In this one shot Natsu suffers from it after seeing Future Lucy die

"Aaaah!" A loud gasp was heard from pink haired male as he quickly sat up on his bed.

He touched his forehead, as he looked at his hand he noticed it was wet. He was pouring sweat.

"Natsu, are you all right?" Tiny blue neko asked while rubbing his sleepy eyes. He noticed Natsu waking up like this almost every night and it started worrying Happy.

"Y-Yeah... I'm f-fine, Happy... go back to sleep..." he whispered with his eyes wide open and slowly lied back. He gasped for few more moments while thinking before closing them and continuing to sleep.

Happy didn't want to say anything right now for many reasons, but most important one was that it's a sensitive subject to talk about right after it happened so he figured it would be the best to ask him in the morning.

"Natsu, what did you dream about last night?" Happy asked while eating a tasty fish at the breakfast table.

Natsu's eyes shifted from his plate to look at his best friend. He looked hesitant to talk about it but he could trust Happy.

"It was... about.. L-L-" he stuttered and cute exceed noticed his uncomfortableness.

"About Future Lucy?" He asked and pinkette nodded.

"Oh.. i know! Let's go to Lucy's! That will surely make you feel better! Wanna go?" Happy suggested.

"Y-Yeah.."

- Flashback -

"Okay, Pinkie, you can't hide it from us anymore, we want all juicy details about how you feel!" Mira threatened in her She Devil form as Natsu shook in fear and slowly gulped.

"H-Huh..? I don't get what you wanna know.." he looked away at the Celestial mage sitting alone at the table while reading a new book she got from the library.

His eyes softened at the sight of her and a smile crept on his lips. Mira and Erza dangerously grinned at each other and nodded.

"You're coming with us, Dragneel!" They said at the same time and dragged the poor Fire mage outside of the guild hall. He whined but no one was brave enough to oppose against two most powerful women in Fairy Tail.

"Can ya stop already?" Natsu whined as Erza listened and faced in front of him alongside Mira.

"Now, tell us what do you exactly feel when you're with Lucy, or even when you're looking at her," white headed woman asked, expecting an answer quickly.

"Why should I tell you two?!" He argued.

Erza's look hardened and she shot him a death glare, making him shiver.

"This is abuse..." he commented quietly and crossed his arms, still sitting on the cold ground.

"Just start talking or we'll make you talk," Take Over mage threatened once again.

"What's with you today? Aren't you usually nice?" Dragon Slayer asked while shifting his eyes towards Mira.

"Natsu..." she growled, making Natsu shiver. He gulped and started talking.

"W-W-Well... when I look at her I see perfection, I know she isn't perfect to everyone but she definitely is to me. She's so beautiful... I want to protect her and keep her safe at all times. She's more precious to me then I could've ever imagined she would become.. she might be short tempered, easily annoyed, flustered.. but that makes her Lucy, and I love that, I wouldn't want her any other way..." Fire mages cheeks reddened while thinking about the Celestial beauty.

Both Mira and Erza had a surprised face, they couldn't believe Natsu wasn't as dense as they both thought. He actually knew what love is.. they felt so proud.

"What the hell does that even mean? I think this ain't normal! Do you two think I've gotten sick?!" He panicked as the women in front of him face palmed, their hopes sinking.

"Y'know, the he so called 'sickness' is called love! L-O-V-E! It's really not that hard to figure out, Natsu.." Erza sighed but smiled right after.

"I'm so glad you feel about her this way, you two are made for each other. You've grown so much Natsu, I'm so proud of you.." Natsu blushed as he finally got some explanation about what his feelings towards his best friend were. And honestly, they made sense.

"You're right! But.. should I tell her?"

"Of course, no doubt about it.. and don't worry, I know for a fact it won't end in rejection.." Mira said with a kind smile, the one everyone knew her for.

"I'm still not sure..." Fire mage sighed and looked away at the ground, his eyelids closing.

Requip mage and Take Over wizard exchanged somewhat woried looks. The Natsu they both knew their whole lives looked troubled.. regular Flamebrain they knew and loved would already be in Lucy's face, telling her how he truly felt. He might be reckless and dense a lot of times but he still has a brain to think with, even though he doesn't do it very often.

"C'mon are you really going to act this way? You are Natsu Dragneel for gods sake! You never give up, what's with this all of a sudden?"

"I just... this ain't regular situation when I can just fight things without any regrets.. this is Lucy, if I screw up then I could lose my best friend. If she doesn't feel the same the things between us will definitely become awkward and that's the last thing I want," Fire mage took a deep breath in and continued.

"I couldn't bare not being able to protect her at all times, especially not after what happened to Future Lucy... if something had happened to her I would be as good as dead.." he finished, it felt so good to finally let it out to someone.

"Woah Natsu... you kept a lot if things to yourself, huh?" Mira sighed and all Natsu could give them was a gently nod.

- Flashback end -

Suddenly, as Natsu walked to Lucy's house after Happy went to see Carla he felt sudden fear in his chest. A feeling he gets only when something bad happens. He began freaking out and quickened his tracks.

His heart began racing and he tightly clenched onto his vest to calm down.

