The night would always start out so smooth and calm for the scientist. Each day would bring another solution and each solution would lead to more answers.
Well, unfortunately for that one unfaithful night.
The laboratory had long closed, leaving the scientist with the keys.
He was so close to finding a cure.
So, so close!
But with the last drop of the black boiling liquid and five minutes of an anticipating wait, Namjoon sighs in defeat.
His shoulders slump, his foot hitting the table in annoyance as he failed himself once again.
The bottle stumbles, causing Namjoon to freeze, stopping as the round tube tumbles to the side, slowly making its way down the table.
Namjoon holds his breath, panic freezing when everything seems to go into slow-motion, his hand reaching out to grab the falling tube, until it shatters on the ground.
The black boiling liquid splashes everywhere, covering Namjoon's white lab coat, his hands, his pants, his shoes, and his pride as he sinks down to his knees.
He bites his lip, preventing his frustrated annoyance to fall further.
He wipes his hands clean with a towel and stands in front of the big window, sighing deeply the big stars shining.
They have something to shine for.
Namjoon however...
He looks down at his hands, a frown appearing on his face as the black liquid he just wiped away has reappeared.
Further than it was... Almost inside of his skin.
Namjoon pulls his sleeve back, a short gasp escaping his lips as the black inky liquid crawls further up his hand to his wrist, sinking into his veins.
He lets out a scream when it shoots up his arm, to his neck and his chest, reaching for his back where Namjoon feels his skin stretching and crawling.
He falls to his knees, tears of the black ink falling from his eyes instead of watery tears, his throat hurting as it hits his adam's apple.
He hurries to pull off his lab coat, his back burning in pain.
His hands tremble, a sudden rush of strength running through his arms and his chest when reaching for his shirt, accidentally flinching, ripping it off, the fabric burning over the sensitive rip on his back.
He screams, the skin on his back slowly ripping itself apart, blood running down his back as the skeleton of black bones grows itself out of the wounds like spikes.
He gasps, a loud demonic growl screeching from his throat, his eyes flaring wide open, his dark iris swirling into a deep reddish amber with a yellow surrounding.
The skeleton from his back hurts, each inch of the growth sending horrifying spurts of pain down his body.
He turns his head, staring at the dark feathers that cover the skeleton.
Finally the pieces click together for him.
The black ink he was told never to use had a risk. A risk no one ever told him because they never used it.
Namjoon had his suspicions that this did not come from earth.
With a loud growl, he finally feels his muscles again, his wings curling around his body as if protecting him while he catches his growling breath, anger surging through his veins.
It's a sudden predator instinct that latches onto him and won't let go.
He stares down a his black tainted claws, caressing his sensitive feathers.
His pointy ear twitches at the sound of a laugh outside, his bright eyes immediately snapping towards the warm colored silhouette.
Was that human?
Namjoon can't remember anymore. All he can see is warm and cold colors, and those warm colored things smell very good.
Namjoon bares his sharpened teeth, a loud growl erupting from his tight throat, his wings spreading widely before he lunges himself out of the window.
Glass shatters around him, his wings cutting through them.
As the fold around his body before spreading again, pushing the wind up from under the feathers.
A deep growl emerges from his throat as he bares his sharp teeth, taking a moment to look around before diving on top of his preys.
His wings fold to his back, the wind tearing in his bright eyes as he bares his sharp teeth just before hitting the ground, spreading his wings and snatching one of the humans, biting into his neck and ripping the skin off as he catches himself in the air.
He lets out a bone chilling growl, tearing the human's head off the shoulders, growling and scowling to his companion, who shivers and cries with fear as the head falls to the ground and splatters on the road.
Namjoon, amused by the human's fear, lands down on the ground, towering over the second human.
"P-please!" The human begs. "I'll do anything! Spare me, please!" He cries, falling to his knees.
Namjoon feels a rush of pleasure running through him at the sight of the pathetic human in front of him.
