Chapter 14(Gambling with the gods)
The Demigods were all squished together into one cell since the Avenger's Tower didn't have that many cells and the others were occupied with dangerous villains. It seems the Avengers still weren't that worried about a bunch of kids. They should really learn from past mistakes.
"Percy," Annabeth said.
"What's up, Wise Girl? Besides a Drama Queen of course."
She rolled her eyes as thunder rumbled in the distance, "Do you have Riptide?"
I nodded. It had been confiscated when the Avengers searched us but of course it had appeared in my pocket a little while later. Good old Riptide.
"Good," she said, "we may need that later to break these cuffs. But first we need to decide what to do."
"Can't we just wipe their memories?" Clarisse asked.
Annabeth shook her head, "Even if we wipe their memories there are probably files and documents on us and we can't possibility destroy them all there's too much of a chance we'll miss one."
"So, what should we do?" Asked Piper. Before they could discuss further a voice spoke through the speaker in the room.
"Perseus Jackson approach the door. You will be taken to questioning."
"Again! Seriously?! You've already questioned me! Twice!" I said holding up three fingers. '"You can question us all together." I said stubbornly. Trying and failing to cross my arms because of the stupid cuffs.
"That would allow you to share answers." Said the disembodied voice. It was probably a ghost or an eidolon. With my luck, who knows.
"What?" Frank questioned his face scrunched in confusion.
"What they mean is if we decide to lie we can come up with a lie together. If they question us one at a time we'll have no way of knowing what the others say so they can see if our answers match up." Annabeth clarified.
"Ugghhh, fine!" is said approaching the door which opened when I got close. Black widow was there waiting she escorted me to the interrogation room again. "Seriously! Here again!"
"What are you." Widow said getting right down to the topic at hand.
"Uhhhh.... Well, you see, I'm a seventeen year old boy, who is completely innocent and.." I got cut off by Widow slamming her hand onto the table. "OK," I said holding my hands up, "Anger management issues. Ok, deeps breaths, in and out, Hey I know a lot of people with anger issues and they say it helps to let your anger out on a punching bag or something, maybe that would help."
"What. Are. You." She practically growled.
"I feel that is not a first meeting kind of question. Maybe when we get to know each other better."
"I will separate each of your friends. Locking them up in cells in different parts of the country. You will never see them again. You are criminals who deserve to be locked up and we will figure out what you are one way or another."
I felt my anger rising. "Look lady," I was glaring at her too now, "first of all we are NOT criminals! No matter what information you have. It's probably wrong cause the Fates hate me. Second of all, all those supposed terrorist stuff was because we were being attacked and had to defend ourselves." I was scowling at her and could feel the pipes in the walls rumbling. So much for their power blocker cuff thingamabobs.
"What was attacking you?"
Di-immortals! I mentally cursed. "Nothing."
"You just said something was attacking you!"
"No I didn't. You should get hearing aids." She glared at me.
"Is something hunting you and your friends down?" Widow asked. If what he was saying was true then the teens were probably innocent. She had seen a lot of enhanced put on trial because they were defending themselves. If the same was true for these kids it would be better to help them than imprison them, but first she had to find out who was after them.
"Look, lady, I can't say anything."
"We can protect you from however is after you."
I laughed ruefully, "as if"
"Just answer the question."
"Look, even if I wanted to I couldn't. I would die and I would be putting my friends in danger."
"We can keep you safe."
"I seriously doubt that. Look, let me talk to my friends first." She glared at me but seemed to be considering, "look, if I answer your question it will put all of us in danger. I am not going to do that without asking them first."
She nodded slowly. "Fifteen minutes." She said leading me back to the cell.
"What happened?" Annabeth said as soon as the door closed behind me.
"They want to know what we are and who's after us."
"WHAT!!!!"
"Are you crazy!"
"He's already proven that!"
"Zeus would smite us all!"
"DO you WANT to die!"
And other similar answers came from several of the demigods.
"I said I'd have to talk to you guys first." I continued pretending I hadn't heard them. "What should we do?" I asked turning towards Annabeth.
