Lucy looked down at the corpse in front of her with a bland look on her face. Being a detective meant seeing dead faces daily and she was pretty much fed up with all the average cases that seemed to always happen.

"It was suicide..." She muttered to the chief in command who looked tired as well. "It's obvious. Poor man drank some poison, died almost instantly."

The chief, Erza, sighed and scribbled something down on a pad of paper. "A shame." She said simply, "I wonder if he meant it."

Lucy shook her head. "There are no signs of struggle... It seems he wanted it to be that way."

Natsu grumbled under his breath as he looked through many police reports. His job was to track wanted people down and unfortunately he wasn't given a job in days.

It's always been Gajeel or Laxus doing all the work while he stayed at HQ and hoped for an opportunity to pop up.

"No... No..." He said as he flipped through the files. "Ah yes!"

"Too late." Mira said, looking over his shoulder. "Rogue and Sting got to that one first."

"Dang it..." Natsu muttered before shoving the file back into the cabinet and slamming the drawer shut. "Why don't I ever get first dibs?"

MiraJane smiled softly, tapping her closed pen up against her cheek. "It's not my fault. Maybe you should talk to The head of your division?"

"I've tried that..." He grumbled. "Didn't work."

Mira stayed silent for a moment before snapping her fingers in accomplishment. "Oh I know! I have a friend who's a detective here. She's been kinda bored lately but there's this new job that came in that she might need some extra help with."

"So? Why me?" He huffed. "I track people down that the detectives tell me to track down.  And usually they're able to get them themselves."

"Yeah but this is different. You'll see." She said with a twinkle in her eyes. "I'll inform her right now."

"W-wait!"

"Too late!" Mira giggled, tapping the enter button on her computer. "I typed it up while you were talking."

Natsu's eyebrow twitched in annoyance before grumbling out a goodbye and escaping towards his office.

"Nice to meet you." Lucy smiled as she shook Natsu's hand, oblivious to the look of awe that he was giving her. "I'm Lucy. Detective Lucy Heartfilia."

"I'm ah... Nats–ah... Pretty...." He rambled. "Uh! No uh I'm Natsu. Natsu Dragon—Dragneel. Natsu Dragneel."

Lucy giggled and looked down at the file in her other hand. "Alright, Natsu Dragneel... Welcome to a day of being a detective."

"And a day with you being a tracker." Natsu added, clearing his throat in the process. "How about we uh... Go over the mission in the car?"

"Sounds good. The car is— what are you doing?"

"Motion sickness pills." He stated before swallowing two pills... Without any water.

"A tracker with motion sickness? Interesting." She grinned before leading him to her car. "This way dragon boy."

Natsu bit his lip as he watched Lucy inspect a some kind of "crime scene".

"You know our jobs aren't too different." She said as she bagged a random item. "We both look for clues. Only yours is more long distance in a sense."

Natsu felt a smile come upon his face as she looked up at him. "I can see it. Only you figure out the victim. I get a picture of their face and run after them like a stalker."

Lucy laughed and held up the bag in front of his face. "Finger print acquired. Now we're back to the police station."

Natsu smirked and ruffled up her hair. "Good job. And then it's gonna be my turn to shine."

Lucy snorted and fixed her hair. "Yeah yeah I can't wait to see you chase after someone."

"Oh it'll be just like a spy movie, believe me."

"Over there..." Natsu whispered as he flicked his sun glasses down in front of his eyes.

"Huh?" Lucy hummed. Her partner looked back over and put on a spare pair of sunglasses on for her.  After giving him a look, she managed to spot out their target for herself. "There! Ooo~ let's go."

"Whoa whoa whoa hold on there speedy. What if he's armed?" He mumbled, putting his arm in front of her. "Don't want that pretty face of yours to be damaged."

"What?"

Natsu blushed and shook his head. "N-nothing... Uh. We need to approach this situation carefully."

Lucy smiled with amusement and placed her hand of his arm, gently pulling it down. "Really? Mira told me you're never usually careful in these situations at all."

He flinched.

"She says you usually just jump right into a fight with the target and—"

"—Ha.. What? No Mira definitely has a screw loose. It's not like I'm trying to impress you or anything... I... I mean—"

Lucy cut him off with a giggle, unbuckling her seatbelt. "Such a charmer, aren't you. Let's just do this your way and got get him. He's not dangerous at the moment given he's wearing shorts and a tank top... He can't hide a gun in that."

"What if he has a knife?" Natsu blinked, slightly impressed.

"Unlikely, he just came out of a building with high security." Lucy smirked before stepping out of the car.

The pinkette sighed in aw at her brains and took a second before joining her out of the car. "Alright." He said, giving her a smirk in return. "Time to look natural as we sneak up behind him." He nodded, intertwining his fingers with hers. "My lovely assistant."

Lucy blushed lightly but gave a smile on a sign of agreement. "Affirmative... My... Uh... Hm... Insert cheesy nickname here..."

"AHAHAHA!" Natsu blared as he slammed the complete job form on Mira's desk. "We did it! We caught him!"

Lucy sat on the corner of Mira's desk as she and the silver haired woman watched him, trying not to laugh. "We made a great team Natsu."

"No shit!" He snorts before continuing to bask in his glory.

"And thanks Mira, I actually had fun on a job for once. It's been awhile." Lucy smiled down gratefully to her friend, whom gave a knowing smile and a nod in return.

After watching Natsu finish with his victory speech... And dance... Mira finally spoke up. "You know... Erza was impressed with your team. Apparently she likes the fact that Lucy has put more interest in her job, and the fact that you, Natsu, actually think a little bit more logically."

Natsu blushed lightly, but surprisingly didn't say anything.

"She offers a partnership between you two. A permanent one."

Lucy noticed the look in Natsu's eyes turn brighter and happier than he had been already... Even a huge smile appeared on his face. Because of so, she began to smile as well, knowing that he liked the idea as well.

Once they made eye contact, they immediately came up with their decision. "Yeah." Lucy said, smiling up at Natsu's bright onyx eyes. "I think we would like that."

Mira smiled and picked up her phone, dialing Erza's work number by memory. "I'll inform her now."

Natsu took a deep breath and looked at the finished job file on the desk. "Finally..."

"Hey Natsu, come here for a sec." Lucy whispered, tugging on his arm. He blinked a couple times before following her to the other side of the room where there wasn't a lot of people. "Here's my number...partner."

Natsu looked down at the paper she held out for him before taking it in his hands. He smiled and reached into his pocket, taking out a random gum wrapper and a pen, and writing his number for her.

She laughed lightly and held the paper to her chest. "Thanks..."

Natsu watched her for a second before sheepishly tilting her head upwards, though he quickly let go afterwards. "Can I take you to dinner tonight? My treat."

Lucy smiled and examined his nervous features before nodding. "I would like that... Who's driving?"

Natsu scratched his cheek and looked away awkwardly. "I'm kinda... Running low on motion sickness pills. I'm not sure if I could drive."

"I'll be glad to pick you up dragon boy... Seven o'clock, ok?" She nodded, putting her hand on his shoulder, almost flirtatiously. "I'll see you then."

"Yeah." Natsu grinned and watched in amusement as she walked away to her car. "Can't wait..."
