New Years Resolution

So, after Christmas, and the snowed-in incident, I found myself quickly searching for a way to get out of Resolutions for my New Year, on my new street. I'm not a fan of new years or of the resolutions and traditions. One especially, of the New Years Midnight Kiss. That one just gives me shivers, and not the good kind. Diego went running around the house, barking at anything and everything he could. Digging in things, as if he was looking for something. Quickly my mind snapped back and remembered a list from when I was a teenager and I got up from my place on the couch, quickly chasing him around the house to try and stop him.

"DIEGO NO!" I shout and tackle with full force, "THAT LIST IS STAYING HIDEN FOR A REASON!" My force with Diego didn't last long as I was forced to my back and he bolted into the spare bedroom, which I used for my potions! "DIEGO N-" Before I even finished speaking a large crash was heard and there was a low crying sound following it. I knew right away that a section of my miscellaneous potions had fallen onto Diego, and the reaction. I was worried to see.

"KYA! WE KNOW YOU'RE HOME!" I heard Garroth scream from downstairs. Laurance was next to scream but I just ignored them as I slowly stood up and turned the corner in equal slowness. Watching as to what I would see. Hoping it wasn't what I thought it was. Greatly, and terribly, I was wrong about both. I had thought it would've been the final cry to the friend I loved since childhood, but instead, it was only but another child, laying across the floor. Halfway hidden under boxes. From what I could make the brown fur he use to have became a mess of brown hair, with little light brown tips. His skin was a tanned white and he appeared to be dressed in an old hoodie that I had as a child. My first reaction, scream. Let's just say that was my only reaction at that time, as the room fell onto its side and faint screams got louder. I could watch all of the world racing around me though, as my eyes, unlike my ears, never shut.

I saw Garroth and Laurance turn the corner from the stairs. Garroth dropped to my side. Laurance dropped, to who I could only believe was Diego's side. Garroth scoped me up in his arms. He turned back to Laurance and I saw the boy in his arms. Much clearer. He wore, not my old hoodie, but a friend's old sweatshirt. He also wore a pair of loose blue jeans and no shoes. As Garroth stood there, possibly because him and Laurance were shouting at each other. I watched the little boy shift around in Laurance's arms. His eyes began to force open as Garroth turned and ran me to my room. Laurance and that boy never showed up. Though, for a moment, I felt as if, I was being shaken on my bed. By something. But I couldn't see what. My body refused to move.

All my focus came to when I felt tears drop onto my arm. I shot up like a rocket and the first thing I saw, I pulled my arms around. Out of instinct only. I look down and see deep brown eyes staring into my own. I shake my head and look up to see Garroth and Laurance staring at myself and the little boy who now was crying into my shirt.

"It's Diego," I mouthed to them, "Potions." They looked slightly dumbfounded but nodded at my explanation. I couldn't believe that Diego was human. I began to feel a dumbfounded expression reach my face as he looked up to me.

"I-I'm scared..." He cries softly, "What happened?" I pick him up and set him on my bed, seeing the small Pup like ears coming from his brown hair and the tail coming from just under the sweatshirt.

"It's okay. It's okay," I tell him, "We'll find a way to fix this."

"WE'LL?!" Garroth and Laurance shout in unison. Laurance begins his runoff that they had nothing to do with it, Garroth doing the same, both of them frantically explaining different versions. I see in the corner of my eye that Diego's ears have flopped down and he's holding them to his head.

"ENOUGH!!!" I shout at the top of my lungs, "I meant I will. You two will be watching him at your house. I have to figure out what potions hit him. Luckily the name tags didn't vanish with the bottles."

"O-Oh," Laurance said calming himself down, "That's fine. We know someone who might know something about potions."

"I know enough about them. These are mine. I'll do it myself," I say with a forceful tone. I turn away and look back down at Diego. Setting myself on one of my knees and getting down to his level. "Diego... is that okay? You'll go with these guys so I can figure this out?" Diego gives me a shaking nod as Garroth walks over to us. Somehow I can sense a kind smile coming off him and forming towards Diego.

Diego smiles back.

"C'mon then Buddy," Laurance says as Garroth picks Diego up and they start on their leave, "Oh yeah, Kya. We're having this big New Years Eve party tonight. You're allowed to bring a plus one. If you're interested, just stop by whenever."

