Aaj bhi nayi lage teri har adaa
Title is the song 'Halka halka' from movie 'Raees'
It was almost after an hour of sitting together when Vishakha looked at Sameer, "Naina ke liye itni der baithna theek nahi hai. Tu isse room mein le ja. Main bachhon ko leke aati hun."
Naina was relieved to hear that, as she had started to feel the stiffness in her back. Though she loved the playful banters of Sameer and his siblings, and enjoyed how Ayush effortlessly played the role of elder brother for Arhaan, the numbness in her legs was making her uncomfortable.
Sameer helped her get up, but when she took halting steps towards the stairway, he scooped her in his arms without any hesitation.
"Yeh kya kar rahe ho?" She huffed, "Sab hain yahan pe."
He went up the stairs, unfazed, "Pair so gaye na. Aise mein gir gayi toh?"
She clutched his shirt, "Lekin Sameer, sabke saamne... papa aur nanu kya sochenge."
A corner of his lips curled in a lopsided smile, "Bas itna, ki unka beta kitna pyar karta hai unki bahu se. Waise main abhi tumhe kiss bhi kar sakta hun...sabke saamne."
"Achha?" Her eyes twinkled in amusement at his bragging, "Itne himmat wale bhi nahi ho."
"Madam, main kisi se darta warta nahi hun. Prove karke dikhaun?" His arm, where her head rested, lifted up, bringing her face closer to his.
In panic, she placed her fingers on his lips, her eyes widening as a loud "Nahi" escaped her mouth.
All heads turned towards them, followed by Vishakha's concerned voice, "Kya hua Naina?"
She quickly pulled her hand down, her face going pale.
Sameer stopped and looked back, "Maine Naina se pucha neeche utaar dun kya. Itni si baat pe gussa ho gayi."
Her face, that had gone white a minute back, coloured instantly.
Vivek's voice brought a smug smile on Sameer's face, "Tujhe leke jaane mein kya problem hai?"
"Mujhe koi problem nahi hai. Main toh roz aise ghum sakta hun Naina ko leke." Sameer winked, enjoying the way her face heated up at his teasing as he climbed rest of the stairs.
When he gently put her on the bed, Naina turned her face away. He kissed her cheek.
Wiping the cheek with a fist, she scoffed, "Paas mat aao mere. Main tumse gussa hun."
He chuckled, "Tum gusse mein aur bhi hot lagti ho."
She didn't look at him. She was mortified, also vexed at him for making it appear that she wanted to remain in his arms.
Sameer couldn't resist pressing a kiss again on the cheek that was right in front of his face.
She gasped, turning with a sharp glare.
He shrugged innocently, "Main toh bas manaa raha hun. Tum gussa ho na... isliye." And before she could utter a single word, he kissed her other cheek, "Maan gayi ya thoda aur..."
A firm hand on his chest stopped him when he tried to lean again. Amused, he looked down at her hand. Both of them knew the futility of her attempt if he wanted to surge ahead. However, he didn't.
Rather, he covered her hand with his own, smiling, "Aaj bhi jab tum dil pe haath rakhti ho toh dhadkan tez ho jaati hai. Can you feel it?"
It was impossible to remain angry when he was being so adorable. Also, with his face this close, she could see the prickles of his few days stubble that made her own heart flutter. Bringing up her other hand, she placed it on the side of his neck, grazing his jaw with her thumb, "Aur ab?"
She could feel the escalating heartbeats under her palm. His gaze fell to her lips, which were curled up with a hint of impish smile. She let her eyes roam lazily over his stubbled chin and jaw, her thumb following the trail of her gaze. Sameer was about the give in to his rising need to taste her inviting lips when the sound from outside made Naina pull back her hand immediately. With other hand, she pushed at his chest, murmuring urgently, "Bachhe aa gaye."
He was near the door when Vishakha and Preeti entered, carrying babies in their arms, followed by Rohan with Arhaan, nanu and Ayush.
That was when Naina noticed the small bedding placed in the center of their bed. Preeti carefully laid the baby on it, beside Naina, and patted softly when the baby stirred a little. When he slipped back to his comfortable sleep, Preeti looked up at Naina, "Tu badi lucky hai jo tere dono bachhe itna sote hain. Aru ko toh pehle din se sone se allergy hai. Ek ghanta laga ke sulati hun aur dus minute mein uth jaata hai."
Vishakha smiled, "Yeh toh ulta asar ho gaya. Bachpan mein Sameer Aru jaisa tha. Rohan sota rehta aur Sameer ko saara time... khelna ya khana."
