Chapter 1: Outing

**Nanami POV**

"Oi Nanami! Hurry up! Why are you walking so slow today!?" Gojo called after me.

I pushed the frames of my glasses further up my nose and put my phone back in my pocket. He was always dragging me out to do things with him, and it was exhausting.

But it was less exhausting than trying to turn him down.

We were walking down a street lined with shops and restaurants where there was a crowd of people on each side of the street, all enjoying the nice weather of the afternoon.

It was one of the first warmer days in a few weeks, and it seemed everyone was just as eager to get out as Gojo was.

He held a couple bags in his hands from our previous stops, and we were making our way to one of his favorite places for lunch. I had never been, but he said it was worth the money.

"Mmm, what's this?" he smirked and cut across me to enter into a small shop.

I sighed as he cut me off and pushed by me as if I wasn't even there. I looked over to see he went into a bookstore.

Strange considering I don't think I've ever seen him read anything, but I followed him inside.

I had actually been meaning to go a bookstore for something new to read, so it was convenient. I never usually enjoyed any of our stops.

A small bell chimed as I walked inside and I saw Gojo making his way over to a young woman. I rolled my eyes as I realized that's the reason he came in.

I watched as he approached her, and she stopped stacking the books in her hand to greet him.

She looked young and was a bit taller than most. Her curly, dark hair was pulled back messily out of her face showcasing her ears that held multiple piercings.

I felt myself staring more than I ever did at anyone. Her smile was perhaps the most enchanting thing I had ever seen, and it's brightness was pulling me in.

I couldn't lie that she was mesmerizing, but she didn't seem like Gojo's typical type. He usually went after women who dressed lavishly and had a somewhat seductive look.

This girl though, she wasn't nearly as composed. She wore simple jeans that rose high on her hips, and her white tank top stopped just short of them showing a small sliver of her skin.

She had on sandals and wore more rings than I felt was probably necessary, but it suited her style. She was definitely intriguing.

I watched as she laughed at something Gojo said, and he seemed to be quiet pleased with himself. He always did have a way of luring in women.

I was just surprised someone that looked as down to earth as she did was falling for it.

I slowly made my way through the shelves of books, inching my way closer towards them as I browsed.

I glanced over as she spoke, "Please excuse me, Gojo. I should check if my other customer needs any assistance."

"Eh? That's just Nanami! Don't worry about him, he's not a customer. He's with me," he flashed a smile at her.

I looked at him as he spoke about me. I actually was a customer hoping to buy something, but I didn't need any help so it didn't matter.

Besides, despite my interest, my personality would probably clash completely with someone like her.

I was composed and tame, always have been, and even though I would love to get to know her, she seemed a bit too free-spirited to have an interest in me.

I glanced back at her to see she was staring at me with a smile. It was a strange feeling, but I felt the inside of my chest heat up just slightly at the sight.

"Your names Nanami? Is that right?" she spoke up a bit louder to catch my attention.

I nodded once as I attempted to return her smile. It didn't come very naturally me for whatever reason.

She made her way towards me, and I noticed Gojo look a little shocked that she just left him standing there.

"I'm Y/n," she introduced as she looked down at the book I held in my hand. A random one that caught my interest as I was browsing.

"That's a good choice," she smiled. "Memoirs are my favorite, and that's probably in my top 10."

I looked at the cover and turned it over to glance at the back of it, "I actually didn't realize it was a memoir."

"Mm? Are you not a fan of the genre?" she tilted her head slightly. Her mannerisms were just as cute as the rest of her.

"Just not very familiar with it."

"You have to read it! And when you do, you should come back and tell me what you think."

I glanced over her shoulder to see Gojo coming towards us again.

"Like a book club. How adorable," he smirked. "And what do I have to do to get an invitation?"

She laughed a bit, "You're more than welcome to join. My boss will be thrilled if I sell two copies of the same book."

Now talking to her face to face, it seemed she was completely unaffected by Gojo's antics, and I could tell it was bothering him too. I don't think he was used to women not automatically drooling over him.

"Or I can help you find another book?" she offered me.

