Twenty Two
Jin and Yoongi sat across from one another at the table, staring down at their food. For the usually stoic and confident Yoongi, he sure was awkward.
Jin didn’t know what to say, so there was no conversation. Nothing.
It was just a silent dinner, the two of them hyper aware of each other’s presence, but too awkward to say anything. Jin finally took a sip from his wine glass and cleared his throat. “Thank you...for dinner Hyung, but it really wasn’t necessary.” Yoongi simply shrugged, giving the male a small smile.
“I felt like I owed you at least something. And I was free tonight.” Jin released a shaky exhale, nodding.
“I don’t expect things from you for doing what was right.”
“Which is why I took you out. And there is something I would like to discuss with you.” Jin slowly looked up at Yoongi, tilting his head.
“Y-Yes?”
“Some of the others have taken notice that you have changed. Normally I would not care, but you are the best caregiver I and my son has ever had. You actually give a shit about my son and not just me and my money. So I’m concerned as to why you seem to be losing weight and are more tired as of late.”
“O-oh.” Jin sighed.
“I understand that it must be hard for you, having your brother leaving so suddenly, for such a long period of time, but the changes you have undergone are something much different than just the feeling of loss or missing someone. What’s going on?”
Jin wanted to tell him. The words danced right at the edge of his tongue.
But years of fear and terror was stronger than any courage Jin could have mustered up for himself. He couldn’t tell Yoongi, he was terrified, because then he would retaliate, and Jin didn’t want him to do anything, Jin was too scared. Petrified with fear, even when the man wasn’t anywhere near him.
“I…” He finally whispered. “I...Y-Yejun’s new tutor.” Jin finally said.
Yoongi sat straighter, leaning towards Jin. “Is something wrong with him?”
Jin slowly shook his head. “H-he used to be a h-high school teacher.”
“Yes, that’s correct.” Yoongi relaxed a little sitting back. He furrowed his eyebrows, however. “You don’t trust high school teachers?” Jin nodded his head in affirmation. Yoongi sighed, nodding in understanding. “May I ask why?”
“I-um….” Jin sighed, closing his eyes a bit. “They’re painful memories.” He finally settled on.
“The one who gave you those scars…” Yoongi said carefully, slowly. “Was he one of your teachers in high school?”
Jin could only nod, not saying anything more.
“So you have trust issues with all high school teachers, and the fact that Desung is now Yejun’s tutor and he was a high school teacher, you are wary around him.” Yoongi nodded as he came to this understanding, even if it wasn’t the whole truth. “You don’t have to attend lessons with Yejun.” Yoongi finally said. “I trust him.”
Jin suddenly shook his head. “I-it’s Fine.” He managed. “I just...it’s stupid, and I n-need to get over it. It...happened a long time ago.”
“What...did he do to you? If you don’t mind me asking. I know you said it was hard memories, but you are part of my family now, and I care about you.” Jin felt a small blush forming on his cheeks at the older’s words. He nodded slowly, looking down at his food once again.
“Tae and I...we lived with our foster parents.” Jin finally explained. “They...weren’t the nicest people. They never hit us or anything, but they weren’t very nice with their words. They didn’t care for us, we were just a monthly check in the mail for them, and they never cared to cover that fact up. S-So I just...needed to g-graduate high school and college as fast as possible, get a job…”
“So that you could claim guardianship over your brother.” Jin nodded.
“I...struggled with one of my classes. A-and there was t-this new teacher...h-he was young, barely older than me...and h-he offered to tutor me privately.” Jin gulped taking a long sip of his wine. “He...was nice. But I guess they always are in the beginning, huh? W-well overtime we…” Jin sighed. “I was just a-starting to experiment...with girls a-and guys and stuff, a-and I was always with him, so I grew...attached.”
“You had an affair with a high school teacher?” Jin nodded, biting his lower lip. “H-he started out with words. Talking me down...p-pressuring me to do things with him. Until one day he slapped me. He said he was sorry, and I forgave him. T-then he started smoking a-and drinking…” Jin trailed off. His face grew paler, jut remembering everything. “H-he blamed me for it...s-started cutting me and burning me with the butt of his cigarettes. T-told me That he would fail me, that he could, if I told anyone, if I tried to get away from him…”
“You don’t have to continue if you don’t want to.” Yoongi said gently. “It’s okay.” Jin sighed, nodding slowly. “But May I ask how you got away from him?”
“I graduated.” Jin whispered.
“But what year did you meet him?”
Jin let out a small laugh, shaking his head slightly.
“Freshman year.”
