Thirty Six

Taehyung walked down the road, no luggage, nothing but his wallet and phone on him, as well as the clothes on his back.

He didn’t come to stay. As much as he wanted to, he didn’t. He was merely here to make amends with Namjoon, Jungkook and his brother. He’d spend a day or two at the most, that was the plan. He didn’t want to seem like he was running away again, but he had dropped everything, and he did have classes and such to attend to. This was an unplanned trip and Taehyung had told nobody, except for his roommate, but even that had been by a simple note seeing as he had left so suddenly.

Taehyung didn’t have a lot of money on him, so he decided to walk. Yoongi’s house wasn’t that far away from the airport, maybe a thirty to forty minute walk through the city, and Taehyung thought that it would give him some time to cool down and think about what he wanted to say, what he would say when he saw his brother, but most worrisome, Jungkook and Namjoon.

Taehyung never got the full walk, however. Instead, he had to run into none other than Jungkook as he was walking past a row of shops.

Jungkook stopped on the sidewalk, staring wide eyed at Taehyung when he noticed the boy standing there. Taehyung didn’t know what to say and simply walked up to the man and looked up at him, just as silent as Jungkook was.

But the man eventually seemed to find his voice. “T-taehyung…”

“H-hey.” He replied, looking down shyly, feeling a blush of shame already coating his cheeks as he stood in front of the man.

“Y-you’re back…”

“Just...for a little while.”

“Just a little while?”

“Y-yeah...I-I actually came to speak with...you. You a-and N-namjoon hyung.”

“Oh...about...that night?”

That night.

That night, which was now about six months past. That night when Taehyung had allowed himself to fall into his feelings and let them take over as he tasted what it would be like to be with Jungkook and Namjoon in a way that he’d only dreamed about. That night which Taehyung experienced pleasure other than his hand for the first time.

That night which had ruined everything.

“I-I suppose so…” Taehyung whispered, looking over at one of the buildings now, anywhere but where Jungkook stood.

“I’m...meeting Namjoon for lunch in a few minutes...I suppose you should come with me, then.” Taehyund nodded and wordlessly followed the man as he led them to a small little restaurant, hidden in a small alley.

Inside was well lit, the tables all set up to one end, the other half of the room bare of anything, which Taehyung found a little strange, but he didn’t question it.

Soft, traditional music was playing in the background, and Taehyung found himself focusing in on it to calm himself as he made his way over to the table that he spotted Namjoon at, Jungkook blocking his body from the man’s view.

Namjoon looked up from his phone when he saw Jungkook, smiling and standing to kiss his lover. But when he looked over Jungkook’s shoulder for a brief second, he froze, his eyes widening in shock and his mouth hanging open.

“T-taehyung…” He said almost breathlessly. Taehyung once again found his eyes averted from the man’s face, too ashamed to look at him in the eyes. “I’m so glad that you’re back.”

Surprised, Taehyung didn’t do anything but stand there as Namjoon moved and scooped up the boy into his arms, hugging him tightly as if he would slip away once again in just a blink of an eye.

Taehyung gasped softly, but otherwise allowed the man to hug him, relaxing into his hold and eventually wrapping his own arms around him.

Namjoon eventually pulled away and they sat down, descending into a rather awkward silence. A waitress came and took their orders which helped for a few minutes, before she left, leaving the three men to struggle and figure out what to say to one another.

But finally, Namjoon opened his mouth and started, knowing that they would spend the rest of the meal in silence if they didn’t speak soon. “Are you here for long?” He asked Taehyung. A simple question, one to simply get a conversation going, one to lead them into more harder topics that none of them were very eager to dip into.

“No.” Taehyung said quietly. “Only a day or two. I’m skipping some of my classes to be here. We didn’t have a break or anything, but I wanted to come.”

“Why?” Jungkook asked gently, prodding the boy to speak.

Taehyung cleared his throat and sat a bit straighter, finally looking at the two men. “I felt guilty.” He finally admitted. “Leaving...the day, without talking to you both. I was...embarrassed, and I didn’t really know what to think. We hadn’t really talked much about anything, and I freaked out the next morning.”

The two men nodded in understanding. “We...well I’m not going to lie, it hurt a lot when we woke up the next morning to find you completely gone. You hadn’t just left the room, you literally left the country to get away from us, and it hurt. But I know that there’s probably an explanation as to why, but I won’t push you to give it to me if you don’t want to.” Namjoon said.

“You really have no obligation to tell us anything, or explain anything to us.’ Jungkook continued. “But we would like to know why. We’ve...felt a little empty, like something has been missing, ever since you left.”

Taehyung was surprised by these words, but he found himself nodding and clearing his throat. “I…” His voice died out as soon as he had started to speak. He didn’t know where to begin, didn’t even know if he had the courage to say it.

But Taehyung steeled himself anyway. He had to tell them, had to get this off of his chest, and if worse came to worse and they rejected him, then he would simply go back to school and not come home until he was done schooling in five or six years. “I like you.” He finally managed, but it was barely just above a whisper. “The both of you.” He clarified. “It’s just...it felt wrong and it still does to me. You guys are so happy together, and you’ve been together for so long, and I didn’t know what came over me, it just hit me one day, that perhaps I liked one of you, or perhaps the both of you, but I just...I didn’t want to come in between the two of you. But then that night happened and it was amazing and everything felt right, but then I woke up the next morning and everything just came crashing back to me, and I just...I ran. Because that’s what I tend to do. I run. I run away, far away, and I don’t look back until the guilt tears me apart and keeps me up at night and--”

Jungkook cut him off from rambling with a kiss to the lips. Taehyung squeaked in surprise, his eyes wide open. Jungkook pulled away and smiled at the boy. “You are one of the most adorable messes I have ever met, Kim Taehyung.”

“You shouldn’t have run away. We...well we talked the next morning, and we discussed things, but we didn’t think that you would ever come back, let alone look at either of us in the face when you returned. But...we both like you, too.”

Taehyung sat there, shocked, his eyes wide.

“And if you wanted...we’d like to try a relationship with you. I know that right now might not be the best time, seeing as you’re staying in another country and going to school, but don’t let that stop you, we want you to be happy and do the things that you love. But we’d still like to try, even if it is long distance.”

Taehyung found himself nodding to what Jungkook was proposing.

“So…” Namjoon said softly. “Would you like to be our boyfriend, Kim Taehyung?”

Taehyung was nodding, nodding to everything that the men were saying. He was finally able to formulate words when it dawned on him that the two of them were waiting for his verbal response, not just his mindless head nodding.

“Yes…” He finally said breathlessly.
