Chapter 5: First Night

Emiko

Oh dear god, Angel has a crush on Connor!!

At first, I thought I was seeing things, but every time Angel talked to him, she always got a little red. Now, did I tell anyone about this? No, I didn't. I thought it was best to keep it a secret. But it would've been funny as hell to expose it.

That night, after we all ate at the giant cafeteria in the main building, reality really hit me and Connor hard. Yeah, we'd been able to process a lot of this, however so much had happened today. Now we just needed to sleep on the whole thing. Wait.... Oh fu—!!!

Emiko: "Where are we going to be sleeping?"

Kaito: "Oh crap, yeah, we still don't know who your parents are. So we can't really put you in a certain wing"

Angel: "C-Connor can stay with me in my room until he's claimed by a god"

Oh god, I'm not letting this happen! I'm not about to let my brother stay in the same room as Angel. I was about to speak up, when Connor actually said something first.

Connor: "Thanks for the offer, but I don't want to bother you more than I already have"

Angel: "You haven't bothered me at all. You've done so much for me and we haven't even known each other a day. There's an extra bed in my room, so it'd be perfect"

Connor: "Are you sure?"

Angel smiled at him.

Angel: "Positive"

Connor: "Okay, I'll take you up on the offer"

Emiko: "Am I the only one who sees what's wrong here?!"

Kaito: "Not really. A lot of people typically bunk with other Demigods when they first arrive"

Emiko: "That's not what I meant..."

Himari giggled a little.

Himari: "She meant having a boy and a girl in the same room for the night"

Angel's face grew fiercely red as she looked away from us.

Connor: "She said there were two beds, so it's fine"

Emiko: "Connor, if you do something to get kicked out of here the first day, Apophis will be the least of your worries"

Connor: "Alright Tsundere, calm it down"

Himari put her arm over my shoulders.

Himari: "Emiko can stay with me for a while. The Norse wing is cold at night, but the inside of the dorms are nice and warm"

Emiko: "Sure, thanks for the offer"

Connor: "You'd think they'd have this already set up for us"

Kaito: "Especially since you're the new hot topic of the school. 3/4 of the school are dying fans now, however the other 1/4 isn't liking you in the slightest. They say what you did in the arena was unnatural"

Connor: "Coming from Demigods, that's saying something"

Angel grabbed Connor's hand.

Angel: "Come on, I'll show you my room"

Angel then dragged Connor off, deep into the Greek pantheon.

Emiko: "Wait... aren't the dorms separated by gender? What'll happen if he gets caught"

Himari: "He won't, Angel kept a baby dragon secret in her room for 6 months, so hiding Connor shouldn't be a problem"

Emiko: "You say it like it's so common..."

Kaito: "When you've been here long enough, nothing really surprises you anymore"

Kaito scratched the back of his head and yawned.

Kaito: "I'm gonna head back to the dorm. I'll see you two tomorrow"

Himari: "Okay, see you tomorrow!"

Kaito walked off to the Egyptian wing, meanwhile me and Himari walked in the opposite direction, to the Norse wing. This was the only wing I hadn't been to yet. It was actually really beautiful! The entire wing was a giant snowy forest. Which was kind of weird since the wing right across from it was part desert.

The main Norse building kind of looked like a church, however it was MUCH bigger than your typical church. It was more like a mansion than a church. But it had a Nordic look to it.

However this is where it differed from the other wings. Instead of having everything inside the main building, there were many more smaller ones, some for blacksmiths, some for classes, some for training, and many others.

Himari: "Welcome to the Norse wing! It may not look like much, but it's my home"

Emiko: "I learned a little about old Norse back in my history class, but there wasn't much to go off of, since most of the old texts were destroyed"

Himari: "If only the mortals knew all of the stories of the Norse gods, they would be star struck!"

Emiko: "So... where do we sleep?"

Himari: "Oh! Right, follow me"

Himari took me behind the main building, where there were hundreds of apartment buildings, all lined up.

Emiko: "Jesus Christ... I don't think you guys have enough"

Himari: "Okay, um... we don't really mention God or Jesus here"

Emiko: "Why?"

Himari: "Let's just say Jesus and Thor got into a bit of a fight, and we'll leave it at that"

Emiko: "I've always believed in Jesus and heaven. But... do I have to give it up now?"

Himari: "Well, now you know pretty much every god or goddess exists, so you should at least respect the gods of your heritage. But you can believe in what you want, we don't really discriminate about that"

Emiko: "Thank god..."