"I'll try my best guys. I'll try to get Diego before then..." I say and turn to head to my closet, which is filled with... many books. I mumble a thanks under my breath and begin scanning the shelves. Coming quickly across Grimm's Fairy Tales I pull it down and look around in my room. I remove the sleeve off the book and stare at what it really is. A potion book, written years ago, on even the most forbidden potions.

New Years Resolution 1-Get rid of this book

Flipping through the pages I see each scratched with old writing. Writing that if anyone in my family saw, I probably would've died. All the way towards the back was this page on human-werewolf transformation. Though I already knew everything I needed on the matter of it, I didn't know potions for it. I never had to use them on myself and wouldn't use them on anyone else. Especially since it was a kind of, forbidden situation.

"What are you doing?" I hear someone say from behind me and almost jump out of my skin. I turn to see a man I feared too much in these situations. Grand Wizard Avery. Taller than me by at least half a foot, with bright yellow hair and bright green eyes. Draped over his shoulders was a black hoodie, underneath was a white and yellow dress shirt. All tied together with black pants and black dress shoes.

"AVERY!" I stretched out nervously, "How have you been?" Quickly I slammed the book shut and look at him with an almost guilty expression.

"Don't play dumb with me Kya," He gave off a slightly worried expression as my nervous face dropped to a sad one, "Or should I say Delta?" I didn't speak. I didn't look at him. All I know is to this point, my ears and tail were out, because, I could feel my tail drooping. "You made a deal with us when we set you free from his grasp. You can't go against it." Still, I stayed quiet, feeling my ears dropping as if to mimic my tail. "I'm only reminding you this so that you won't get put back there. We've been friends for a long time. Longer than I have been with most mortals. Just, remember the deal."

"Then help me," I finally speak up.

"Pardon?" He asked confused by my words.

"A combination of potions fell onto Diego, and as a result, he was turned into a human child. I know I have until midnight to fix this, but I'm even more pressed because I have New Year Plans tonight as well. So," I turned myself around and shut the book, picking it up slowly and holding it between Avery and I. "I will give you this book, IF, you help me change him back, and give me one potion, in case I ever need to get out of trouble with the GF, or with... him again." Now it's was Avery's turn to stay silent. Out of all mortals, I knew I was his favorite, he always liked me. For reasons unknown to me. Maybe because I was trying to be a witch, or because I was also a creature of different potential. No matter the reason, I knew his response. So before he answered, my ears and tail popped up.

"I'm in," He says, and with that, I'm human again.

Night had come swiftly and I found that in the end Avery finished brewing the potion and had me get Diego, and start getting ready for the party. I heard him and Diego talking. Diego stays quiet and Avery doing most of it. When I was finally finished getting ready, I stood in the door and listened to them talking.

"You know she really cares about you," Avery said, his eyes never leaving the potion.

"You know she really cares about you too," Diego said. His eyes never leaving Avery.

"But she's mortal," He adds in.

"And deep inside so are you," Diego fights on. I smile, knowing he got that from me, many years ago, "Deep inside we're all immortal or mortal. And no, it doesn't depend."

"Heh," Avery said, "I'm still lost on this," Avery said taking the potion off the stand and kneeling down to his height and placing a hand on his face, "On why Delta dares to get rid of someone that could be so close to her."

"She doesn't like close. It's scary, not just to her either," Diego said as Avery backed away. He then opened the potion and dumped it on him, and I watched the boy I knew so well change into the dog, and greatest friend I'd always remember.

"Thank you," I finally said and came out from behind the door.

"Thank you," He says back and takes the book from me.

"Will I see you again?" I say, causing him to stop in the doorway.

"You're a Lycan-Dominant, not to mention an Ultima-Dominant Cross Hybrid," He states, "With you, there's always trouble, and so, I'll always be there." With that, he walked out the door, and past that vanished.

"Goodbye, Grand Wizard Avery," I say and set Diego up in his bed. Then, head off to the party, a weight off my shoulders, knowing that the book is finally gone, and that somehow, Avery would be paying me back with that potion. But right now, just that book being gone, I felt like, control wasn't that much farther away.

The party was loud, and full, and all around... fun. I loved the way the guys used their Christmas lights and honestly it was nice to see everyone again. Even if I live on the street, I'm pretty reserved and try to keep to myself. Most of the night I had hung out with Garroth or Laurance, but I was standing near Laurance when he shouted, "Oh no she didn't!" To whatever Garroth said as he chased Aphmau around their house. The whole thing made me crack up, and, going home. I feel like, I don't know. I just feel... something. Something, different. I like it.
