Seventeen
Yoongi decided that he wanted to drive Yejun to school today.
Jin didn’t go with them this time, having to attend a class of his own. Hoseok dropped him off, telling him that he would be in the same spot he’d dropped him off at after his class ended.
Jin walked inside of his campus, finding his seat and settling his things down. Jaebum slid into the seat beside him a few minutes later.
“Why don’t you just come with us?” Jin finally asked.
“Because I don’t live at the house. And wouldn’t it be suspicious if I arrived with you?”
“No. We’re friends, we can carpool.” Jin said shrugging. “We pick you up every morning, we attend the same classes and then head home. Saves gas, more reciente, lots of college kids do it.” Jaebum nodded, smiling.
“You’re smart, I like that. But still, I love driving my baby (his car) here everyday. Plus it’s easier to follow you.” Jaebum winked and Jin scoffed, turning as the professor walked into class.
As usual, Jaebum complained about how boring it was and how Jin could stand lectures like this. And as usual, Jin ignored him and took notes, like the attentive student that he was.
After class, Jin walked over to Hoseok’s car and slid inside, shuffling the rest of his papers into his bag as the man drove off, heading back towards the house.
About halfway there, though, Hoseok suddenly stopped, pulling to the side of the road. “Jin, I want you to listen very carefully.” He said, his voice low and serious.
“What?” Jin let out a nervous laugh. “Hoseok? Hoseok? What’s going on?” Jin asked, once he realized that Hoseok wasn’t joking around.
“Were being followed. Put this on.” Hoseok handed him a face mask, and Jin’s hands started to shake as he placed it on. “They’ll want a picture of your face. Try to shield as much of it as you can, Okay? You’ll remain safe if your face is not recognized or seen. I want you to get out of this car and walk into that building right there.” Hoseok pointed to a small little cafe, brimming with customers. “They won’t strike if you’re somewhere populated. Order something, grab a seat. Call Yoongi as soon as you do. I’m going to dive off and try to get them to follow me instead, but if someone tries to speak to you or do something, ignore them, they won’t grab you out in the open, Okay?”
Jin nodded, inhaling a shaky breath.
His first taste of the mafia and it was just as horrifying and scary as he thought.
“Call Yoongi Hyung, Okay? Everything will be fine if you do everything I say. Nothing will happen to you.” Jin nodded and slung his backpack around his back, slowly opening the car door.
He looked around, but didn’t see anything. Maybe it was for the best that he didn’t see anything.
He turned, facing the cafe he was to enter. He quickly walked in and got into line, grateful when a group of girls came in right after him and stood behind him. They were high school girls, so he knew they couldn’t possibly hold some kind of threat.
He ordered a hot chocolate, moving to one of the tables further in the back, away from the windows, but still somewhere we’re a lot of people were sitting.
He brought out his phone and quickly dialed Yoongi’s number, his hand shaking as he held it to his ear.
“Hello?” A low voice answered.
“Hyung.” Jin managed, his voice shaky.
“Jin? Is that you? Where is Hoseok?”
“H-Hoseok Hyung said that someone was f-following us and drove off.”
“Where are you?”
“I-umm...some cafe. He told me to stay here and call you.”
“Is your face covered?”
“Y-Yes.”
“Good. Look around slowly, is there anyone suspicious there? Anybody looking at you too long?” Jin looked around.
“N-no. Just a group of high school girls.”
Jin heard a dry laugh from the other end. “I’ll be right there then. Don’t turn your phone off, I’m tracking your location, and do not move until I come in and get you myself. Ignore anybody who tries to talk to you, Alright?”
“O-Okay.”
“Everything will be fine. I’ll be there in a few minutes.” Yoongi’s voice grew softer as he said that. “Just hang in there, Okay?”
“O-Okay. Thanks Hyung.” Jin whispered, turning his phone off.
He cradled the mug of hot chocolate in his hand, occasionally slipping it. He kept his eyes firmly down cast, praying that no one would approach him.
But luck was not on his side.
He let out a shaky breath as he saw someone slide into the seat out of the corner of his eye. He hoped it was Yoongi, but knew that it wasn’t.
He slowly lifted his eyes.
And wished that maybe one of the stalkers had slid into the seat.
But it wasn’t.
It was something worse.