"Well, if we get them to believe us then we'll be free to go and they won't cause problems later on. But also the gods might smite us."
"Could we Iris Message them?" asked Hazel. Annabeth nodded turning towards the sink in the corner. She pulled the curtain around the bathroom area and turned the sink on as hot as it would go. Steam rose from the water and Annabeth flipped in a drachma she'd been able to hide.
"Oh, Iris goddess of the rainbow, please show us Olympus." The throne room appeared in the mist only Athena and Apollo were there. "Can you call in the rest of the gods, it's urgent." Athena nodded knowing that her daughter wouldn't ask that unless it was serious. Soon the rest of the gods appeared in the throne room.
"This better be serious."
"Why did I have to come?"
"Stupid campers always interrupting my pinochle game."
"What's the problem?" Athena asked ignoring the other gods.
"We are currently captured by the Avengers. We could escape but they are already wondering what we are."
"We'll just mind wipe them." said Apollo.
"They probably already have files" said Athena.
Annabeth nodded, "That's what we suspect." The gods seemed to be holding a mental conversation among themselves.
"You may tell the Avengers if the swear on the River Styx not to tell anyone." Zeus finally said. The image disappeared. Annabeth returned to the others.
"They say to tell the Avengers." There were mixed reactions from the other demigods mostly some of confusion with some of apprehension. What if the Avengers decided that they weren't safe and tried to kill them and destroy the camps? Would they even believe them?
Before they could discuss further the disembodied voice spoke again. "Time's up. Perseus please approach the door."
Annabeth spoke up before I could, "Actually, we would all like to be present when explaining ourselves to the Avengers. We would also like for all the Avengers to be present. We insist on a truce between the two parties. There will be no fighting while we are explaining ourselves."
There was silence for a couple minutes while we all waited patiently, not really, but what do you expect with a bunch of ADHD demigods. "Alright." The voice finally said. The door opened and some guards escorted us to a larger room with couches. The Avengers were standing on one side of the room so we sat down on the couches opposite of them some of us sitting on the floor. The Avengers then sat down opposite us. There was Natasha, Steve, Bruce, Clint, Tony, and Thor who was grinning widely. Annabeth motioned to her cuffs. Nat narrowed her eyes and then pressed a button on a remote causing the cuffs to fall away.
"Finally," Leo said, "those were getting annoying."
"Agreed." Said Piper.
"Ha! You agreed with me!"
"Shut up Repair Boy!"
"Ooohh, is Beauty Queen angry?"
"I will destroy you!"
"Guys!" Annabeth said silencing them. They grumbled but quieted down.
"Please start explaining." Steve said trying to ignore what had just happened. Clint was just staring at the two with a raised eyebrow while Bruce just seemed confused as to why he had to be there. Tony was looking bored and Nat was, well, Nat was just glaring at them. And we can all guess what Thor was probably doing. He had a huge smile on his face and was attempting to stop himself from asking for autographs.
"First you all have to swear not to tell anyone what we are about to tell you. You must swear on the River Styx which is binding and breaking such an oath will end in worse than death for you."
The Avengers all swore some of them more reluctantly than others and some cough**tony**cough did so rolling their eyes not believing that the oath could be so binding. As the finished speaking thunder rumbled outside.
"So," Annabeth started, "as you know the Norse gods are real." She said gesturing at Thor. "Well there are also more pantheons then just the Norse."
"Explain." Nat said.
"I was going to," Annabeth said glaring at Nat. "As I was saying the Norse gods aren't the only ones out there. There are also the Greek gods as well as several others. We belong in the Greek and Roman category."
"You're gods?" Tony asked.
"No, we're demigods." I answered.
"Which means what?" Clint asked.
"Half gods" Bruce said with an intrigued look on his face.
"Correct," Annabeth said. "We're have god and half human."
"Yeah right," Clint said.
"Think about it Clint. If the Norse gods are real then it's very likely that other gods exist and very possible that like in the myths they have kids with humans." Nat said.
