Nadine's POV

I turn to see a wild eyed Sage gripping my shoulders tightly. Caked up blood adorned her mouth and sharp protruding canines hanged out.Her hands were still bloody causing the sweatshirt I was wearing to have blood stains. The smell of death reeked from her body and it took everything in me not to gag.

"I...I was just on my way to the cafeteria" I stuttered mindlessly. The near death smirk she was giving me caused my heart to pound loudly. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears and panic rushed over my body.

"I think it's time we had a little chat shall we" Sage roughly grabbed my arm pulling me into the empty class room. I knew I shouldn't have been so curious now I had no clue if she would kill me right then and there.

She forced me to sit on the ground. I roughly dropped to the ground next to the lifeless girl. I immediately backed away as the girls throat had been slit open. All I could see was arteries and bone.

I wanted to puke so bad but I held myself together. "What d-did you want to t-talk a-about" I folded my legs close to my chest as she locked the door. My eyes trailed to the window that was wide open. If worse came I could always jump out.

"You really are pathetic. I honestly don't know what Oskar sees in you. And now you've got Teague wrapped around your little finger" she sneered circling around me. Her wild blonde hair curled to perfection.

She wiped her bloody mouth with the back of her hand. Her bold blue eyes held so much fire I was scared to say the wrong thing. After all she was quite taller than me I had no clue how to defend myself.

"I know you saw everything. It's a shame really but it must be done. I can't have you going back and exposing me". I was confused as she squatted down to look me in the eye.

"P-please... I w-wont tell anyone" I begged relentlessly. She chuckled hastily as if amused at the fact that I was frightened by her. She eyed my every move as if daring me to run.

"Don't worry I've already had my fill for today. The girl was quite easy to fool. If anything your begging entices my beast even more" she glided a finger down my face. Pressing her cold hand against my neck she sniffed the air a content smile on her face.

I shivered wanting to get out of here. "What are you going to do to me? If you kill me....p-"

"No one will know. See that is the wonderful part. I've been doing well so far. Plus you know too much. I know you saw me coming out the forest that day. I can't have you ruining my plans". She smiled wickedly licking her lips.

I was shaking so bad and at this moment I wished had a weapon on me. "Don't worry your pretty little head. I'll make this all go away" and before I could protest she punched me hard knocking me out cold.

The next time I woke up I was in my dorm room. The bright sun shined brightly and my head pounded angrily. I looked to see Ina's bed empty, I wondered what day it was.

I got up to search for some painkillers as my headache kept getting worse. I grabbed a water bottle from our mini fridge. I looked on my phone to see today was the eighth the day of the annual race!

I panicked as I grabbed some yoga pants and a pink top. It would be starting any moment now and I had slept in! After showering I quickly got dressed leaving my hair to air dry. I grabbed a small bag making sure I had my phone and wallet.

I rushed to the courtyard to see Victor and the rest of the team stretching. "Hey sorry I'm late, I accidentally slept in" I grumbled once I got closer to them. Victor shrugged at me not seeming to care.

I joined them stretching but that was it. The race was about to start in an hour and Victor had declared us ready. While we filled up our water bottles I arched an eyebrow at Ina.

"So uhm.. why didn't you wake me up this morning? I thought you said we were a team" I say filling my bottle with water. Ina sipped away st her water before answering me.

"Well you got back pretty late. Which reminds me why were you with Teague? I thought you said you were going to the cafeteria to get us snacks". I stared at her confused, my memories of yesterday were kind of hazy and I had no recollection of what happened.

"I must have ran into him on my way to the cafeteria" I shrugged confused myself. Ina didn't ask anything else as we slowly made our way back to the courtyard. The bleachers were filling up with students and teachers. The school chairwoman stood with in front of a podium.

Students sat next to there teams. Ina and I walk back to our group and I plopped down next to a red faced Teague. "Hey sorry you had to carry me back to my dorm. I'm sure it must have been a hassle" I say sheepishly. He ran a hand through his fire red hair and pink tint coated his face.

"Uhh it was no big deal" he waved it off. Soon the whole academy filled the yard and the games soon began. The first challenge was track and Oskar had volunteered to do it. He ran fast across the green field and we actually made first place.

Next was rocking climbing which Logan had volunteered to do. He made it to the top in seconds and we made first place. Next up was volleyball ball which Ina had volunteered to do and although she wasn't as good Victor still praised her for her effort. We made third place in volleyball.

The next thing was ultimate frisbee and the two boys from the basketball team whose names I found out were Miles and James they volunteered. They were able to make second place which even though it wasn't first place we were still ranking in third place.

The rest of the afternoon had various activities and I was glad I didn't have to participate at all. I mostly cheered our group on as they were putting there all into this stupid race.

I'm sipping my water bottle when a smiling Sage comes to sit next to me. "Sooo how are you enjoying the games"? She asked folding her legs and looking at me intensely.

"Well I can't really say I'm not exactly taking part in the activities" I shrug looking back to see Victor scoring another goal for our team in soccer.

"How is your head feeling? Teague told me you had a nasty fall in the hallway" she gave me a look of concern her eyebrows furrowed. I frowned not remembering exactly what had caused me to fall yesterday.

"Uhh I'm fine. I actually don't remember much of what happened" I say truthfully. Ina raises her eyebrows in shock.

"You must have hit your head pretty hard. I'm just glad Teague was able to help you" she gives me a mocking smile which runs me the wrong way. She stops talking to me and we continue watching the soccer game.

When the day finally ends the chairwoman rallies up the points. We wait anxiously and Victor gloats with pride at how well the team did even if they didn't earn first place in every category.

"IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS OF THE ANNUAL RACE. THERE CAN ONLY BE THREE WINNERS BUT NONETHELESS I AM ALL PROUD OF YOU FOR TAKING PART. IN THIRD PLACE IS TEAM B, IN SEOND PLACE IS TEAM F.

AND NOW FOR THE FIRST WINNER IT GOES TO... TEAM V CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE WON THE ANNUAL RACE".

As soon as the chairwoman announces that we won we holler in salute and cheers. It was a moment to be proud of. We relished in our victory wondering what our prize could be.

After weeks of waking up early it had finally paid off. Now I could sleep in and catch up on my beauty sleep. After the winners were announced the chairwoman made a few announcements before dismissing everyone.

Later we found out all we won was a month of free test passes and a coupon to the local pizza shop near the academy.

So much for winning first place.