Nanu chuckled as he looked at Sameer, "Kabhi kabhi humein lagta tha yeh dono sage bhai ho hi nahi sakte. Itne alag the ek doosre se. Rohan ekdum shaant aur Sameer, shararati."
Preeti saw the complacent smile on her husband's face, and let out a sigh, "Pata nahi bade hote hote kab role reversal ho gaya."
"Arre." Rohan widened his eyes, "Kitna shareef hun main, bilkul pehle jaisa seedha saada."
"Haan." Preeti stretched a fake smile, "Jalebi ki tarah."
Nanu and Vishakha let out a laugh while Sameer thumped Rohan's back, "Accept it yaar. Preeti galat thodi bolegi. Tujhe saalon se dekh rahi hai."
"Main jalebi hun?" Rohan looked at his son, hoping to get the usual head shake from him.
But Arhaan had by now developed a liking for the sweet that was often prepared on Ayush's insistence. Hearing the name, he grinned, and bit Rohan's jaw, digging his new tooth hard.
"Ahhh." He yelped, "Jab na bolna chahiye tab mat bola kar. Tu... bilkul apni mummy pe gaya hai."
"Yess." Preeti grinned as wide as Arhaan, taking him from Rohan, "Mera beta mere jaisa hi banega."
Ayush gripped Sameer's hand, "Aur main apne papa jaisa."
Nanu patted his head, "Tu toh pehle hi apne papa jaisa hai."
"Handsome na." Ayush said proudly.
Rohan ruffled his hair, "Papa se zyada handsome, kyonki tu apni mumma pe bhi toh gaya hai."
His naughty smirk was back when he saw Sameer's pursed lips and frown lines.
Seeing his possesive grandson's expression, nanu decided it was time to leave, "Achha bhai ab Naina ko aaram karne dete hain. Shaam ko jab bachhe uthenge tab hum bhi unke saath khelenge."
Vishakha agreed with her father, "Lunch ka time ho raha hai. Sameer, main Naina ka aur tera khaana bhijwati hun."
"Dadi maa, mera bhi." Ayush snuggled with Naina, "Main mumma ke paas rahunga."
Before Vishakha could object, Naina raised a hand, "Rehne dijiye mummy, kitne din baad chance mila hai."
"Lekin tumhe rest karna zaruri hai." Vishakha countered.
Ayush diligently answered, "Main tang nahi karunga. Mumma ko play karne ko bhi nahi bolunga. Aur slow slow baat karunga jisse mere baby brother aur sister uthenge nahi."
"Okay baba, tu toh hamesha se hi samjhdaar hai." Vishakha smiled warmly, "Tera lunch bhi bhejti hun."
By evening, Deepika had come back from her internship, and she wanted to spend time with the little ones. Others kept dropping by, sitting down to play if the babies were awake. Thankfully for Sameer, such times were very less but still everyone had a lot to talk about with his wife, even Ramdhari. And now, Deepika was narrating her office anecdotes with full enthusiasm. He wondered why everyone in the house had to share everything with Naina. It was much better in the hospital. Except for few rounds of doctors and nurses, it was mostly the two of them, with their babies. Not that he didn't want his family around, but presently, he craved for some moments with his wife, which had become elusive since morning.
Sameer felt it was after an eternity that Deepika finally left the room. Closing the door, when he turned, Naina was typing something into her phone, with a smile on her face.
"Kise text kar rahi ho?" He asked, keeping his voice casual.
Her eyes on the lit screen, she answered, "Vedika se chat kar rahi hun. Woh aajkal Bangalore mein hai na, isliye milne nahi aa sakti. Keh rahi hai har week ki pictures chahiye usse, inn dono ki."
"Oh!" Sameer uttered sadly, waiting for her to finish.
She went on to chat for quite a few minutes, giggling in between, clicking a picture of the twins, typing, sending a voice note... but did not look up at him once. He thanked his stars when she kept the phone away... only to pull out her diary from the drawer.
"Sweetheart, mera number kab ayega? Mera pehla kiss ab tak baaki hai." He looked at her hopefully, perching up on one elbow from other side of the bed, with their little ones between them.
Her eyes shot up. A smile bloomed on her face. Putting the diary aside, she leaned slightly, "Pehla kiss? Yeh kiss pehla kaise hua?"
The mischievous glint was back in his eyes, "Pehla hi hai... babies ke aane ke baad, unki mumma se."
"Aur jo ek week se hospital mein itni baar mila woh babies ki mumma se nahi tha?" Her brow quirked up.
