Forgotten Birthday
Dear mom,
Today is July 2nd, I turned 18 yesterday. I'm feeling a bit sad to be honest, since nobody wished me a happy birthday.. I don't know why I feel this way anyway, no one even knows about it, only you and dad knew and you aren't here anymore. I love you both, I know you guys are looking down on me from heaven. Say hi to him for me please..
- with love, Lucy Heartfilia
A salmon haired boy's eyes widened as he read one of Lucy's letters to her mom. He didn't know her birthday was yesterday, and he could've still not know it if Lucy hid her letter like she usually does.
Natsu's head turned to look at her peacefully sleeping on her bed. He carried her to the bed after he found her asleep on her desk again, she was probably writing her novel.
He had a sad look on his face, well of course he did, yesterday was supposed to be the happiest day for his best friends life and he didn't know about it. What kind of a best friend was he?
He wished that he could go back in time and fix this. Then she wouldn't feel sad. The grip on the letter tightened, but soon loosened. He placed it back on the spot he found it in and walked towards Lucy.
His hand gently brushed a blond lock of her hair away from her flawless face and caressed her cheek.
"Oh Luce, you selfless dummy.." he sighed.
If only she had told him, he could've made it better..
Lucy mumbled something in her sleep as her eyes slowly opened.
"Natsu..? What are you doing here in the middle of the night?" She said with dazed eyes, still half asleep.
Natsu was slightly startled by her, but quickly shrugged it off.
"Shh Luce, I just came to see you, go back to sleep.." he whispered sweetly and stroked her hair.
"But.. why don't you.. sleep too?" Lucy breathed and put her palm above his stroking hand. Natsu's cheeks turning into deep crimson color as he took the blanket and pulled it over her body.
"I.. uh.. sure, I'll sleep too" hand covered his mouth, trying to prevent Lucy from seeing his blushing face. He turned the lights off and took off his vest. He slowly stepped over Lucy and got into the bed, his arms automatically wrapping around Lucy's sleeping figure.
She turned around in her sleep and cuddled up into his chest, warmth taking over. This was most definitely his favorite way to fall asleep.
The smell of her overwhelmed him in every way, the calming scent of vanilla and strawberries, his favorite smell.
His muscular arms tightened around her body as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead.

"Mm.." Lucy hummed as she woke up, felling completely warmed up. She scanned the room and found no clue of her pink haired dragon slayer. Her eyes shifted and noticed how she was wrapped up in blankets, he most certainly did that to replace the warming feeling when he left.
Lucy got up and walked to the kitchen, making a breakfast before Natsu returns.
She mixed all ingredients together for the pancakes she was making in her oversized shirt that went just below her bottom.

"Good morning, old man!" Natsu walked in the store, greeting the worker inside. Grandpa inside lifted his head to the call and stopped doing paperwork.
"Yes, young man? How can I help you?"
"My best friends birthday was two days ago, and none of us knew about it, so I need some kind of a gift. Can you help me out?" He asked as his arm rested on the counter.
"Of course, but you'll have to tell me about your friend first please," he said and patiently waited for Natsu to speak.
"Well... her name is Lucy, and she's a Celestial wizard. She has blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. She likes sweets even though she doesn't like to eat a lot of them, she fears of becoming fat which honestly makes no sense to me," Natsu smiled at her silly way of thinking and continued, "she is the biggest fan of stars and astrology, she could stare at them for hours. I know she prefers silver over gold and that she loves necklaces and earrings, but despises bracelets. That's all I know, sorry I ranted too much.." Natsu apologized as he nervously put his hand on the back of his neck, smiling.
"It seems to me that you have feelings for this girl, my boy.." the man commented with a smirk, making Natsu's cheeks to go crimson again.
"How did you-"
"Oh please, just listen of the way you talk about her, it's way too obvious, but you fear that she doesn't feel the same, am I right?" Natsu seemed shocked of the mans words, but he couldn't argue with them, they were true.
"N-N... yeah.." Natsu sighed and admitted, lowering his head.
"I have just the right thing for you!" The seller shouted as Natsu's face lit up.
"Ta-da!" Old man turned around and showed Natsu the gifts he had in mind.
There were necklaces that had engravings of all kinds of things. Some had names, some had dates, and some had quotes on them. Natsu looked at them in amazement as he didn't know which was the best one.
"Do you have one with the date of June 31st X784?" Natsu asked.
"Let me see... ah, yes, there it is!"
Old man handed him the necklace. It looked stunning and Natsu could already imagine how good it would look on Lucy. The jewelry in his hand was silver and in a beautiful font, exactly like Lucy's taste.
"I'll take it, how much?"
"You can have it for free, it's rare to see such loyal people around here anymore, so just take it and make her happy.." both of them smiled at each other as Natsu thanked him and ran out.
"Good luck"

"Luce! I'm back!" Natsu shouted from the door as he found the blonde sitting at the table with a lot of food on it.
"Hey Natsu, I figured you'd come back so I made breakfast, your favorite!" She yelled happily as Natsu's smile dropped. She made all of this just for him?
"I don't deserve her.." he muttered quietly and walked up to her. He offered her his hand, at first she looked weirdly at him but accepted the offer. Natsu pulled her into a tight hug.
"N-Natsu, what's with you, it's just breakfast" she let out a giggle, gladly hugging him back.
"Happy late birthday.." Lucy's eyes shot opened at his words as she backed off to look at him.
"W-What? What birthday?"
"I read the letter to your mom, sorry about that.. but why didn't you tell tell me when it was? You know when's mine.."
"You never asked, so it doesn't matter.."
"You still should've told me, but anyway, I got you something as apology," he spoke and reached his hand into his pocket.
He pulled out a long and almost flat white box.
"Why would you buy me something? You shouldn't have, I don't need presents." She hissed at him.
"Just open it," he smirked and gave it to her.
"Thank you.." the second Lucy's eyes laid on the gift in front of her, tears began burning in her eyes.
She carefully took out the necklace and admirably looked at it for few moments. Lucy's view came on Natsu, he looked like he was on edge of panicking, so she quickly wiped away her tears and replaced them with a smile.
"I can't believe you remember the day we met.." she muttered quietly, almost like she didn't believe it. Natsu smiled and walked behind her to put it on.
"My memory isn't that bad, y'know." He whispered in her ear, making Lucy's heart skip a beat.
"You're so cute," she said and spoon around to face him.
"Thank you.." she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, pressing their chest together. Her lips made contact with his already red cheek, as another grateful gesture.
Natsu's palm moved over to the place of the kiss with flustered face.
"O-Oi!"
