Nain ta heere warge le gaye dil ta chainn
Title is the song 'Nain ta heere warge' from movie 'Jug Jugg jeeyo'
Ayush propped up on his knees again and leaned closer to the baby boy, holding onto Sameer arm, "Papa, yeh kab uthega?"
Sameer was waiting for the same. Baby girl had once opened her eyes, but his son seemed to be in his dream world. He looked at Naina, "Yeh ek baar bhi utha hai kya?"
She shook her head, recalling that the baby had been asleep even when he was fed.
Sameer looked at the little one worriedly, "Kya humein doctor ko puchna chahiye?" Bachhe toh rote hain, yeh dono itne shaant kyon hain? Aur uth kyon nahi rahe?"
Preeti chuckled at his queries, "Arre arre, itne chote babies ke liye itne saare questions? Mister, yeh newborn hain, tumhari tarah office nahi jaana jo subah subah ready ho jaaye."
Vishakha laughed, "Preeti sahi keh rahi hai. Babies zyadatar time sote rehte hain. Ismein tension ki baat nahi hai."
"Lekin yeh toh ek baar bhi nahi utha. Maine iski aankhen tak nahi dekhi." Sameer grumbled.
Dr Amrita walked in with a man, who was wearing a doctor's coat. Having overheard his grouse, she smiled, "Dr Samarth pediatrician hain. Inse puch sakte ho jo bhi janna hain." She peered at the baby in Sameer's arms, "Aur haan, bachhe jab born hote hain toh unhe rulaya jaata hai jisse unke lungs theek se khul jaayein. Uske baad rote rehna zaruri nahi hai."
Dr Samarth asked him to place the baby in the crib, and bent down to check him. Meanwhile, Dr Amrita went to Naina, asking her if she was fine and enquired about a few things. Satisfied, she directed her to sleep after sometime, asking Vishakha to make sure that Naina didn't make much movement.
"Ab main bhi ghar jaa rahi hun. Evening mein aungi. Lekin agar kuch problem ho toh call kar lena. Don't hesitate." She assured before leaving.
Dr Samarth also left after checking on both babies, and answering several questions from Sameer.
When Sameer lifted the pink bundle again, Ayush tugged at his wrist, "Papa, mujhe do na meri sister."
Preeti made him sit on the bed near Naina's feet, and asked him to cross his legs. Sameer gently placed the baby in his lap after Preeti made him make a secure curve with his arms.
"Mujhe aata hai." Ayush said with confidence, "Aru jab baby tha toh usko bhi main aise hi leta tha."
Rohan looked at Arhaan with raised brows, "Oye, tu ab baby nahi hai kya?"
As per his new habit, Arhaan fiercely shook his head in negative.
Naina let out a small chuckle, giving a quick teasing look to Sameer, "Baby hi hai. Aur rahega... aane wale kai saal."
Sameer rolled his eyes, but smiled next moment. He was too happy to sulk. Glancing at Naina, he blew a kiss. Her eyes rounded, her cheeks colouring up at his act in front of everyone. But when she looked around, all had their attention on babies of the family... Ayush, Arhaan and the two little ones. Her lips curled in a smile. It was her small blissful world.
Ayush held the baby delicately but with caution. He lightly pressed her cheek, "Sister, dekho mujhe."
The nurse, who was noting something in a file at the end of the room, immediately responded, "Yes. Aapko kuch chahiye?"
Ayush looked at her in confusion, "Mujhe kuch nahi chahiye. Main apni sister se baat kar raha hun."
Her eyes took in the scene before she smiled, "Oh. Maine socha aap mujhe bula rahe ho."
"Aap toh hospital wali aunty ho. Meri sister thodi ho." Ayush stated with a straight face, "Meri sister yeh small baby hai."
The nurse pointed at the baby boy in Vivek's arms, "Yeh brother bhi aapka hai. Ab dono ke saath khelo."
As she walked out with the file after finishing her work, Ayush twisted his mouth, "Hospital wali aunty ko itna bhi nahi pata yeh dono small hain, abhi inke saath thodi khel sakta hun."
Almost immediately baby boy started to cry, letting out soft whimpering sounds.
Vishakha took the baby from Vivek, soothing him, but his intermittent whining continued. Sameer quickly held the baby, his brows marred with worry, "Ro kyon raha hai? Kya hua isse? Chup kyon nahi ho raha? Doctor ko bulata hun"
"Sameer," Naina halted his tensed babbling, "Yahan lao."