He kneels down, his wings folded back as his black claws force the crying mortal to look up at him.
"What's your name?" He growls.
"H-Hoseok!"
"Hoseok, who?"
"J-Jung Hoseok!"
"Good boy." Namjoon smirks, curling his nail under the human's chin. "I could use a test subject."
"T-test sub-"
"You only speak when ordered to."
Hoseok squeaks and nods, afraid of what the creature would do to him if he disobeyed.
Namjoon looks back at the dead head of his friend, a chuckle flowing from his lips. "Your friend was an easy prey. Flailing arms, talking loudly, heart beating fast. He was all red and orange."
"Red and o--?"
"Did I say you could speak?"
Hoseok looks down and shakes his head. He wants to say he's sorry, but he doesn't want to anger him more.
"Very good." Namjoon smirks. "Now, whenever you have a question, you shall address me by my name. When you ask me your question, you wait for the reply. I do not want to see any useless actions in my sight. Is that understood?"
Hoseok nods quickly.
"Good."
Namjoon scoops the human up in a flash and spreads his wings, shooting into the sky.
Hoseok, being terrified of hights, screams and clamps onto Namjoon's toned chest, silently admiring the hard muscle.
He'd be dead if he told him that.
Namjoon quickly flies up, back to the laboratory where everything went wrong.
He looks down at the human, noticing his heat radius increasing.
"Are you afraid?"
Hoseok nods.
Namjoon lets out a frustrated growl. Out of the all the humans he saved it was one who was afraid of flying.
Just. Great.
Namjoon quickly bursts through the window and sets the human down safely, grabbing his ripped shirt off the ground and his lab coat.
He sighs deeply and discards them out the window, rolling his neck around his shoulders.
Hoseok quickly rushes to the desk, whining when he steps in the black blobs on the floor.
Namjoon growls at him at the squelch and Hoseok retreats quickly.
"Don't touch that with your naked skin." He growls. "You'll end up like this."
Hoseok looks up at him, gulping as the entity glares back at him. His bright red and yellowish eyes glinster like rain within the moonlight as his wings are merely shaded by a hint of silver in their black void.
His chest rises and falls calmly, his full lips turned down into a cold frown.
Hoseok looks down at all the paper and files on the desk, picking up a few.
If this stuff turned a normal human into this, than there should be some information...
"What do you look like?" Namjoon asks suddenly.
"Huh?" Hoseok looks up, in the flinch dropping one of the files into the black ink.
Namjoon turns around to him. "I see in heat. I can't make up colors of skin or eyes."
Hoseok looks up at him, nervously taking a strand of his own hair. "Well..."
Should he tell? Maybe he wants to eat him up and wants know where to start...
He sighs and looks back at the predator, who is eyeing him like a hawk.
"I have brown hair but I haven't washed it yet so it's not as fluffy anymore..." He starts nervously.
Namjoon cocks his head and takes big steps towards him, reaching a black tainted hand out to touch the dark fluff on Hoseok's head.
Letting a hesitant purr rumble in his chest, Namjoon smiles slightly and continues to run both of his slender fingers through Hoseok's hair.
"It's soft." He says. "And very smooth."
Hoseok feels his cheeks redden, heat coursing through him when he focuses on the sharp nails caressing his scalp.
Namjoon chuckles lightly, taking a hold of Hoseok's jaw, caressing it and going up towards his cheeks, his full lips turning into a curious pout at the darkening color.
"Continue..." Namjoon mumbles, still playing with Hoseok's hair.
Hoseok stumbles over his words as he speaks, telling Namjoon about his eyes and his small dimples.
It all seems so fascinating to Namjoon. How a human can look so different from the outside, but so warm on the inside...
He feels himself drowning in animalistic instincts. Growling, purring, asserting dominance.
His soft gesture of running his hand through Hoseok's hair turns into grabbing his strands, tugging at it harshly.
