A twelve year-old seventh grade student opened fire before classes had begun for the day. He had been abused by his father and in his suicide note said he was also being bullied. During the shooting he injured a boy in the shoulder and than killed the math teacher. Another student was injured while attempting to come to the teacher's aid. The boy than took his own life.

He survived two tours in Afghanistan and remained calm when the shooting happened. He attempted to convince the kid to drop his weapon, but was told to step back. He was shot as he did so. This did allow enough time for the other students to flee.
