Interview with @therunningreader
Hello, everyone! Today, we have another mythical and amazing author, therunningreader, whose story achieved 2nd place in the Immortal Living Mortal contest on MythandLegend.
About the Author:
About 'The Fall of a god': "What does a God cast down to earth for refusing to allow his powers to lessen to reset the balance do? Will he learn from his actions or seek revenge?"
1. What made you start writing on Wattpad? What has been your favorite moment so far on the orange app?
Reading has always been my passion, and I've had plenty of ideas for books throughout the years. Unfortunately, my dyslexia and English as a second language have prevented me from writing these stories down on paper. In spite of this, I have not given up and I am proud of what I am able to write. My favorite experience with Wattpad was following a writer whose books were eventually published - while it was sad to see them unavailable on Wattpad, it made me smile when I saw them in bookstores.
2. Which mythology and/or legends influenced your story? Why did you choose those?
For my writing, there wasn't one specific myth that inspired it. Instead, I drew from a mix of many different mythological stories and beliefs. In my free time, I've studied a variety of myths from around the world, including Egyptian gods and goddesses, Greek gods, Norse, African, Celtic druidism, and many more. Learning about their history and for some of them their religion has been a hobby of mine.
3. Tell us about the main character of one of your stories. What inspired their creation?
The protagonist of the story was born from the concept of Mythandlegends "What if a deity lost their power"? As is common in mythology, gods can be prideful. So, what if the other gods stripped this god of his power? How would it happen? What would happen next? This was the idea for the for the main character.
4. What were some challenges you experienced while writing the story?
My biggest issue with this story was the fact that I had written the beginning and middle but didn't have an ending to it. Then out of the blue, it just popped into my head. "What if this is all a bedtime story to his kids" With being limited to 3000 words I was not able to put in a lot of details that I would like but having it end as a bedtime story would be perfect.
5. Do you have a song playlist for writing? Can you share one with us?
I don't have a playlist, I just zone out and write.
6. What is your favorite myth or legend? Why?
Thor's stolen hammer is my favorite myth being that it tells what the Norse gods were really like not what you see in the movies. One thing they got right is that Thor loves drinking and fighting.
7. What is your favorite mythical creature? Why?
The Dragon is my favorite mythological creature, Why you ask? Because it's a dragon.
8. If you could have the same powers as a creature and/or deity from mythology or legends, what would it be? Why?
Chronos the titian of time. The reason being I would then have all the time in the world to read and write.
9. What is your advice for other writers who want to use mythology in their stories?
Do not give up your writing; it's as easy as that. I've been attempting to write since I was around fourteen years old, and while it is painful to look back at what I wrote then, due to its quality, the idea behind the story still exists, and that is all that matters.