"No, that's alright. This one should be fine."

"I really think you'll love it. Her prose is some of the best I've ever read."

"So, Y/n, are you busy tonight?" Gojo cut in again, smiling at her as he fixed his glasses. "We're going to a small party. You should come."

She scrunched her face a bit, "But it's a Wednesday?"

"Eh? So?" he laughed. "Do you have school or something?"

She smiled, "Actually, yes. I have class first thing in the morning."

"What!? I was just joking! How old are you?!"

"22," she chuckled at his response. "I'm in my last semester of uni."

"What do you study?" I asked her, genuinely curious.

"I am a double major. Art and literature."

"Hmm?" Gojo eyed her. "And what's your plan with that?"

She shook her head, "Oh, no plan. I just enjoy wasting my money."

I smirked slightly at her response. I liked her dry cheekiness. It was unexpected.

"So," she looked back at me. "Would you like to purchase it?"

"Sure. I've been looking for something new to read."

I followed her to the register with Gojo strolling behind. He placed his elbows on the counter, resting his head in his hands.

"Are you sure you can't come tonight, Y/n?" he asked
again.

She spoke as she rang up the book, "How about this? I have some art in a showcase downtown this weekend. Would you two like to come?"

She looked between the both of us as she smiled.

"A show?" I asked. "That's impressive."

She laughed as she held onto my eyes, "You should save the compliments until you actually see my art, Nanami."

There it was again. That warm rush through my chest. It surged through me as she said my name.

I don't think I've ever loved the sound of anything more than her laugh and her voice, especially when she was speaking my name.

"We'll be there," Gojo smiled as he handed her his phone. "Let me have your number so you can send over the information."

"I'll do you one better," she winked at him before turning around and grabbing two small cards.

"You have business cards?" I looked over it closely.

She laughed, "Yea, it's for potential commissions. The art community is much more formal than you'd expect."

She handed me a small bag with the book inside it, "The show is Saturday night at 9pm. Just text me if you guys want to come, and I'll get you on the list."

Gojo smirked, "A list huh? So you're more ostentatious than you look."

"Mm, totally," she teased. "Also, the event is formal, so make sure to dress up a bit."

"We'll see you soon then, Y/n!" Gojo said as he left towards the door, and I offered a small smile as I turned to follow him.

"Oh, and Nanami," she called out.

I paused to look back, "Yes?"

"Make sure you come back so we can talk about the book," she bit her lip softly as she smiled at me.

"Of course," I bowed my head softly before walking out. I couldn't believe she asked me to really come back...

Was she interested in me? It felt impossible since Gojo had been showing her so much interest and attention.

"Well wasn't she beautiful, Nanami!?" Gojo said excitedly.

"Mm," I agreed as I looked through the pages of the book I had just bought.

I wasn't even sure if it was something I'd be interested in at all, but I didn't want to turn her down. Not when she got so excited about it.

He smirked at me, "You seemed to enjoy her company as well."

I glanced over at him, "I needed a new book to read."

"Whatever you say, Nanami. I guess you won't mind if I pursue her then, will you?"

"It seems you already are."

He laughed loudly, "You always have been smart! She wasn't as receptive as most, but I'm sure she'll come around."

"Mm." I responded trying to ignore him. I never liked the way he talked about women.

"I do love a chase. Makes the reward that much sweeter when I finally get what I want."

I especially didn't like that he was talking about her in that way. She was too kind.

"You should treat women better."

"Hey!" he whined. "I'm always a perfect gentleman! I'm just not a shrewd like you are. It's ok to have some fun sometimes, Nanami."

"Do they have fun when you never call them back?"

He laughed, "Ah you're too uptight! Besides, I'd definitely call a girl like Y/n back."

I sighed at his response, "Well, you'd be stupid not to."

"Are we going to have a little competition?" he eyed me with a sly smile.

"She's not a prize to be won, Gojo."

"Oh Nanami," he teased as he walked towards the entrance of the restaurant. "You have so much to learn."

I felt bad for the girls he used. I just hoped Y/n wouldn't end up being one of them.
