"Happy!!" Natsu yelled and pushed the exceed out of the way before he could get hit with the strange beam of magic. And instead of the blue feline getting hit, Natsu took the shot.
Lucy stood to the side, frozen with horror as she watched Natsu fall to the ground with a grunt. Happy was shaking him but he wouldn't gain consciousness.
The dark wizard laughed and stared down at the two, paying no attention to the blonde. "Awe how sweet." She smiled crookedly.
Lucy glared at the women with a look that even Erza would cower to. In not even a second, she kicked the dark Mage down to the ground while in her Taurus star dress. "What did you do to him?" Lucy growled, finding it odd that Natsu didn't get up yet.
"Oh you'll see soon enough." The woman giggled, despite all the broken bones Lucy gave her. And after a moment, the wizard disappeared from under Lucy like a breeze would blow away autumn leaves.
The celestial Mage stood still, breathing heavily, until she heard Natsu finally speak up.
"Lu...cy?" He sat up, looking around hopelessly. "Happy?"
"Natsu thank goodness you're okay." Happy cried, hugging onto his partner's arm.
Natsu flinched and backed away. "Why is everything so dark? I can hear you guys but..."
Happy looked confused as Lucy walked over to the two.
"Natsu, look at me." Lucy ordered, and Natsu did as she told but he seemed somewhat unsure about the direction she was in.
Once she got a good look at his eyes, her breathing hitched in her throat. Instead of his usual dark onyx eyes, they were a very, very pale green.
"Where are you?" He breathed, reaching up and touching her face shakily. "You're here but I can't see you..."
Lucy sobbed and pulled him into a hug, not knowing how to tell him what had just happened.
---
"Oi! Flame brain? That job took you forever!" Gray yelled as Lucy, Natsu, and Happy trudged inside the guild doors. Natsu sadly ignored him and tried his best to look around at the guild as Lucy led him to a table. "Natsu?" Gray said, sounding a little worried now.
Erza and Wendy noticed the strange scene before them and quickly rushed over to the table where Natsu sat, holding onto Happy for comfort as Lucy went to tell the master what happened.
"Natsu-San?" Wendy said slowly.
Natsu looked up towards her voice, but he looked somewhat past her face. "Wendy?" He guessed.
"Natsu... You're eyes." Erza pointed out in shock, touching his cheeks lightly, but pulled away quickly when he flinched. "What—?"
"—Everyone! Attention!" The master interrupted from his spot on the bar, startling Natsu. "We have some very unfortunate news..."
Everyone looked toward the master, except Lucy, Happy, and of course... Natsu.
"After their mission, Lucy and Happy came back with a problem..." Makarov said with a tight voice, trying not to get emotional. "Natsu... Was hit with a strange magic, making him become... Blind. It also lowered his other senses, but his eyesight is completely gone."
The whole guild became uncomfortably silent as they looked over at the paled eyed dragon slayer.
"I never heard of something like this, but please search for some kind of cure... At least try!" Lucy cut in, sniffling. "...Please..."
---
Natsu spent the rest of the day at his booth with Happy still curled up in his arms.
"Natsu... It's me, Mira." The takeover Mage said softly, placing her hand on his head. "Me and Lisanna are going to try our hardest to help you."
Lisanna nodded, but quickly said yes when she realized he couldn't see her.
Natsu squinted his eyes up towards their voices, trying so hard to at least get the color of their silver hair.
MiraJane's lower lip trembled at the look of him and soon the two girls enveloped him in a hug. "You're gonna be alright." Lisanna whispered.
---
"I've forgotten how beautiful your eyes were... Lucy..." Natsu muttered as Lucy sat him down in her bed, pulling the blankets up to his chin. "I'm trying so hard, I don't know how I'm forgetting details of my own family."
Lucy blushed and placed happy beside him. "You'll get your eyesight back. I won't rest until I do." She brushed his hair out of his face. "For now, sleep and dream about us to the best of your ability."
"I want to help!" Nasty complained and attempted to get out of bed but Lucy just pushed him down again.
"Go to sleep..."
---
Getting to the guild was hard, especially when Lucy wasn't there to guide him along. She disappeared late in the night to try and find the dark Mage that blinded him, and didn't yet come back. So Happy was the one to fly the dragonslayer to the guild hall.
Once he got through the doors, Erza immediately took his hand and led him to the booth he sat at the day before. Gray sat down at the bar, watching with a frown.
