing back at the rain clouds. He looked just as thunder rolled in the distance and lightning flashed.
"Yes, most likely."
"Okay, goody!" She watched, completely unafraid of the rain or thunder and lighting.
"Lena-"
"Peter, what are you doing?"
Peter turned around and saw Edmund watching him with a confused expression, Elora was behind him.
"I was-"
"He was watching the ocean!" Lena interrupted. Peter nodded.
"Ooh! And who's this lovely companion you have here?" He asked. She giggled for the third time.
"I'm Lena! And your Uncle Edmund and Auntie Elora! Aslan told me." She bounced excitedly. Edmund looked confused, then smiled widely, he glanced up to see Peter watching them.
"Well little Lena, what are you doing when there is a storm coming in?" He asked. She smiled, then pouted a bit.
"I'm watching the rain. There's no rain in Aslan's country." She said happily as it began to drizzle.
Elora played with the end of Lena's braid as the little girl watched the rain in awe.
After it finished raining she kissed Peter's cheek.
The balcony doors opened Aslan was standing just in them, he looked at Lena. Who nodded and turned to Peter.
"I have to go. I love you." She ran through the doors. She then began talking to Aslan.
"I saw it raining, I don't likd rain as much as I thought. It makes the air smell funny, not it a bad way though just.... strange. Did you know that sometimes people stare off into nothingness..."
Aslan smiled at Peter and then the doors shut, both Lena and Aslan were gone.
Edmund looked at the doors before smirking slightly.
"She's quite the talker, isn't she?" He said, Peter nodded, smiling widely.
"Must be an inherited trait." Elora mused under her breath. Peter laughed.
Edmund silently thanked Aslan for the blessing they all had.