Himari: "That's 'Thank gods'"

Emiko: "I'm not going to get used to saying that"

Himari took me over to the forth building down and took me inside. The inside looked like your typical apartment building, however each door had a name on it. We went all the way down the hall on the top floor, and we reached her room. The door had her name on it in a golden plate. She held up a small stone, with a mark carved into it, to the door.

The rune glowed a green color, before the door opened automatically.

Emiko: "What the..."

Himari showed me the symbol.

Himari: "This is the rune of Loki. In the Norse wing, we each get a rune stone for our dorm room. And the rune changes based on who your god parent is"

Emiko: "This place is so cool!"

Himari gave me a smug smile as she walked in.

Himari: "And to think, you didn't trust us this morning. You probably thought we were gonna kill you in the woods"

Emiko: "H-How did you—"

I quickly walked inside, hoping to get an answer from her, however the inside of the apartment surprised me a lot.

The inside was like an entire house, though the outside made it look like a really small apartment. There was a large kitchen, living room, a nice sized bathroom, a freaking walk in closet with a bunch of clothes in it, and a huge bedroom with two king sized beds.

Himari responded to my question once we were both inside.

Himari: "I'm the daughter of Loki, so I can use a little magic, as well as transforming into animals. Like... I can read your mind!"

Emiko: "Y-You can?!"

Himari: "Yeah, I can. As clear as if you were talking"

I immediately thought of a really funny joke in my mind. After a few seconds, Himari started laughing.

Himari: "Oh dear gods! That was a good one! Probably not appropriate for the story, but it was still funny as Helheim"

Emiko: "That is seriously overpowered!"

Himari: "Well, I have to actually have physical contact with the person I want to read the mind of. But enough of that, make yourself at home"

I walked over to her couch and sat down, while she grabbed two cold Gatorade's from the fridge and sat down next to me. She passed the Gatorade to me. However when I took a sip from it, it seemed like no Gatorade was drank.

Emiko: "What the..."

Himari: "Oh, yeah. Most drinks here are auto refillable. So even if you attempt to drink it all, it will just be refilled"

Emiko: "This place is just amazing, besides the, you know, demigods who hate us and the fact a giant snake thing wants to kill us all"

Himari: "Like we keep saying, you'll get used to it. We had a bit of an encounter with Jormungandr about a month back. I think it was April"

Emiko: "That's when we had that big earthquake!"

Himari: "And that was because of Jormungandr! He's super nice, really. Since I'm a child of Loki, I'm able to speak to him. Everyone makes him out to be this horrible monster who will eventually kill Thor, even though he will end up killing him. He's just misunderstood"

Emiko: "Speaking of, I've been wondering how you ended up here"

Himari: "It's actually a long story, so I'll shorten it for you"

Himari took her bracelets off before speaking.

Himari: "I was raised alone with my mother, not too far from where we found you two. But one day, a strange man appeared at the front door. He claimed to be my father, even though I'd hadn't seen him my entire life. Then, when my Mom saw him, she only grew a sad look on her face. Then, they sat me down and told me everything. My dad is Loki, I'm a demigod, and all that stuff. Really, all this went down about a month ago, 2 days before the Jormungandr incident"

Emiko: "I never expected Loki to be so kind to his children"

Himari pouted.

Himari: "What's that supposed to mean?"

Emiko: "Well, you know, he is kind of a big part of the whole end of the world thing"

Himari: "That has yet to happen. So until then, we can trust him to be a good person"

After a while, my attention was drawn to her bracelets.

Emiko: "Hey, what's with the bracelets?"

Himari quickly put them back on and flicked her wrist. The two green gems that dangled down from them started to disconnect from the bracelets, only to be connected to a thin chain that was coming out of the bracelets.

Himari: "Have you ever seen Spider Man?"

Emiko: "Yeah, why?"

Himari: "Well, it's kind of similar. I can change the length of the chains, which are unbreakable, whenever I want. And the thing is, the gems are actually extremely heavy to those who don't wear the bracelets. Here, try to lift them"

Himari extended the chains long enough to where the gems were resting in the couch. I grabbed one of them with my fingers, however even with all of my strength, I could only get it about 2 inches off the couch. Then, after setting them back down, Himari picked them up like they were nothing.

Emiko: "How the—"

Himari: "They feel weightless to the wearer, but extremely heavy to everyone else. So it makes it easy to use, and deadly to others. And the best part, when I shapeshift, they stay attached to my body, so I can still use them, even when I transform"

I took my bow off my back and set it in my lap.