Fuck...

What's happening to Lucy?

Something bad is going to happen.. I can feel it..

Damn it!

Natsu gritted his teeth and sprinted towards Lucy's apartment.

Be in the house...

Be in the house!

PLEASE BE IN THE HOUSE!!

Dragon Slayer angrily yelled in his head, practically begging anyone who heard him for the blonde to be safe at home.

"Oi! Luce! I came to-" Natsu's voice faded away as his eyes widened and filled with fear.

Lucy's house was a mess. Her table was upside down, her notes from the wall were thrown around the whole apartment, her sheets were on the floor and most disturbing... there was a bloody smell in the air.

Natsu's mind began flashing with pictures of future Lucy dying. His mind was flooded and it  most definitely hurt.

His eyes watered as tears rolled down his cheeks. He screamed at the air for the pictures to stop showing him his worst memory.

"Stop it! For fucks sake stop showing this shit to me already! I'm going to save her this time I swear! I'll make it in time!" He broke down on his knees.

"I'll make it this time.."

"I'm going to make it!!" He cried out and ran in the direction of Lucy's scent.

"I'll kill the bastard who lied their filthy hands on you, Lucy.. " Fire mage growled with poison in his voice.

He ran for miles and miles and he finally arrived at the place where blondes scent was present.

It looked like a mansion, it didn't look scary nor dangerous but there was a feeling present, a feeling of uneasiness.

He slowly took steps ahead and sneaked in.

Natsu sniffed through the air in hopes of smelling Lucy but something was blocking him from doing it. He walked around the place and looked around.

The mansion looked nice, there were pictures on the walls.

Pictures of a happy family of three. A tall blonde man with a beard, a blonde woman little shorter than him and a little girl with golden blonde hair equally beautiful as the blonde woman.

Natsu stared at the portrait for some time, analyzing the people in it. The girl looked somehow familiar...

Is that Luce?

His eyes softened as he realized this might be Lucy's childhood house. He never saw it before, and it was filled with her scent. Maybe she wasn't here after all.

What if her scent is only here because her family smells like her?

Damn it! She could be in trouble somewhere far away and I'm wasting my time here!

Just when the Fire mage was about to ran out of the mansion he heard a familiar shout.

"Never!" And a slap was heard right after.

He ran with all his might and was in front of the big door in seconds but he stopped in his tracks when he heard someone else's words.

"You will obey my orders! Your mother would be ashamed if she saw you! I am ashamed to be called your father! I wished Layla aborted you when she had a chance, now she's dead because of you!!"

Those words were the final trigger.

"How dare you?!" Natsu punched Jude in the face with full power, making him fly off and crash into the wall. Blonde man's eyes spread open in fear while holding his red cheek.

Dragon Slayer looked mad. He walked closer to Jude and continued throwing punches.

"I'll have your head for talking to Lucy that way!"

"Natsu.. enough.." Lucy whispered weakly making Natsu immediately stop and look at her.

She was leaning on the wall on the other side of the room with her back. She looked tired and beaten.

"Luce..." he walked to her and placed a palm on her red cheek. She jerked away from pain and shamefully looked at the floor.

Fire mage carefully wrapped his hands around her waist and under her knees, picking her up gently.

"Lets go home," he spoke softly.

Lucy clenched his vest and faced his chest. Natsu could feel her trembling and quiet sobs, she obviously didn't want to be seen crying but at the same time, she couldn't help not to.

It pained his heart.

He could feel his heart sink into his stomach.

"I hate him..."

"I hate him so much.."

"I don't want to, but I can't help it..." Celestial mage sobbed and tightened her grip.

"What happened between the two of you?" Pinkette asked carefully, not wanting to trigger her.

"It happened this morning, I was reading the new book I got from Levy and all of a sudden two men were standing at my door. I asked them if I could help them in any way, but they kept quiet. The last thing I remember was pain and waking up in my old room.." Lucy explained as Natsu continued walking with her in his arms.

He gritted his teeth angrily, he attempted not to come off as mad but he couldn't help it. Her own father kidnapped her from her home just to get her back to him.

What kind if a freak would do that?!

"I'm sorry I was so late," his bangs covered his eyes while he bit his lower lip in distress.

"Natsu, don't be like that... you couldn't have known.." Lucy tried to resonate with him.

"I don't care, I should've known! I was an idiot and planned a stupid event instead being with you.. and now you're hurt because I wasn't there to protect you like I promised!"

"Natsu.."

"I'm sorry!"

"Stop apologizing, it wasn't your damn fault!"

Fire mage stopped and lowered his gaze to look at the blonde. She had tears in her eyes who were on the edge of falling and her lip was quivering. He let out a sigh and kissed her forehead.

"Don't waste your tears on me," he said.

"You're the only one who's worthy enough to get them," blonde commented.

She weakly smiled and passed out from exhaustion.

I can never forgive myself for not making it in time,

I can never let go of my past, it will always haunt me, but you don't have to worry about that.. that's my burden to hold.

But I can promise to you, Luce, that I will always come for you. I will always be there for you.

I will be your savior,

just like you are mine..