He leaned some more, getting closer to her face, "Ghar mein pehla kiss. Ghar mein toh babies ke aane ke baad nahi mila na ab tak."
She rolled her eyes, "Yeh achha hai, har jagah ka alag alag hona chahiye kya... hospital ka, ghar ka, car ka, phir bologe terrace ka, bed ka, bathroom ka..." Her voice fell silent as the twinkle in his eyes made her realise the implication of her words.
"Dhatt." Blushing, she looked away, "Kuch bhi sochte ho tum."
He smiled cheekily, "Maine kahan kuch bola. Yeh saare idea toh tumhare hain."
She tried to move back but he held her wrist, dipping his head to the side and diminishing distance between them as he murmured, "Waise... I don't mind."
Her eyes met his, her cheeks still flaming. The husky tone of his voice was enough to make her tilt her head, parting her lips eagerly.
But before they could close the distance, their son announced with his soft cry that it was his turn for his mom's attention. After changing his diaper, and feeding him, Naina checked on their daughter. She seemed to be contented, because she was fed just an hour back, which meant it would be at least another hour before any of them woke up again. Nonetheless, the calculation failed when the baby girl started to twist her arms and legs, opening her eyes at the same moment when Sameer reached for Naina's hand.
Naina lifted her quickly, but she refused to take more feed. Even the diaper was fresh. She rocked the baby slowly, hoping to put her back to sleep. But their daughter seemed to be cranky for no reason.
Getting up from the bed, Sameer came around, "Main try karun?"
When the baby continued to fidget in his arms too, a memory of Ayush at that age flashed through Naina's mind.
"Sameer, idhar aao." She called out.
Taking her from him, she asked Sameer to hold her straight, against his chest. He was apprehensive initially, but she guided him by placing one of his hand under the baby and one behind her neck. Sameer's large palms covered the tiny bundle completely, Pressed to the center of his chest, she calmed down as long as he was walking but when he tried to put her in bed after a while, she began to squirm again.
"Aise hi pakad ke sulao. Ayush bhi aise hi sota tha." Naina whispered.
With great caution, Sameer laid down straight. Like a doll, his little princess slept peacefully, clinging to him, her soft pink hands fisted over his heart. It was a different feeling altogether. He had rocked her to sleep a few times in the hospital but this was new. Keeping his daughter so close, knowing that she was comfortable and snug, he felt proud of himself. The babies had felt this warmth in the womb when Naina was pregnant... and now he could provide the same warmth to them. Dipping his head, he kissed the side of her head lightly.
"Thodi der aise hi rakho phir dheere se turn karke bed pe sula dena." Naina said in a soft voice, patting her son gently.
It was probably half an hour later when Sameer murmured, "Naina, ab so gayi na?"
When there was no answer, he glanced in her direction. With her hand still on the baby, Naina had fallen asleep. He slowly turned sideways, lowering the little one on bed, and patted her the same way Naina always did. This time, she did not get up.
Taking a deep breath, Sameer gazed at his wife. It must have been more tiring for her today. Leaving the hospital, travelling, then spending time with the family, playing with Arhaan who was always delighted to be with Naina but was more energetic and hyper today. She hadn't even slept during the day, since Ayush wanted to show her all his homework. He had also missed his mom in last one week. Being a child, Vishakha did not get him to the hospital except two times, thus he was more eager to spend time with Naina, and she had complied.
He recalled what she had told him in the hospital one day after talking to Ayush on phone, "Yeh dono abhi chote hain, inki care karna zaruri hai lekin Ayush ko aisa nahi lagna chahiye ki hum babies ke aane ke baad usse kam time dete hain ya kam pyar karte hain. Usse pehle se zyada attention dena hoga. Waise toh Ayush bohot responsible aur understanding hai phir bhi main nahi chahti ki uske mann mein kabhi aisi koi feeling aaye. We have to be more careful with him."
He had agreed instantly. Ayush would always be his... their first child. He would love him as much, but it intrigued him how well Naina could gauge everyone's feelings, even in this state.
A gentle smile played on his lips as he noticed the serene expression on sleeping wife's face. In spite of all the pains and discomforts, she was extremely happy. So was he. There was a feeling of contentment that coloured his every cell. Naina had not just completed his life, but his family too, when she came with Ayush. Perfectly. And now, their complete world had got two more stars. Their sky was shining brighter for him. Leaning closer, he pressed a feathery kiss on her forehead. He didn't know how long he remained awake, admiring her.
