Nineteen

Taehyung bit his lower lip, pacing around the room. He didn’t know how he was going to talk to Jin about this. He’d found it a couple of weeks ago, and from encouragement from Namjoon and Jungkook, he’d done it. He’d applied, but now that he’d been accepted and the truth of it looked over him, he really didn’t have a clue about how he was supposed to bring up the fact to his brother.

The fact that he was leaving.

Yoongi had already okayed it, already paid for it, too. Taehyung had spent many hours thanking him, much to the man’s discontent.

He was pacing in front of the doors, waiting for his brother to return home.

He turned when the two doors open, and blanked when Jin walked in. Because he wasn’t ready. He’d been hyping himself up, planning out everything he was going to say...but now that Jin was in front of him, he couldn’t think of a single way to start this conversation.

Jin looked up from staring at his feet as he followed Yoongi into the home. Taehyung was standing there, his eyes wide and seemingly frozen.

“Taehyung...is something wrong?”

“N-no.” The boy managed to stutter out. “Nothings wrong.” He finished, keeping his voice more steady this time.

“Okay.” Jin hushed out, going back to staring at his feet, and shuffling off towards his room.

“Did something happen today?” Taehyung asked, his eyebrows furrowed, following after his brother.

“J-Just some things.” Jin waved off.

“Are you Alright? You look pale? You aren’t thinking about…”

“No.” Jin muttered. “I’ve been keeping up with my meds, Tae, it’s okay, you don’t have to keep worrying about me.” Taehyung relaxed hearing that.

“I know. You’ve seemed so much happier being here. I’m glad.” Taehyung let out a small smile. “But if something happens, you know I’m always here for you. You may have found new friends, maybe even a new family, but we’ve been together through thick and thin and I will always be your brother.”

Jin turned to look at Taehyung, his eyes wide. “Where are you going?” He finally breathed out.

Taehyung blinked rapidly, his mouth falling open. “W-What do you mean?”

“You sound like you’re saying goodbye.” Jin said, walking towards Taehyung and placing his hands on his shoulders. “Where are you going?”

Taehyung sighed and looked down, taking in a deep breath and trying to calm himself. “I enrolled in a foreign exchange student program.” He finally admitted. Taehyung flinched away, looking like Taehyung had hit him.

“W-What?”

“I’ve already spoken to Mr. Min about it and everything has been settled. I’ve been accepted and it’s already been p-paid for and I’m supposed to leave in two days.” Taehyung just blurted out, a shamed blush coating his cheeks as he looked down.

“W-Why...didn’t you tell me?” Jin finally managed to stutter out between his shock.

“I didn’t know how to.” Taehyung whispered. “I know that you couldn’t always see me when I s-still lived with...them, but this time I’m going to be so far away and I’m attending college there, too—“ Jin inhaled a sharp gasp of breath, feeling his eyes water.

No, this couldn’t be.

He didn’t want to hold his brother back, but Jin was scared.

He contemplated telling Taehyung about Desung and what he’d found out today, but then he shook his head. He was being selfish.

Stop being such a selfish bitch.

No, Jin couldn’t hold Taehyung back from what he wanted, couldn’t stop him from fulfilling a dream of his, and Jin knew, knew all too well that Taehyung had always wanted to travel, see what school was like in different countries. And this was such a good opportunity for him…

That’s right. Just be a pussy, a little coward like you always are.

Jin shook his head, biting his lower lip. “I...I’m happy for you.” He finally whispered out.

Taehyung released a relieved smile, letting out a short laugh. “I love you, Hyung.” Taehyung muttered, rushing over and enveloping his brother into a tight hug. “I’ll miss you.”

“I know this is something you’ve always wanted to do. I’m happy for you.” Jin repeated. Taehyung hugged Jin even closer.

“Hey...But are you sure you’re okay? You seem shaken up and the last time I saw you like this...well…” Jin shook his head.

“N-no, nothing like that.” Jin assured, hoping his lie would stick. “J-Just...someone followed H-Hoseok and I today.” He finally admitted, covering up the real fact as to why he was so terrified.

“Oh…” Taehyung bit his bottom lip. “That’s right, you found out about...the business.”

“Don’t call it that. It’s a crime syndicate, and you know it.” Jin suddenly scolded. “I can’t believe you did jobs for them!” Jin grabbed at Taehyung’s ear, twisting it.

“Ow! I’m sorry! I’m sorry Hyung!” Taehyung pleaded, trying to get his brother to release him. Jin snorted, and finally with mercy, released his brother.

Taehyung rubbed his ear, pouting.

Jin gave a small smile of relief.

Because he’d effectively changed the subject.