He hears Hoseok gasp and whine that it hurts, causing amusement to stir within the winged male.
A smirk crawls onto his lips at the cry of pain and he forces the human down on his knees, ignoring the mess of black liquid on the floor.
With one of his sharp nails, Namjoon rips a hole within Hoseok's shirt, the cold air of the high laboratory hitting his bare skin.
"Doesn't it just feel good?" Namjoon asks with a sinister smile. "The cold? The exposion? The danger of being so close to becoming like me..."
Hoseok's heart pounds in his chest, tears of fear brimming in his eyes, as Namjoon teases his bare skin.
Just one single push and his hands would have to hold him up and he'd be done for. Just one push and he'd have to save himself some other way.
"Trust me, human, when I say that it hurts." Namjoon growls, tearing his nails through the fabric. "A lot."
"B-but I-"
"You what?" Namjoon snarls. "Humans are foolish. Full of self-centered selfish pricks. They don't think with their brains, but with their eyes."
"W-what-?"
"You humans never take the time to look on the inside!" Namjoon yells angrily, growling in frustration. "It's looks. And just that. If you're handsome, than that's that, but if you even have one wrinkle in the wrong place, people suddenly don't like you!"
Hoseok gulps nervously as Namjoon's hands clench to fists. He knows the pain, yet wonders why Namjoon doesn't.
"I've been there..." Hoseok mumbles. "I've been dumped, used, betted on." He growls angrily. "One of the men I once loved used me to get my dignity. My first time. He just wanted to prove could get anyone, and I was his victim..."
Namjoon cocks his head. "What are you saying?"
"That I know the pain of being used." Hoseok answers, looking up into Namjoon's bright eyes. "I know the pain of being broken. I know the pain of being left behind!"
Namjoon growls at him, his wings clenching, the muscle within the skeleton feathers pulling together. The uppull of his wings scares Hoseok, as the human falls back at the sudden threat.
Namjoon is quickly to react, diving down to scoop the human under his wing, already tense from the reaction, almost pulling a muscle when Hoseok lands on them.
"W-what-?"
"I told you to be careful. Move away from this." Namjoon mutters, pushing Hoseok up and away. "I'll clean this."
Hoseok immediately pushes back, whining at how insisting and protective Namjoon is over the liquid.
"I can clean it too! I've done multiple jobs in cleaning industries and had to endure those asswipes who keep yelling at you that the job is for women, that you missed a spot, and that there is something not there!"
"I wasn't implying that-"
"No! You're acting as if I'm a vulnerable human being who is made of an eggshell and will be broken when smashed! I have news for you, Thing! I can be important too! I can be myself! I can stand up for myself and be who I am!"
"Again, I wasn't implying that." Namjoon begins calmly, his tone holding an impatient growl. "You made this like that. Humans are fragile and can be broken when pulled at the right bone for too long. And I also have news for you, Hoseok."
Hoseok gulps as Namjoon takes nearing steps towards him.
"I have a name. And you better respect me by it."
"B-but I don't know it!"
"Than you learn to speak to your superior."
"H-how do you know if I'm not older?"
"In this form, I don't need a human to tell me that they're older or not. It won't matter." Namjoon chuckles darkly, his eyes shining with hunger. "They're my meal anyway."
Hoseok yelps, diving away from a lunging, growling Namjoon.
But the scientist isn't having it. He growls and uses his wing to sharply cut Hoseok off in his path, forcing the human to make a trip fall, sliding over the floor with a cry of pain.
His hand feels like it's sticky. Like glue has latched onto him.
Namjoon's eyes are wide, realizing his mistakes and quickly grabs one of his important files, trying to clean the black liquid on Hoseok's hand.
They make be small splashes, but they can be horrifically consuming.
As Namjoon desperately tries to rub the liquid away, he notices no more spots left, none of them sinking into his skin.
With a sigh of relief, Namjoon runs his hands through his hair and leans his hands on his forehead.
