Connor

You know, I hate quests. Especially when one of your party members doesn't even bother to show up. Yeah, Siyuka didn't even show up. I mean, this was kind of a blessing in disguise. None of us would've gotten along with her, but still, there goes one of our best fighters. Angel mentioned we'd be seeing a bunch of monsters as we travel the world. If they were anything like Biology has made them out to be, we're in trouble.

So, in total, our final group was this.

- Connor (Son of Heka)
- Emiko (Daughter of Heka)
- Angel (Daughter of Hades)
- Himari: (Daughter of Loki)
- Kaito (Son of Sobek)

Yeah, this wasn't your legend 7 demigods, but it was the best we could come up with. We had actually discussed this with the Gods, specifically Odin. He was a war god, so if anyone knew what we should do in the midst of war, it was him.

The reason Kaito was coming was because he had ties with Egypt, and him being the son of Sobek would mean we'd probably have a good amount of support there.

Himari was coming along because she knew a lot about Ragnarok, even surprising Odin with her knowledge. Her shape shifting also made her crucial to this quest.

Angel was chosen because of her ties with the dead. If we encountered any dead, which we most likely would, she could communicate with or even control them.

And since Emiko needed to see Heka, it was obvious she would come along.

And I'm the one who came up with the plan, so it made sense.

We had all gathered in the giant courtroom of the four major ruler gods, with Emiko still in a wheelchair. Besides us and the ruler gods, Aphrodite, Ares, and a few other gods were there as well. It was also around 6pm. The gods say Apophis is most active during the morning and night, since Ra is at his weakest at night. And in the morning, Ra is still regaining his power.

Ra: "You 5 will go on a very dangerous quest. Once you leave Mytho-Academy, we can no longer protect you. You will be on your own. You will encounter monsters only gods have ever survived an encounter with. Your chances of success are extremely slim. With that in mind, if you decide to back out, no one will blame you"

Kaito: "Remind me again why none of you can come with?"

Ares: "If we get close to Apophis, he'll be able to sense us. But a few demigods shouldn't be noticed on his radar. Besides, it'd be suicidal to track him down"

We were all silent, until Angel spoke up.

Angel: "I don't care, we have to try. If we just give up now, what's the point of even being trained as demigods"

Kaito: "You're right. We've been trained to protect the mortal world. And even if we die in the process, at least we did what we were meant to do"

Himari: "I'm going to prove my father's innocence. Going out there is the only way to do that"

Emiko: "All of you have these big speeches ready. But I'm gonna be honest, I got nothing"

Connor: "Same, let's just go. The sooner we get going, the more time we have"

Aphrodite walked up to me and handed me a backpack. It looked like a typical blue and black school backpack.

Aphrodite: "Everything you need for your quest can be found in here"

Connor: "Everything? This can't be it"

Aphrodite giggled.

Aphrodite: "It may look like a simple bag, but it can actually fit as many things inside it as possible. If you can think of it, it's in there. Just imagine what you want and put your hand in there"

Connor: "Could I just imagine Apophis?"

Aphrodite: "Don't know, we've never tried. But I suggest you don't"

I slung the backpack over my shoulders.

Odin: "We will create a portal for you. It will take you right to Egypt, however it will be up to you to navigate to the Pyramid of Giza. Kaito, the team will rely on you for this"

Kaito: "Of course, I won't let my team down"

Ra turned to Emiko.

Ra: "I hope you get well. Everyone in Mytho-Academy is rooting for a quick recovery"

Emiko: "Thanks"

Ra stepped back.

Ra: "We pray for your success. Whether you fail or succeed, we will still be extremely proud of you. However I have no doubt you will be successful in your quest"

Ra held his hand out, and a oak door appeared in front of us. It swung open, revealing a bright orange light.

Ra: "Good luck, and may the ancestors look after you"

Kaito was the first to enter the door and faded into the light. Next was Angel, then Emiko with Himari pushing her wheelchair. I was about to step into the door when Ra put his hand out.

Ra: "I apologize, however I must warn you of something"

Connor: "What?"

Ra: "Heka may be a god of magic and medicine, but he doesn't do these things for free. At times, he's even scammed demigods out of their lives. Albeit they were turned demigods, but still demigods nonetheless"

Connor: "So just be careful, got it"

He moved his arm away, and I stepped into the door.

On the other side was a giant desert. And straight ahead of us, was the great pyramids.

Angel: "They're so beautiful!! This is my first time seeing them!"

