Nadine's POV

It was the day before the annual race took place. All week long Victor had woken us up early just before the sun could come up. We'd run laps in the courtyard and do various exercises to get our body ready. I was truly exhausted and annoyed that I had to wake up so early.

I layed my head down in history class instantly falling asleep. It wasn't until I heard the tapping of a pencil against my desk did I finally wake up. "Hey class is over" Teague says with a grin so large his dimples pop out. I lift my head up to see the classroom was nearly empty.

With a groan I started to pack my things back into my bag. "I'm so exhausted I could sleep for a week straight" I mutter grabbing my bag and lifting it on my shoulder. Me and Teague slowly walk out of class.

"I could always tell Victor you aren't feeling well. That way you could catch up on your sleep" he offers with a soft smile. I shoot him a foever grateful smile.

"You're a lifesaver Teague" I lightly pat his cheek before walking to my locker to put away some of my books I don't need. Slamming it shut I sigh deeply before bidding him farewell. I make my way back to my dorm heading straight for my unmade bed.

It didn't take long for me to knock out cold. I sleep for about an hour when my phone starts to beeps relentlessly. I groan as I pick up my phone, shielding my eyes from the bright light.

I read my messages to see several texts from Ina

Ina: where r u?

Ina: Hello

Ina: YOU BETTER NOT BE IN OUR DORM SLEEPING!!

Ina:😡😡

Ina: Answer me now or else!!!

Rolling my eyes I set my phone down on my side table. Doing a small stretch I decide to wash up really quick before dressing in the school sweat set. Students were only allowed to wear regular clothes during after school hours.

I put my hair in a ponytail after blow drying it. It was now 4:00 which meant I could still make it to the other half of the training session. What I noticed about Victor was that he pushed hims to his limits.

He seemed to be really invested in this stupid race. Me on the other hand I could care less about it. I was only contributing because Ina had practically forced me. I slowly dragged myself out of the dorm room heading towards the courtyard.

On Victor's team were Logan, Teague, Sage, Oskar, two boys from the basketball team and last by not least there was me. It was pretty obvious I brought the whole team down with my lack of ambition and working out skills.

That's why I was personally made to be the understudy. I wasn't complaining it meant that I only had to participate should someone injure themself. Making my way towards the back of the school I enter the courtyard to see them throwing a football around.

My feet crunched loudly against the grassy ground and once my presence was known everyone turned to look my way. "Well well look who decided to grace us with her presence" Victor said with a smirk.

"I don't think it's necessary for me to be here anyway. I'm the understudy" I say walking next to a red faced Ina who was glaring daggers with her piercing stare. I gave her a sheepish smile almost feeling bad about letting her attend practice alone.

"Whatever. Alright everyone we are finished for today. Tomorrow morning will be our last practice before the race so let's make it count". Everyone started to pack up there things when I felt eyes staring at my every move.

Oskars green eyes watched me as he drank from his water bottle. I gasped when he winked at me causing me to immediately look away. "Where the hell were you?! I thought we said this supposed to be a thing we do together. You left me here by myself" ! Ina said grabbing her bag and placing it on her shoulder.

"I know but come on Ina. I was exhausted and emotionally drained. Plus it's not like I'm going to partake in the activities so there really was no reason for me to be there" I say trying to reason with her. We slowly walk back into the academy towards our dorm room.

"Still even if you are just an under study we are a team. Which means you can't leave me hanging" Ina says pointing a finger at me. I sigh deeply before nodding my head.

"I'm gonna head to the cafeteria to get a snack do you want something"? I turn to Ina we stopped in front of our dorm.

"I'll take a bag of gummy worms". And with that I walk back down the hallway, headed towards the cafeteria. Dinner was soon approaching so less students would be in the cafeteria. As I walked down the silent hallway my eyes spotted a trail of blood.

Arching a brow I decided to follow the trail even though I knew it was a stupid idea. Even in scary movies it proved time and time again you never follow where danger could be awaiting you.

But because of the academies current situation with students getting killed the sight of blood made it all the more intriguing. The spots got bigger and bigger leading me down the hallway that no students were ever allowed to go.

A strong pungent smell wafted in the air and I had to hold my breath. I was beginning to feel lightheaded but the smell was so strong it burned my eyes making them water. The trail of blood stopped at a particular door.

Peeking inside I could make out only a little of what was in the room. It looked to be a gym as treadmills were lined up against the wall. I didn't even attempt to open the door knowing that would be taking things too far.

My eyes traveled to the middle of the room and I was shocked to see Sage with a bloody arm in her mouth. She had a crazed look in her eyes as blood dripped down her chin. Her nails had seemed to grow even longer making her appear to have claws.

She hungrily chewed on the arm. The smell was still so bad I had to hold the urge to gag. The dead girls body layed lifeless with her right arm torn off her body. Her pale skin had blood patches all over and I felt so much sadness for the victim.

Having seen enough I try and back up from the door when a pair of strong hands land on my shoulder tightly.

"Going so soon"....