"You're so reckless and naive." He mumbles. "You insisted on proving that you were strong and almost went through the worst pain in your life!"
Hoseok flinches at his shouting, looking down at his lap.
But the more Namjoon yells, the more the creature suddenly notices his blank stare, yet full of worry.
He follows the human's eyes, his own growing wide when he notices the veins of the human spreading with black liquid.
He had forgotten the other arm.
Hoseok whimpers, telling Namjoon he's sorry and that he should have listened, but no. Namjoon is not taking that anymore.
Not tonight.
He grabs the human's face, growling at him. "Listen Hoseok. You've been getting on my nerves from hour one. But I'm not letting you down-talk yourself like that. You are going to be one of my kind whether you like it or not. I can't really remember who I was before, but what I do know is that whatever happens, I'll be there to guide you. Through every little change."
Hoseok gives him a weak smile before his face pulls and he screams, jerking his arms and pressing his hands against his chest, curling over and rolling around to ease the burning and scratching pain.
Namjoon immediately grabs his hands, locking Hoseok in a belly lock. He forces him onto his stomach, already getting words of protest from him.
Hoseok jerks and screams to be let go, the skin on his back crawling in fire.
He sees the black tears running down Hoseok's cheeks and he sees the skin on his back throbbing and pulsing before the skin rips open with an insanely loud scream.
Hoseok jerks and Namjoon keeps holding him down, although he notices a significant change in Hoseok's strength.
The male was growling, pulling and tugging with much more force, almost losing Namjoon's grip, but held tight as blood falls from his back, the skeleton of his wings growing in place through his ripped shirt.
Namjoon was fascinated. The growth of Hoseok's wings had him reaching out to touch it, but Hoseok quickly takes it to his advantage and breaks free from his hold, growling loudly at him and hissing, anything to keep him away.
With sharp nails he begins to lunge for Namjoon's throat, snapping his jaw to try and take a deep bite from the flesh of his fellow species.
Namjoon returns the threat, calmly waiting until Hoseok is done.
He tilts his head, seeing Hoseok pant slightly and falling to his knees, hugging his own body and his new wings protectively wrapped around him.
Namjoon kneels down, patting him on his shoulder.
Immediately a face with sharp fangs lunges towards him, just barely missing his face.
That sneaky bastard... Namjoon growls. "You forgot who the superior is."
"I could care less!" Hoseok hisses out, baring his fangs and trying to claw at Namjoon's chest.
Namjoon takes his pride and throws it out of the window, launching himself off the floor and escaping into the city.
Hoseok, being overcome by his predator and hostile instincts, immediately follows him, incredibly close on Namjoon's tail.
His mouth waters at only the thought of his flesh.
Namjoon feels a hand grab his ankle, and instinct pushes within him.
He lets out a loud growl, using one of his wings to threaten Hoseok away. But the newly turned isn't at all threatened. He only smirks and latches on tighter, baring his fangs as he's about to sink them into Namjoon's skin.
Namjoon quickly forces his wings to fly himself further, but Hoseok doesn't let go. Not even when he makes the weirdest of shapes.
Hoseok smirks and pulls at Namjoon's ankle, the scientist turning against his will.
Just as Namjoon is turning his head to growl at the newly turned, he hits the side of a building, his wing pulled and hurt.
A shot of a electric pain courses through him, making him roar out in pain as Hoseok pulls him up, pinning him against the wall with a smirk.
"Well, well, well..." Hoseok purrs amused. "Now who's the better hunter."
Namjoon only growls at him, baring his own sharp teeth. "Wouldn't you rather hurt that cheater of yours."
Hoseok pretends to think it over, but smirks and bares his teeth. "I think I'm better off eating you."
Namjoon barely manages to avoid Hoseok's first attack, feeling a set of sharp blades scrape his cheek.
The feeling stings, but the smell of his own blood sets the predator in him on the front. His muscles throb, forcing against Hoseok's grip, causing Hoseok to nearly grab a bite at Namjoon's throat.
