37: Fried
Edmund bit his lip and made a face at the things on his plate.
Elora gagged a little gulped for air.
Peter looked away from his plate.
Susan reached for a fan and fanned her face.
Lucy plugged her nose and closed her eyes.
Alana stared at her plate until Peter thought she would crack it with just looks.
The fried grubs and various fried bugs was obviously not top choice for the Narnia royals. The Lone Islanders thought they were a delicacy though and they were trying to make a good impression.
"I can't eat that." Elora finally stated, breaking the silence. Everyone nodded in agreement.
"I don't think it is edible." Lucy poked at the bugs with her fork. Elora watched, looking greener and more sick every moment.
"Are you okay?" Edmund asked as Elora closed her eyes and leaned back in her seat. Her hand over her mouth as if she was going to throw up.
"No. I'm not okay. I'm about to throw up. I feel sick." She said, muffled by her hand.
Peter smelled his plate and went into a gagging fit.
"I agree with Lucy. It's not edible."
"But we can't just not eat it. We are here to make a good impression." Edmund looked at the food in disgust.
"The smell-"
Elora broke off and ran out of the room gagging and looking sick. Edmund followed.
After a moment. Alana spoke up.
"W-we could put it in our pockets and throw it outside." She said uncertainty.
Peter pushed his plate away.
"I'm not putting that in my pockets. I'm not touching it." He said.
Alana shrugged. Susan seemed to be deep in thought.
"We could see if the owls would want them." She said finally. Lucy grinned and opened the window instantly one of their owl messengers appeared.
"Would you and your family want these?" She asked. Showing him the plate. His yellow-green eyes lit up.
"Oh yes! Queen Lucy." He exclaimed. Lucy grinned. Finding a basket she dumped all the bugs off everyone's plates into the basket. She handed it to the owl.
"Thank you!" He exclaimed, flying away. Lucy watched for a moment, then shut the window with a snap.
"Alright. I like the landscape and people here but the food here is nasty." She said quietly.
Peter and Susan both nodded.
And from that day on the rulers of Narnia always brought owls on their visits to The Lone Islands, just in case any insects were ever served again.
