Hello, everyone! Today we have another mythical and amazing author, Kim_Knights, sharing her story and discussing her work with us which has been featured on Wattpad's homepage and reached #1 in the romance and historical fiction tags.

About the Author: Kim is a daydreamer who crunches numbers during the day and turns into an aspiring writer at night. She first started out on Wattpad as a reader before introducing her first story in 2019. Ever since then, she has not stopped her diverse story-telling. She enjoys diving into fantasy-romance worlds, watching her favourite K-dramas and spending quality time with her family and friends.

About 'His Demoness': When Xu Zhijian becomes a full-fledged demon slayer, he is given a talisman to summon his familiar. When he ends up calling forth the sleeping 'Demoness' instead, he finds himself bound to her without a choice. However, days go by and he begins to discover that she isn't like how the rumours describe her to be. Together, the pair go on missions to vanquish evil and attempt to discover their destiny together. But the question remains on who will win this battle - the demons or their undying love for each other?

Kim's most popular story is 'The Crown Prince's Bodyguard', which tells about a fantasy tale where a prince encounters a human guardian during his campaign to retrieve a legendary healing flower for his ill-stricken mother. However, he has mistaken her for a boy and employs her to be his bodyguard instead. The story continues on as they meet several undead creatures, a witch and a deity that are all inspired by Chinese mythology. 

Kim is also currently working on a new story called, 'The Invasion', which is centered around a dystopian world full of sea creatures who have mutated through marine pollution and began hunting humans. The story unfolds as Delia, the main protagonist who is a half-merfolk, encounters her kind for the very first time. Together, they search for a way to survive and fight against the monsters.

1. What made you start writing on Wattpad? What has been your favorite moment so far on the orange app?

I started out as a reader on Wattpad because I love discovering amazing stories that take me out on wild journeys! But the more I read, the more ideas started appearing in my head. And that was when I realized that I could try to put it down into words instead. And ta-da – I eventually did it! Today, I've written a wide range of stories on Wattpad, but mainly fantasy and romance!

What's my favorite moment on the orange app? There are many of such moments, and one of it is interacting with my readers! I've received many sweet comments and I'm extremely thankful for that!

2. Which mythology and/or legends influenced your story? Why did you choose those?

The Red Thread of Fate! It is a legend that originates from Chinese mythology. It is commonly believed that there is an invisible red string attached to a person's finger or ankle (depending on which version of the story you're looking at) to another. These two connected people would be soulmates that transverse lifetimes.

I've always loved reading stories about soulmates, which prompted me to adopt this legend and write such a story myself – His Demoness! It depicts a story of hardships and how enemies can turn out to be lovers.

3. Tell us about the main character of one of your stories. What inspired their creation?

Since I was young, I have struggled with speaking in front of groups. The character, Hwang Eun-bi, from Maybe It's You was created as a self-reminder to myself that I should not fear letting my voice and opinions be heard by others.

4. What were some challenges you experienced while writing the story?

His Demoness is a story that revolves around a fantasy world with demons roaming freely and demon slayers who were sent on missions to exterminate such creatures. Such a plot involves a lot of fight scenes and I would struggle at times to find a way to depict such scenes.

Moreover, the main female character in the story had a disability – being a mute. I had to express her thoughts and feelings more vividly through her actions instead of dialogues, while hoping that my readers could understand her through my words.

5. Do you have a song playlist for writing? Can you share one with us?

When I'm writing a sad story, I'll listen to ballad songs. When I'm writing a fun story, I'll listen to songs that come with a happy vibe. But right now, my song playlist changes frequently and is extremely diverse. I would love to share someday, but right now, it is extremely disorganized. Sorry about that!

6. What is your favorite myth or legend? Why?

Merpeople! I find it really intriguing at how they are able to manipulate water and live in such a vast, underwater world!

I'm currently writing a story with merpeople – which is called The Invasion!

7. What is your favorite mythical creature? Why?

Pegasus! It is a white horse with wings. I think they are extremely majestic and graceful beasts. The fact that they can run and fly is so cool!

8. If you could have the same powers as a creature and/or deity from mythology or legends, what would it be? Why?

Magic! I would love to have a wand like one of those characters in the Harry Potter series and do incredible magic everyday! It doesn't even matter if I would be a Muggle-born. Just get me that wand!

9. What is your advice other writers who want to use mythology in their story?

Do some exploration and research on the mythology to get a deeper understanding of the topic! Start crafting your story and allow your mind to flow in whichever direction you want, but also keep in mind to be respectful to the culture you're writing about. Of course, do not stress about it too much and let yourself be intimidated by the whole process. You never know how you might surprise yourself with your own story-telling!

As a writer, you will eventually realize that your stories might not suit everybody's palate. And that's completely okay. At the end of the day, keep telling yourself that you're writing for yourself, and remember to always have fun while doing so!