He placed the little one on her side, frowning as it moved some more. Naina wrapped one arm around baby's head, and started to pat lightly over him, murmuring something in inaudible voice. Instantly, the baby relaxed, and went back to sleep.
Ayush grinned, "Mujhe pata hai yeh kyon ro raha hai... isse apne Ayush bhai ke paas aana hai, jaise maine apni sister ko liya hai."
Vivek ruffled his hair, laughing, "Jee nahi. Woh isliye ro raha tha kyonki tune usse small kaha. Woh keh raha tha main small nahi big hun... bilkul teri tarah."
Ayush hunched his shoulders, smirking, "Yeh toh small hi hai. Big toh main hun."
Deepika set his hair, which he couldn't do because he was holding his baby sister, "Actually sab babies ko lagta hai woh big hain."
"Oh!" He nodded intelligently, "Baby hai na, unhe pata nahi hota."
The family stifled their bubbling laughter.
He then leaned towards his sister, "Baby, tumhe jab chocolate ya cake chahiye hoga toh mujhe batana. Main papa se kehke mangwa dunga. Phir main tumhe ice cream khaane bhi leke jaunga. Hum sab jayenge. Tum na chocolate wali ice cream khana. Woh best hoti hai."
Deepika tapped her chin thoughtfully, "Isse agar butterscotch pasand hui toh?"
Ayush narrowed his eyes, "Butterscotch? Kyon? Chocolate hi sabse best hoti hai. Meri sister aur mere brothers sirf chocolate hi khayenge."
Sameer crossed his arms, giving a complacent look to Rohan, "Sabse bade bhai ko apni baat manwani aati hai."
Rohan sighed, murmuring under his breath, "Aise hi bade bhai ko khadus thodi kehte hain."
Preeti swatted his arm, chuckling, "Tum bhi kam nahi ho."
Next half an hour was gone in sweet banters, teasing and admiring the sleeping babies.
Around lunchtime, Vishakha nudged Ayush, "Chalo Ayush ab ghar chalte hain. Kal phir se aa jaana."
Bobbing his head, he gave a wide smile, "Hum mere brother aur sister ko ghar leke chalein?" .
"Abhi nahi." Vishakha cupped his chin, "Babies thode din baad ayenge."
"Kyon? Unko fever hua kya?" He asked worriedly.
Rohan replied when Vishakha couldn't think of an appropriate answer, "Unhe kuch nahi hua. Lekin woh first time apne ghar ayenge toh unke welcome ke liye humein ghar ko decorate karna chahiye na... jaise Arhaan ke liye kiya tha."
"Okay." Ayush beamed in excitement, looking down at the little girl in his lap, "Baby, tum baad mein aana, jab main dher saare balloons... oh no." He clasped his mouth with one hand, "Kuch nahi, kuch nahi. Tumhare liye surprise hoga."
Naina gazed adoringly at her elder son, who certainly was more matured than a baby ever since she brought him home. Whether it was his natural instinct that made him survive the biting cold on that cold winter morning when she found him, or it was some inner strength that God gifted to those who were left alone to combat with the hardships of life, she didn't know. All she knew was that Ayush was the one who gave her the will to live, the reason to smile, and strength to move on from her past. Even at this age, he was more pragmatic and compassionate than many who had much more years to their credit.
She prayed both her newborns were as considerate and perceptive as him, towards every situation in life.
Little later, all of them left for home. Vishakha wanted to stay back so Sameer could go home and rest then come back later in the evening but he refused to leave. He assured them that he would have the lunch Vishakha brought for him and feed Naina the nutritious dish that was prepared especially for her.
Feeling worn out, Naina drifted into sleep almost instantly after lunch. The babies were in the crib, asleep as well. Sameer stared dotingly at the little marvels, who were the tiniest human form he had ever seen. When he had put up his concern that Arhaan wasn't this tiny even on the day he was born, Dr Samarth had explained that twins were smaller than a single baby at the time of birth. The doctor had reassured him that all their parameters were normal and they were quite healthy for twins. Gingerly, Sameer placed a finger on his daughter's cheek... the top pore of his finger covered her full cheek. He was filled with awe, wondering how their hands and fingers would be when the face itself was one third of his finger. Since they were wrapped, he did not give in to the curiosity, remembering that the wrap was to give them the same warmth that they felt in the womb.