Kaito: "It's amazing, right? These pyramids are one of the oldest remaining wonders of the world!"

Connor: "I didn't expect to be dropped off this close to the pyramids. I thought we'd be a little farther away"

Kaito: "Normally, that'd be the case. Ra typically sets demigods farther away, just to make the quest more meaningful. But our quest, this is life or death, for everyone"

Emiko: "Way to set the mood..."

Himari: "Let's just go, we don't have time to waste"

Himari started walking towards the pyramids, leading us to follow her. I walked up to Kaito.

Connor: "Is it just me, or does Himari have a bit of an emotional thing going on"

Kaito: "What would you do if you found out your dad killed someone?"

Connor: "Help him hide the body"

Kaito and I laughed a little.

Kaito: "Seriously though, it isn't easy for her"

Connor: "I get that, but... she's getting too worked up. If something happens..."

Kaito: "I know, we'll just have to keep an eye on her"

We eventually got to the Giza Pyramid, however my suspicions were correct. There were guards and security cameras all over the place. I didn't expect this to be a cake walk, but it was a little overboard.

Kaito: "Okay... plan B. Let's camp out until night time. We may have a better chance of getting in at night"

Angel: "I would normally be able to transport us instead using the shadows, but there are none"

Kaito: "We'll set up camp over there"

Kaito pointed to a flat area with a few hills surrounding it, perfect for camping and not getting caught.

Himari: "We don't have time for this. Let's just rush in"

Connor: "Okay, I'll be the one to say it. You're letting your emotions about your dad get the best of you. You aren't thinking clearly. We'll clear your dad's name, but we need to be alive to do that. And if we don't complete this quest, we all die, and your dad will remain evil"

Himari grabbed me by my hoodie collar.

Himari: "What do you know?! You don't know what it's like to feel this way!! Your mom is dead and your dad abandoned you!! They can't join the enemy and betray everyone!!!"

Kaito: "HIMARI!!!"

Himari's face suddenly broke. Her furious face suddenly shattered, and was replaced by sadness and guilt. She let go of me and stepped back.

Himari: "I-I'm sorry... I... didn't mean it..."

I put my hand on her shoulder.

Connor: "No, you're right. I don't know what you're going through. But we're all here to help you. Especially Emiko over there, she really cares about you"

Emiko: "Don't go putting words in my mouth"

Connor: "Tsundere as always..."

Emiko: "Oh! Just wait until I can walk again!!"

Himari laughed a little.

Connor: "Point is, you're not alone. We're in this together"

Himari wiped a tear away from her eyes with her arm.

Himari: "T-Thank you..."

Connor: "Now that that's settled, let's go set up camp"

We all went over to the area for our camp and started setting everything up. Apparently, a full sized tent was in this backpack. Fully put up and everything. The outside of it looked small, but the second you walked in, it was a 50x50 feet (15x15 Meters) bedroom with 5 beds.

We set up a camp fire, along with a few folding chairs. We waited until night to start the fire. After a while, everyone started to feel tired, mainly Emiko.

Himari and Angel helped Emiko into her bed, and those two also went to sleep. Meanwhile, Kaito and I were sitting by the fire. I noticed he was rubbing his crocodile ring.

Connor: "Hey, where'd you get that?"

Kaito: "My father, Sobek. He gave me this and my sword. I'm actually his only living child, so I get all the good stuff"

Connor: "What does it do? I saw it glow whenever you open a portal"

Kaito: "This ring allows me to open portals to places I've been. However it has a charge limit"

Connor: "Man, I wish I could get something like that. I just got this boomerang sword"

Kaito: "Hey, you use it pretty well. It's an odd weapon, but still pretty badass"

Connor: "I've been meaning to ask you. How did you get into Mytho-Academy? According to Angel, you're one of the strongest demigods in the school"

Kaito: "Well, most Demigods in Mytho-Academy have some tragic backstory that made them go to there. But me, nope. I was pretty average. Lived not too far from here, in City Giza"

Connor: "What was it like?"

Kaito: "Very fun, I gotta say. Lived with my mom, dad, and sister. Well, step dad and sister"

I chuckled a little.

Connor: "Step, very important"

Kaito: "One day, I accidentally made the water fountain at my school explode. That was one of the coolest moments of my life. And you know what? Never got caught"

We both laughed.

