Chapter 16
The boy sat on the cold, concrete floor. He unwrapped the bandages around his arm, and inspected the wound. He was told that it wasn't infected, but it felt like it was. He'd have to have them reinspect it when he was allowed out of his cell.
He wrapped it back up as he looked around the room. The cot he slept on was messy because he hadn't made it yet, and it smelled like shit because it hadn't been cleaned before, at least, that is what he hoped was the case.
He stood up and moaned. If only he could stretch out his wings. He arched his back in an attempt to allow them out, but he still couldn't. Sighing, he walked over to the bars and looked at the other cells. They were all full of other beings, but he didn't know any of them. The boy sighed before looking at the wall. Tally marks were etched into it; by him and people who had been in here before him. The first guy's name was apparently Marco, as he'd written his name above his tallies. He'd been here for over three years. The second guy's name was Lyon, and he'd been here for about a month. And then there was the boy, Nico. He traced his name that he'd etched into the wall and then moved his fingers down to the tallies.
There were over three hundred in all, and there would be a lot more to come. Nico did not understand why he'd been thrown in jail, but he suspected it had something to do with his wings.
Most Angel's wings are white. They look as if cotton balls had been placed together and they were softer than the softest fabrics humans made. However, certain Angels are born with color differentiation and sometimes texture differentiation, causing them to be immediately thought less of. Some Angel's wings change over the course of their life, and they are looked down on as well, saying they have done too many sins and that they should be punished. It was all just genetic though, and it wasn't a good genetic either.
Nico had black wings. He was born with them. His older brother had white wings the last time he'd seen him, and that had been over two years. His mother and father had white wings, so Nico was technically the black sheep of the family.
He sighed as he turned to look outside again. He wished that he could be freed from prison, he'd done nothing wrong except be born with different wings. They were still soft, yet not as soft as usual.
He was about to go lay down when a guard walked over. "Nico, you have a visitor. They are going to bail you out, but they want to speak with you first."
Nico bit his lip, wondering who it could be. He straightened up, trying not to show how excited he was. He followed the guard as he led him to the visiting area. When he got into there, he saw his brother's familiar face, and a girl sitting next to him. His brother got up and ran to hug him.
Nico wrapped his arms around his brother, and watched the girl stand up. She gave him a shy smile, and then bowed. She didn't seem comfortable being here, and Nico let go of his brother before he was led over to sit next to her.
"It is so great to see you, brother." Nico said.
His brother gave him a toothy grin, yet sadness lingered in his eyes. Nico could see his brother had been crying. He had no idea why though. "Were you crying?"
"Yes, but we will explain why later." his brother said, motioning to the girl.
Nico turned towards the girl and held out his hand. "Hello, my name is Nico."
The girl gave him a shy smile. "Andrea Marks." She said, not taking his hand.
Nico dropped it to his side, feeling a tad bit awkward. He turned back towards his brother, who was looking at her lovingly.
His brother stood up. "Time to go." he said, getting up.
Andrea grabbed his brother's hand. "Mitchel, wait."
Mitchel whipped around. "Yes, Andrea?"
"How are we gonna..."
"Same way we got here." he said.
Andrea's face paled, but she let go of his hand and then looked towards Nico, inviting him to go first. Nico smiled at her before following his brother. Andrea didn't seem like an Angel, so Nico was immediately curious. When they got to the exit, Mitchel's wings spread out. They were a dark gray, which caused Nico to get confused. Had they changed that quickly?
Mitchel looked at Nico, who let his black wings out. He tested them out, hovering above the ground. Mitchel smiled at him before wrapping his arms around her waist. Nico raised an eyebrow at him, but Mitchel gave him a warning glare, clearly telling him to keep quiet. Nico nodded as he watch Mitchel flap his wings.
He lifted high into the air, and Nico watched Andrea whirl around as she tightly squeezed his torso. Nico flew up to join them, and they made their way to wherever Mitchel was headed.
Soon, Mitchel landed gently in front of a rock. Andrea whimpered, and then glared at him. "Next time, don't take me with you." she said sticking out her bottom lip. Mitchel gave out a hearty laugh before motioning towards the rock.
Nico raised an eyebrow, but Andrea seemed to know what to do. She walked towards the rock and then pushed on it. It opened up, revealing a darker tunnel. Andrea walked inside, leaving Mitchel and Nico outside.
Nico turned towards his brother. "Who and what is she?" he asked, annoyance dominating his tone.
Mitchel sighed. "She is a human girl that I know from high school."
"And you showed her the Angel world?"
"She is no ordinary human, brother."
"Oh? What other kind of human is there?"
Mitchel sighed and then turned towards him. Nico then realized where they were. "Oh, no. They are a dangerous breed, you should not mess with them!"
"She is to defeat the Demon King, and besides, she is my friend."
"Seems more like a Friend with Benefits."
Mitchel gave him an angry glare. "She is not like that, I doubt she even returns the same feelings I have for her."
"You-you-you like her!" Nico said, angrily whispering the last part.
Mitchel bit his lip. "Yes?" He finally said, trying to sound as if nothing was wrong.
Nico struggled to find words, but he managed to make grunting noises, though no words formed. He sighed, rubbing his temples. "Okay...let us assume for a second she does return those feelings...then what?"
"Well, I'd like to be with her."
"What if that works out and you end up being together forever?"
"Then, I'd hope to settle down and have a family."
"There is the problem! A human and an Angel together. Do you not see where this could go wrong?"
"I know, it could be bad for any future kids if it does work out, but she is a strong woman. She can keep the angered Supernaturals away."
Nico sighed. "Fine, let's just go inside, okay?"
Mitchel nodded, heading inside. Nico sighed and then looked at the ground. It wouldn't just be unsafe for the future children, it'd be unsafe mainly for Andrea. Nico looked back up, thinking about how this will end badly.

Hey yo! Hope you like this chapter. I was struggling to think of what to do for the next chapter, and I knew that I had a character idea for Nico, but nothing else, so I added him in as the brother.
Any who, hope you enjoyed it!