"No..." Nastu complained and refused to sit down. "I don't want to waste away in that stupid seat! Let me go on a job!" He yelled and tried to find the request board, but stopped midway as he felt too lost, without a think to hold on to.
Erza sighed and took his hand, bringing him back to the booth, and past Gray who looked like he wanted to say something to his rival for the first time since yesterday, when he challenged him to a fight right when he got back. But no words could make their way out of his mouth.
"Everyone!" Max yelled as he slammed open the doors. "Gildarts is back!"
Nasty flinched at the sudden noise and whimpered when an explosion suddenly sounded from the other side of the guild.
"Where's Natsu?" The familiar voice of the strongest wizard of fairy tail boomed as he walked into the hall. "He challenged me to a fight last time we met!"
Cana's eyes widened and was about to stop her father from doing anything to the pinkette, but was too late as he spotted Natsu looking in his general direction... Not catching his nervous, pale green eyes.
And in a matter of seconds, Gildart's fist collided with Natsu's abdomen, causing him to slam into a wall, then punched again into the ground.
"Dad stop it!" Cana yelled, and it worked. Gildart stopped because of his previous daughter, but also halted because the boy didn't even try to fight back.
"Damn... It..." Natsu coughed up some blood and tried to get up, shakily.
Gray, surprisingly, was the one to run over and pick up Natsu, and help him back to his seat. All the while, glaring at Gildarts.
"He was blinded, father." Cana cried. "All his senses were depleted..."
He blinked, and finally noticed the strange look in his victim's eyes. "I—I'm sorry..." He gasped.
"I want Lucy..." Natsu breathed, rocking back and forth. "I need her here."
And he ignored Gildarts just like that as his mind focused on one person, and one person only.
---
Natsu slept in the infirmary that night, as Lucy never showed up to bring him to her home.
But the poor boy couldn't sleep. He couldn't tell the difference between being asleep, and being awake.
Happy whimpered aloud as he dreamed, and cuddled up beside the pinkette.
"My hair is... Salmon...." He whispered to himself. "Pink... Salmon... Peach... Pink... Lucy's favorite color."
Slowly, he got up and out of bed, and ran his hand across the wall to guide him to the door.
"Happy has blue fur. Lucy has blonde hair..." He continued and made his way into the main hall of the guild. "Erza has red hair, Gray's is basically black... Emo ice shit..."
He chuckled to himself, but stopped when he tripped and hit his hip on the side of a table. This caused him to buy his lip to muffle his screaming.
"Wendy has dark blue hair." He forced out. "Mira, Lisanna, and Elfman all have white hair... Loke has orange hair, fuckin' playboy."
Natsu inched his hands along the wall until he hit the request board. He put on a satisfied grin.
But before he could pull off a random job request, a voice halted him.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Natsu cocked his head towards the voice... It was wonderfully familiar.
"Natsu. You can't go on a job with your current condition."
"Lucy...?" He breathed and walked forward, making sure that he didn't bump into anything.
He heard a small giggle and a hand touch his cheek. "Yes?"
"You're finally back!" He smiled and reached out to touch her face... But ended up poking her eyes.
"OW!" She yelped and pulled his hands away from her eyes.
Natsu flinched as he realized what had just happened. "Ew."
Lucy grumbled and led him to a seat so they could talk. "Guess what?"
"What?"
"I found the dark Mage that cursed you." She said with a wide grin.
Natsu perked up and grinned in her general direction.
"And the antidote was just a simple potion that I need to drip on your eyes."
"Then hurry up and pour that shit into my eyes." He said, prying his eye lids open.
"Hold on... It doesn't come without a price!" She grumbled and pulled his hands away from his eyes. "After dripping a single drop into each eyes, you'll fall asleep for a couple days... And then the curse will pass on to someone else."
Natsu froze still. "Who?"
"I'll volunteer myself." Lucy stated but was cut off my Natsu slamming his hands onto the table.
"What? No way! I'm not gonna let you do that, Lucy!" He argued.
"Natsu. You need your eye sight, and your other senses, more than I do..." She said calmly.
"No! We'll find someone else!"
"Natsu..."
---
"I see..." Erza nodded as she held the antidote in her hands. "But Lucy... I can't allow you to take the curse. I'll do it."
"No." Lucy sighed. "Once again, you need your eyesight as well as your other senses..."
Everyone sat in silence, not knowing what to do. Either way, Lucy would volunteer herself.