Kaito: "Anyways, after that, mom told me everything about how I was a demigod, and my real dad was Sobek. I was pretty excited, and I even managed to meet Sobek in the mortal world. I actually was able to train under Sobek himself for a while. That's how I got so good at fighting. He gave me this ring and the sword, to prove I passed his training. Then, he brought me to Mytho-Academy"

Connor: "Wow, how was the training?"

Kaito: "Pretty difficult, but I managed. It came with some crazy benefits too. I can control water, breathe underwater, talk and control crocodiles, hell, even swim faster than a race car can drive on land"

Connor: "The human speed boat"

Kaito: "But even though I'm crazy strong, I'm still looked down upon by most Demigods. Demigods from Egyptian mythology are very rare, and considered unnatural or unneeded. The hierarchy is there, but I try not to let it bother me. Roman and Greek are at the top, Norse is in the middle, and Egyptian is at the very bottom"

Kaito leaned back and yawned.

Kaito: "Well, there you go. My whole life story. Mind if I pick your brain a little?"

Connor: "Sure, what's up?"

Kaito: "What did Aphrodite need you for? She needed to talk to you in private. Knowing you, it wasn't for a fun night"

I was a little hesitant about telling him, but I finally gave in.

Connor: "She tested my blood for traces of Apophis still inside me"

Kaito: "So he was possessing you... I knew it"

Connor: "And it was confirmed. I have a little Apophis DNA in me"

Kaito: "Does anyone else know?"

Connor: "The ruler gods, Aphrodite, and maybe Ares. Other than that, I don't think so"

Kaito: "Apophis may be keeping an eye on us"

Connor: "Aphrodite gave me a charm that keeps me from being possessed. She said Ra himself used one similar when he fought Apophis"

Kaito: "Still, that's a little creepy"

I put my hands on my head and looked down at the ground.

Connor: "I've been trying to hide it... but... I'm freaking out on the inside"

My body started shaking.

Connor: "The entire fate of literary everything rests on our shoulders. If we fail, we'll be dead by the end of the week. That's... not treating me very good"

Kaito: "Yeah, I know how you feel. This whole thing is messed up"

Connor: "I... just want to protect Emiko"

Kaito: "You really care about her, huh?"

Connor: "She's my sister, and I have to do everything I can to keep her safe. When I was about... 8, I had a dream where I met my mom. It felt so real, like it was really happening. She made me promise to keep Emiko safe, no matter what happens. And I've kept that to this day. Well... until Siyuka showed up"

My hands started shaking even more.

Connor: "I'm just scared, man. I don't want to die... I don't want Emiko to die... I won't want everything to die... I don't want to fail everyone"

Kaito: "We'll complete this quest, and we'll all come out alive"

I looked up at him.

Connor: "Thanks... I just needed to vent a little"

I tried to keep my body from shaking.

Connor: "But... something Apophis said yesterday is sticking with me. He said..."

Kaito: "That either you or Emiko won't make it out of this alive. Yeah, I've been thinking about it too"

Connor: "If it comes down to it, either me or her, she's living, whether she likes it or not"

Kaito: "I think he was just bluffing, just attempting to scare you"

Connor: "I hope that's the case..."

I yawned.

Kaito: "Why don't you go sleep? I'll keep watch"

Connor: "What, do you not want to sleep in a tent with girls in it?"

Kaito: "Actually, yes. Spot on. I respect their privacy, and I want my own privacy"

Connor: "Not what I meant... but okay"

I got up from my chair and walked over to the tent. I was about to enter when I felt the ground start to shake. Kaito felt the same thing and grabbed his sword.

Connor: "What's that?!"

Kaito: "Wake everyone up! We gotta move!!"

Suddenly, something shot straight out of the sand. It shot high into the sky, and somehow, part of it's body was still underground. When it stopped, I realized it was a giant snake.

Connor: "A-Apophis?!"

Kaito: "No, much worse!! Get Himari! NOW!!!"

I quickly ran inside the tent, and saw everyone was already awake.

Emiko: "What's going on?!"

Connor: "Some snake just came out of the sand! Kaito says Himari needs to get out there!"

Himari sighed and got out of bed. She walked out of the tent, not bothering to get changed into something other than her pajamas. She then looked up into the sky. It was then that I could see this thing's face. And dear god, this gave me nightmares for years.

The serpent was huge, with light blue scales. It's teeth were probably sharper that Apophis, though I wasn't going to try exact measurements. It's eyes were yellow, but they didn't have the same chaos feel Apophis gave off. The only thing that made this serpent more frightening was that he was much bigger than Apophis.

Himari: "Seriously, Jormungandr? Bad time for a family reunion"