But Namjoon pushes back. He moves his head just in time, their fangs clashing together in a painful hit, but not giving up on biting each other's cheeks out.
Namjoon's lips press harshly against those of Hoseok's, trying to win the upper hand as he flaps his wings desperately to get his sleeping muscle to awake.
Hoseok whines and growls, not being able to keep up with Namjoon's harsh movement.
Within the instinct of his predator is a small voice. A tiny voice who begs him to stop and give up.
And in the shame of his defeat, Hoseok slowly closes his eyes and closes his mouth, accepting his defeat.
Filled with pride, Namjoon purrs, marking his nails into Hoseok's shoulders.
"Mine." Namjoon growls. "I've shown you that I am better."
Hoseok nods shamefully, looking away as Namjoon finally feels his wing awaken.
"Go back and clean up your mess. I have to do something."
Glaring as the scientist flies away, Hoseok huffs and growls before going back to the laboratory, doing as he's told.
Namjoon is slowly coming back to his senses, yet he is still sure of what he is doing. He knows the person. He knows Hoseok.
He knows exactly what was going on.
Years ago, maybe two or three, Namjoon stayed at a hotel for two nights, on his commander's check because he insisted that Namjoon needed a vacation.
Namjoon was about to go to the reception to get a request to reduce his stay because he itched to go back to work, when he just so happened to overhear a loud conversation.
A conversation that didn't end well.
Namjoon only recognized Hoseok when he said he worked at cleaning. Than a bright face popped up.
This Hoseok was dark and filled with sad experiences that Namjoon wants gone.
Hoseok is his now. His toy. His servant. He belongs to Namjoon.
And Namjoon can feel hatred boiling within him at the thought of the man who betrayed him. It's gnawing at his throat and his fangs to rip him to pieces.
But no.
Hoseok has to do that.
He knows exactly where to go. And he takes advantage of his ability to fly, bursting through the window and shattering it.
The man he's looking for shoots up from the bed, tired, whining, and uninterested.
Next to him lays a women, only pissing Namjoon off more.
Without a word, Namjoon grabs the man's arm and drags him with him, hanging him by one hand during the entire flight that he is screaming to be put down.
But Namjoon only gives him a smirk.
Hoseok huffs, done cleaning the black liquid and the glass pieces, when he notices a familiar set of black wings nearing the open window.
Hoseok's heart pounds in his chest, the voice in his head telling him nervous things as he starts to get fiddly.
He messes with his wings and fangs, growling and hissing at nothing.
Gasping, Hoseok watches as Namjoon drops the human in his arms to the floor, having no mercy as he falls on his shoulder.
"You-! What was that for--"
"Yoongi..." Hoseok growls angrily, hatred and fury boiling inside of him. He bares his fangs and readies his claws, his anger being more than fury...
He's absolutely livid.
The man gasps at the sight of his ex and begins to crawl back, but he doesn't get a word to speak before Hoseok lunges at him, wings spread and claws sinking into his skin.
Hoseok gladly rips the head apart from the body and proceeds to gnaw on the flesh, moaning in satisfaction as the pink meat is still alive on his tongue.
Namjoon growls at him, Hoseok glaring at his superior.
But Namjoon only smirks at the hostile monster and kneels down beside him, tearing a piece of flesh from Yoongi's stomach.
With a light kiss to the scientist's lips, Hoseok purrs a "thank you," and proceeds to eat.
Namjoon only chuckles, knowing that the both of them will have a good time, and probably also a lot more fights.
But this time, Namjoon knows he has the upper hand. And even though Hoseok knows he is the lower one, he can't help but feel proud of finding someone who likes him like this.
This new confidence found in him, this predator hostility that both of them can't wait to unleash. This need for flesh that they can feel gnawing at their throats.
It's clear that they are far from cutting connections.
And only one kid was traumatized from seeing the fight. He's in therapy now.