Even Happy tried to stop her, as he was the one that Natsu protected... But with no such luck, Lucy disagreed.
No one noticed the sudden disappearance of a small white cat. Unbeknownst to even Wendy, Charle had a vision.
There was one person, besides Lucy, who could take the curse. Except this boy had poisoned his eyes badly before, which somehow gave him an immunity to this dark magic.
Jellal Fernandes.
Charle dashed through the foliage of a forest at full speed, looking for the location she saw Jellal in her vision.
A very quick flash of blue and pink caught her attention, making her turn around and head to the source.
They were there.
"Meredy, I'm not going to give you my cloak." Jellal sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"But mine is all wet! It's not my fault I fell in a puddle!" She pouted.
"It's not my fault that you get scared by frogs."
"Hey!" Meredy argued, pointing her finger up at him threateningly. "I know you've seen those creepy life sized ones at the council hall. That's scary."
Jellal opened his mouth to argue back but Charle leapt forward and in front of his face. He let out a surprised grunt and stepped back.
"Jellal... You are of need at Fairy Tail."
"Wha—?" He started but was interrupted by a branch breaking from a tree and falling to the ground.
"Happy?" Meredy blinked and ran over to pick the poor exceed up.
Charle looked at the blue cat carefully before turning back to Jellal. "I'll explain everything on the way. It's important that we leave now."
"Aye!" Happy agreed and held onto Meredy's back. "I came since I knew you couldn't carry both of them."
Charle smiled and picked up the confused Jellal. "Thank you." She said formally and lifted him into the air, beginning to explain everything.
---
"Okay, Natsu... You ready?" Lucy whispered and held the antidote in her hands. Natsu wanted to say no again but there was no way she would step out of it. "In three... Two... One... Zer—"
"Wait!" I voice yelled, slamming the door of the infirmary open.
Everyone looked up in surprise as Jellal marched over to Lucy and took the bottle out of her hands. She was to shocked to do anything.
"Who's there?" Natsu asked cautiously, thinking something bad happen. "Lucy?!"
Lucy snapped back into reality and looked up at Jellal questionably. "What are you doing here, Jellal? Give that back."
"No." He said firmly and started to unscrew the top. "I'll explain everything later, just let me be the one to do this."
"Jellal you'll be blind!" Natsu argued, now aware of who was here.
"It's a long story, but it won't effect me."
Lucy watched in a panic as Jellal dropped the antidote, once for each of Natsu's eyes. And the firedragon slayer slowly fell into a deep slumber.
---
Jellal went over how Erik's poison made his eyes more immune to dark magic and poison. Meredy smiled happily as she sat next to Juvia with a very pleased look.
"I never would have guessed..." Erza muttered and bit the knuckle on her right index finger.
Jellal only smiled at her and moved her hand away from her face. "It was all thanks to Charle for having that vision of hers..."
The said exceed blushed and looked away stubbornly. "Yeah but... When is Natsu going to wake up."
"Sometime between today and tomorrow." Lucy smiled, feeling really relieved. "I'll keep a watch on him."
Gray smirked and looked towards the infirmary, where Natsu slept. "It's gonna be nice having him back..." He mumbled under his breath.
"What was that, gray-sama?"
"Nothing."
---
That night, Lucy had fallen asleep on a chair next to Natsu's bed. His sudden movements, however, made her wake up with a start.
With a sudden gasp of air, Natsu woke up, looking around frantically. Though he calmed down when he saw those chocolate brown eyes that he had missed so much. "Lucy..." He breathed and reached out to her. "You..."
"I can see... Jellal can see..." She whispered reassuringly and grabbed his hand.
"You... Look like an angel..." He whispered back, tears forming at his now onyx eyes.
Lucy blushed and raised her free hand to touch the skin around his eyes. Natsu smiled and closed the gap between them by placing a soft kiss on her lips.
---
The next morning, Gray, Erza, And Jellal found the two snuggled up against each other with small smiles on their faces.
"Well I guess they saw each other, huh?" Gray smirked, crossing his arms over his bare chest.
"Oh..." Jellal raised his hands to his face as he blushed. "I was the cause of something so precious."
Gray gave him a weird look.
Erza chuckled and pulled the two boys out of the room, Gray by his ear and Jellal by his hand. "Come on... Let's leave them be."
And little did they know that Natsu was listening, and watching them with a twinkle in his eye, before hugging Lucy closer to him and falling asleep... Ready to see the world again in a new light when he would awake, with Lucy by his side.