He looked up towards the bed. Naina was not pale anymore, like when he first saw her after the delivery. But she appeared exhausted when the entire family was here. Yet she had been smiling throughout, and it wasn't a forced smile. He could not even imagine the pain she must have gone through, on the basis of what he had read... it had shaken him to the core. He had only heard the screams partly whenever the door of delivery room opened, and it still made him shiver. A part of him was always aware of the reason of Naina's decision to not let him be with her at that time... but it was now that he actually comprehended it, after seeing her state. Every movement made her flinch, she was unable to sit up, two nurses had to help her when she needed to go to the washroom, the way she put a hand on her stomach whenever she laughed, he was sure it hurt. When the bed was adjusted to give her a comfortable position so she could feed the babies, her lips were pressed in a thin line as she held her belly. But the moment she had the little one in her arms, a smile shone on her face, even though her eyes watered.
He slowly walked to her. Up close, he found a new radiance on her face. Probably this was the maternal glow he had read about... or it was the gratification of having achieved what appeared implausible. He felt not just admiration, but a huge respect for her grit and determination. Knowingly, she had gone ahead after being given just a flicker of hope... bearing every pain, every distress with fortitude. She fought with her fears, braved the dread of her past, and reached here today. He had loved her for a long time, but today he felt a deeper connection with her... he became hers even more.
In this state of repose, her forehead was smooth, devoid of the lines that were almost always present in last few months. He thought he saw a slight curve at the corner of her lips... a smile of relief, maybe. This was special... them having their own biological children was indeed special. His hand gently rested on her stomach. It felt surreal now that most of the bump was gone. She had nurtured their little angels in here, and given him the most precious gift of his life. It might be a regular thing happening all over the world, but only they both knew what it meant to them... MIRACLE. Their babies were no less than a miracle. He thanked the Gods, also her parents and his grandmother, for bringing this day in his life. Today, he knew he was abundantly blessed.
Feeling overwhelmed, he leaned and kissed her belly, over the covers. He was sure she couldn't feel it, yet the curve of her lips stretched a little.
He had just started to feel drowsy sometime later when a low pitched sound hit his ears. Before he could fathom its source, it turned to a rhythmic babbling, making him lunge towards the crib. Baby boy had his face scrunched, and was letting out repetitive sound which had to be a cry.
"Naina." He called out urgently, not knowing what to do.
She was up too, at the first sound, and asked him to get the baby to her. Carefully, he lifted the little one, and placed him in Naina's crook of arm. She put her other palm on baby's back, giving him the warmth of her body, caressing his cheek with the pad of her thumb. He turned calm in no time.
Sameer was disappointed. Since he hadn't seen his son awake till now, he was hoping that probably he would open his eyes too. He sadly gazed at the silent infant, "Yeh aankhen kab kholega?"
Naina smiled, and with a flick of her head, asked him to sit near her, close to baby's feet. She then rubbed baby's tummy, lightly tickling his cheek and nose simultaneously. The squirming started again. She went on to prod him till his body started to wriggle. But he did not open his eyes.
Looking at Sameer's earnestness, she suggested, "Tum baat karo isse... jaise pehle karte the."
His eyes twinkled as he remembered how babies always responded whenever he spoke to them. Leaning over the baby, he brought his face close to his and whispered, "Papa loves you... more than mumma."
The baby fidgeted some more, then his eyes opened slowly. Sameer held his breath, gazing into the soft brown pools that he was quite familiar with.
And just like he had fallen in love first time, he fell in love again... with his son who had his Naina's eyes.
The baby tried to focus, his gaze flickering over Sameer's face.
"Talk to him." Naina said in a low whisper.
Sameer gulped, unsure of what to say. She slightly pressed baby's cheek, making him shakily move his head. She again prodded Sameer.
"Kya bolu?" He whispered uneasily.
Rolling her eyes, she edged her arm slightly to turn the baby, and started to talk in soft, smooth voice, "Dekha baby, tumhare papa kitne buddhu hain."
The little one opened his eyes fully, and gazed at her, though his eyes remained unfocussed.
She carried on in the same tone, "Pata hai, jab mumma se mile the tab bhi baat nahi kar paate the." She glanced at Sameer who rubbed the back of his neck.
Smiling, she whispered, "But don't worry. Jaldi hi seekh jayenge. Hum milke sikha denge."
And to Sameer's absolute wonder, the baby smiled. His mouth fell open as he stared at the tiny toothless smile. The day turned better, the sun shone brighter, the place looked livelier... seeing his baby smile was the most spellbinding sight.
Wanted to bring the babies on chachukijaan's birthday but couldn't manage. Though, technically we are still on the day they were born so yeah