Emiko: "I wonder what my bow can do"

Himari: "Well, like I said, Avalon fires arrows made of Arcane. However depending on if you're the child of someone like Poseidon or Thor, you could shoot water or lightning arrows"

Emiko: "Oh, I would definitely go for fire arrows!"

Himari: "If one of you gets claimed by a god, then both of you are the children of that god. You two may end up in the same class as us"

Emiko: "Speaking of, what kind of classes are there?"

Himari: "Well, the special classes depend on which wing you're in. If you're in the Norse or Egyptian wing, you'll have a class about the runes and hieroglyphs. But the basic classes are the history of each mythology, as well as stuff like Monster Biology, Weapon Forgery, Battle Training, Ancient Language, Math"

I let out a disappointed sigh.

Emiko: "I would think a school with demigods wouldn't have to deal with math..."

Himari: "It's definitely necessary for some of the stuff demigods do"

After about half an hour of talking about the school, I was seriously ready for sleep. My eyes felt heavy and I could feel myself getting really drowsy.

Himari: "Looks like you're ready for bed"

Emiko: "Yeah, I'm exhausted. Long day, it feels like it's been going on forever"

Himari: "Actually, it's almost 10am, we should probably get some sleep. We don't want to be late"

Emiko: "Oh crap, I don't have any pajamas"

Himari: "Just sleep in your—"

Emiko: "I swear to god, if you say in my underwear, I'm moving out"

Himari: "We're both girls"

Emiko: "That doesn't matter. I've seen enough h*ntai to know where this goes. Can I just borrow some pajamas for the time being?"

Himari just laughed.

Himari: "I was just kidding, and sure, you can borrow some"

Himari went through her drawers and pulled out a pair of pink footie pajamas which had bunny ears.

Emiko: "You can't be serious"

Himari: "It's either wear this or—"

My face grew a hint of red.

Emiko: "Okay! Fine! I'll wear the damn bunny pajamas!"

I snatched them from her hands and went into the bathroom to change into them. When I came back out, Himari had a camera ready, so she took a picture of me.

Emiko: "W-What the hell!!"

Himari: "Ah, blackmail, the best thing in the world"

Emiko: "I'm supposed to be the smartass of the group!"

Himari: "Fine, I'll destroy it in the morning"

I walked over to the bed farthest from the door and plopped down onto it. The bed was really comfy, especially compared to the one at home. I looked over to Himari, who was already in her own footie pajamas, however these were a bright green.

Emiko: "Do you ever miss your home?"

Himari: "Of course I do. But it's better for Mom. Monsters are attracted to demigods, and they'll attack anyone near them. So being away from her is the best thing I can do to protect her"

Himari looked over to me.

Himari: "What about your parents?"

Emiko: "Oh... well... I never knew my mother. According to Father, she went missing the day we were born"

Himari: "Oh gods, I'm so sorry"

Emiko: "It's fine. But about 5 years ago, he died, leaving me and Connor alone with no other family. Thankfully, he was pretty rich at the time. So we're set until we get out of high school. But... we still don't exactly know how he died"

Himari: "It's sad, but every demigod has a rough past. I don't really wanna talk about mine. But that's a feeling we can all relate with. We're one big family, no matter how you look at it"

Emiko: "Okay, this is getting a little too deep for a conversation right before bed. So I'm just going to pass out. Night"

Himari: "Goodnight, Emiko"

I turned over and quickly slipped into sleep. Now, of course, I couldn't just be let off the hook that easily. Something weird had to happen.

I started to dream, which never happened in my entire life. It felt really weird, maybe because I'd never dreamt before. Or maybe it was because it felt a little too real. But nonetheless, it was scary.

I was in a big, open field of tall dead grass. There was nothing around me, not even a sky. No, seriously, the sky wasn't there, It was pitch black.

Suddenly, a figure appeared about 20 feet in front of me. They were facing away from me, so I couldn't tell who they were. However, as they slowly turned around, I recognized who it was.

Emiko: "C-Connor?"

When he turned to me, his eyes were closed. The second he opened them. The ground beneath me disappeared, and all that was around us was darkness. When I looked back at him, my breath escaped my body.

His eyes were that same chaotic yellow as when he was back in Duellum. His mouth was shaped into a twisted, almost psychotic smile. The same blood red aura surrounded him, almost like he was drowning it in. He suddenly appeared in front of me, only saying one thing before fading back into the darkness.

Connor: "The end grows near, but with every death, not a single tear. On this day of endless reckoning, the serpent of chaos will sing. In the fields of the dead, the sky will bleed red. On the final moon, of which the corpse will cry, I wonder which of you will be the one to die"