"Prove it." Tony said.
I raised my eyebrow looking at the others, "Introductions?" I asked them, they nodded. "Okay, I'll start. Percy Jackson son of Poseidon god of the sea."
"Annabeth Chase daughter of Athena goddess of wisdom"
"Leo Valdez son of Hephaestus god of the forge and blacksmiths"
"Clarisse La Rue daughter of Ares god of war"
"Piper Mclean daughter of Aphrodite goddess of love"
"Jason Grace son of Jupiter Roman god of the sky"
"Thalia Grace daughter of Zeus god of the sky and hunter of Artemis"
"Hazel Levesque daughter of Pluto Roman god of the underworld"
"Frank Zhang son of Mars Roman god of war"
"So there are also Roman gods?" Steve asked.
"Yes, but it's more like the Greek and Roman gods are the same just slightly different versions of each other." Annabeth explained.
"And you are mighty heroes! Defeaters of Kronos and Gaea and many monsters! Legends on Asgard!" Thor said jumping up.
"What is he talking about?" Asked Clint.
"You couldn't possibly be heroes." Tony said, "you're just kids."
I narrowed my eyes at him as did the rest of the demigods. He flinched back and I toned down my wolf glare.
"Who's after you." Nat said getting back to the original question from one of my many lovely **cough*not really*cough** interrogations.
"Well the Greek gods exist and so do all the monsters from the myths" Annabeth started.
"Mortals can't see them because of the mist. Which is a kind of magic that blocks mythical things from mortals and makes them see something more explainable." Hazel cut in.
"That's why it looks like we're terrorists. When we're fighting monsters it can look like we're endangering people." I answered so they would finally stop calling me a terrorist.
"So we, demigods, fight the monsters and other evil Greek creatures that would like to destroy the world." Annabeth finished.
"So you protect the world?" Steve asked.
"Yes. It's sort of like you protect the earth from more physical threats, Doctor Strange and the wizards protect the earth from magical threats, and the demigods protect the earth from mythical threats." Annabeth said.
"So what kind of things have you done?" Natasha asked.
"A lot of things that would take several books to explain. Basically there are a lot of us and we train so we can defend ourselves from monsters who have an inbuilt tracking device that leads them to demigods. We have gone on several quest almost dying several times. And we all know people who have died in battle." Annabeth answered. The demigods looked at each other remembering our fallen comrades. Nat looked like she was about to say something but Tony interrupted like always.
"So is that why you have powers?" Tony asked.
"Yes." Piper said.
"Now," Annabeth said clapping her hands together, "we should probably go before we attract an army of monsters."
I snickered. "Yay, you wouldn't want an army of hellhounds to break down your tower." Nat looked at me funny and Tony just rolled his eyes. It looked like he still didn't quite believe us. Well if we continued to meet he'd be forced to. Seeing as being around demigods a lot can make some mortals clearsighted.
"You can go for now but we would like more information. How can we contact you?" Steve said.
"Well we can't use phones because the electric waves or what not would call in all the monsters to our location. Or something like that. Right Annabeth?" I said.
She rolled her eyes ignoring me. "Leo? Do you have anything that could help?" Annabeth said.
"Ya, but it's in my tool belt. It like a signal flare or a pager. There are two devices. When one of the two presses the button on it the other one flashes letting the other holder know the first person wants to contact them. So if we give one to the Avengers they can press the button when they would like us to come back to talk to them more. We also should probably talk to the gods again and see what they suggest we should do. It's be a lot easier if Athena could just input the information into their heads."
"What is talking about?" Tony asked.
"Don't worry," Clint said patting Tony's shoulder, "it's not like they can mess up your brain any more than it already is."
"Great." Steve said before the two could start fighting. Tony was glaring at Clint who was smirking.
The Avengers led us to a room where they returned our weapons and Leo gave them the device then we returned to camp to talk to the other demigods and Chiron and to communicate more with the gods.
Ugghhh, and the week's barely started. Stupid demigod luck.
There you go. Another chapter.
